Portsmouth is quite bad, but not as bad as the places listed. The highest teen pregnancy rate in Western Europe, and the most densely populated city in the UK. Also pretty bad for drugs because of the ports, and the people have an island mentality because the city itself is on an island.

yeah moss side/ hulme, longsight, even old trafford and stretford is bad, i went to a school in stretford and the area was quite scummy

Newcastle isn't one of the roughest cities in the UK, and the biggest cities aren't necessarily the roughest.

But yes, anywhere remotely big has unpleasant parts and I'm sure places like Cambridge are no exception.
