Welcome to Edinburgh Napier University
One of the largest higher education institutions in Scotland, Edinburgh Napier University has recently celebrated its 50th Anniversary. Established in 1964 as Napier Technical College, and becoming a University in 1992, the University has been expanding steadily throughout the city and is in the process of investing £100m to provide some of Scotland's best teaching and research facilities.
At present, the University has seven campuses, ranging from the small and intimate to the grand and spectacular. This results in the University having all sorts of resources, all over the city, meaning that you'll get to experience the whole of Edinburgh during your studies.
Courses and fees
The University has recently changed its structure from having three overarching faculties to having six schools, offering more flexibility in its courses and more focused learning. The schools are:
Located at the state-of-the-art Craiglockhart campus, the Business School offers courses and facilities to everyone from school leavers to multinational corporations, with research, consultancy and knowledge transfer services.
School of Art & Creative Facilities
Offering a range of degrees in a vibrant, interdisciplinary environment with industry standard facilities, the School of Art & Creative Facilities' innovative teaching and links to the industry regularly produces award winning graduates.
School of Computing
With constantly evolving courses to match the industry, placements and internships offered and applied research opportunities, the School of Computing offers real world experience along with the rigors of degree based learning to prepare its students fully for the Tech sector.
School of Engineering & the Built Environment
Offering courses in several disciplines, from architecture to quantity surveying, that are tailored to the needs of accrediting bodies and employers, the school also ensures that the courses are flexible enough as to accommodate students needs.
School of Life, Sport & Social Sciences
From training athletes to researching a cure for cancer, the school offers a wide range of courses. The Sports and Exercise science has a strong emphasis on Science, focusing on performance, physical activity and sports coaching. Social Sciences offers courses that can be applied to communities and individuals.
School of Nursing, Midwifery & Social Care
The school offers a range of degrees in a number of healthcare specialties, with extensive placements offered in order to best prepare you for your chosen career. The school also offers advanced postgraduate courses, such as cancer care, neonatal nursing and child protection.
Tuition fees vary between schools and type of course. Fees will also alter depending on whether you are an International student, and there are numerous bursaries and scholarships that you can apply for. Scottish students will not have to pay any tuition fees.

With six campuses around the city, the University is uniquely suited to give students a wide range of experience living in Edinburgh. With various facilities in each campus, you will be travelling around and soaking up the city throughout your studies.
Edinburgh Napier University has three campus libraries on the Merchiston, Craiglockhart and Sighthill campuses. The Merchiston library is even open 24/7 during term time. Each library is full of resources, books, CDs, DVDs, maps and unique special collections as well as providing access to over 9,000 full text e-journals and magazines and 27,000 ebooks which you can download to your tablet or computer. Each library is fully staffed for enquiries, and offers workshops, drop-in sessions and group study rooms in order to help facilitate your studies.
The [EN]GAGE sports center offers several different sporting opportunities at the Craiglockhart, Merchiston and Sighthill campuses, including fully kitted out gym facilities, spin, yoga and pilates classes, and the sports center itself which can be hired for all manner of sports. The Edinburgh Napier Student Union bar, located in the popular Cowgate area of town, comes kitted out with a stage, pool tables, jukeboxes, Sky Sports, retro gaming consoles, arcade machines and a foosball table, and is a perfect place to hang out with and meet your fellow students.
Medical and Welfare Services
Whilst the university doesn't offer any specific GP or dentistry services, there is plenty of choice in Edinburgh. You will have a chance to register with your local GP as part of your induction week.
However, the university does offer a range of mental health resources, including counselling, coaching, hypnotherapy, and the offer to learn relaxation or stress techniques.
All of the university accommodation is self catered and located in the centre of Edinburgh, with good transport links to all campuses. All first year undergraduates are guaranteed accommodation, granted they meet the allocation criteria. For more information, please check the universities website.
