Newman University is a different kind of university; we’re driven by the belief that higher education should enable us to develop new ways of understanding the world, and help make a positive impact within it. Our students become independent thinkers with ambition, empathy, and a lifelong love for learning.
We’re a friendly community of staff and students, and our small class sizes mean that academic staff can give personal care and attention to each student.
Reports frequently highlight the positive experience of students and individual attention offered by Newman’s staff.
Newman was founded in 1968 as a teacher training college and since then has developed to not only have a fantastic reputation for training teachers, having trained over 14,000 teachers to date, but has also expanded our offering to include various subjects within the Faculty of Arts, Society and Professional Studies at both undergraduate and postgraduate level.
Newman’s mission is to make high quality education accessible to all who are able to benefit from it, something which is shown by the introduction of Foundation Year courses to provide a stepping stone to those who may not have thought they were able to go to university.
Newman University consistently produces high levels of graduate employment rates, this is testament to the work placement opportunities students have access to whilst studying their undergraduate degree.
Newman believes in developing the whole person and therefore places equal importance on high academic achievement and personal wellbeing; many Newman students will tell you about the support they received across the University and how it helped them to achieve.
