Aberystwyth University offers an excellent university experience and is consistently ranked amongst the best universities in the UK. We are a Top 3 UK University for Teaching Quality and Student Experience in the 2024 Good University Guide, by The Times and Sunday Times, and we were also placed Top in England and Wales for Student Satisfaction in the 2022 National Student Survey.
We’re committed to delivering outstanding teaching in an environment that is welcoming, supportive and inclusive. Aberystwyth’s teaching quality is consistently ranked amongst the best universities in the UK, and 98% of the University’s research is identified as being of an internationally recognised standard or higher (Research Excellence Framework 2021). This means that our students are taught by leading experts in their fields, within departments at the forefront of emerging research.
Student life at Aberystwyth is second to none. The main University buildings are located on the Penglais campus, within easy walking distance of the University’s accommodation and the town centre. The campus also boasts the largest Arts Centre in Wales, the University’s Sports Centre, the Students’ Union and many food and drink outlets. Our Students’ Union is also home to over 100 Clubs and Societies where students can discover new passions and continue lifelong interests.
Aberystwyth itself is a small, welcoming and friendly student town located on the west coast of Wales. Situated between the mountains and the sea, the surrounding area offers opportunities to explore the great outdoors whilst the town itself is an inclusive and vibrant environment in which to relax and socialise.
In addition to offering outstanding teaching and research:
- We offer a generous package of scholarships and bursaries, and undergraduate students can be eligible for over £18,000 in financial support.
- Student Support is a high priority at Aberystwyth, and we offer the practical, emotional, and financial support necessary for our students to succeed in their studies.
- We guarantee University-managed accommodation to all first-year students in our award-winning halls, voted Best in the UK by WhatUni? Student Choice Awards 2022, and include a free gym membership to the University’s Sports Centre.
- We invest in the future, and our goal is to become carbon neutral by 2030. The University has recently invested £2.9m in a new solar farm with 4,500 solar panels to contribute towards our electricity requirements and reduce our C02 emissions by over 500 tonnes annually.
- Our students have the opportunity to study, volunteer or work in another country, for an academic year, a single semester or even just a few weeks. These experiences provide a real-world dimension to our degree courses and help our students to stand out from the crowd post-graduation. Aberystwyth University also has industry links with leading professionals and organisations across the globe including the BBC, S4C, Jaguar, The European Space Agency and Unilever.
