Facilities

LSBU has invested over £60 million in teaching facilities and labs over the past five years. Each of our Schools offers unique and exciting facilities, designed to improve your learning experience, and ensure you are industry ready.

From film studios to engineering labs, electron microscopes to design workshops and hospital simulations, our teaching provides you with real world, innovative facilities, and equipment.

New for 2022

Our brand new 24 hour LSBU Hub is the newest addition to our Southwark Campus. This beautiful three-story building is home to a new state-of-the-art library and learning resource centre, a range of open-access computer rooms, private study rooms, plus a Digital Skills Centre. It’s the ideal place to study, or just catch up with friends over a coffee at Costa.

Location:

LSBU’s excellent transport links mean we are minutes’ walk to the Underground and a short bus ride from some of the best places in the city, including Covent Garden, Tate Modern and the British Film Institute. Not only that, but we are minutes away from some of the most exciting cultural centres in the city like the South Bank, Borough Market and Bermondsey Street.

LSBU’s Southwark campus is in Elephant & Castle, without a doubt one of the most up-and coming areas in London; there’s so much to see and do within a short walk of the campus. Being here means you’ll have sights, attractions and nightlife on your doorstep.

Learning/Study Facilities:

The Skills for Learning Centre offers students a range of interactive workshops, one-to-one tutorials and drop-in sessions delivered by experienced learning developers.

The Academic Practice and English Language team provide guidance to maximise your reading, writing and thinking and the Maths and Stats team deliver tailored support to refresh and improve your numerical, mathematical or statistical knowledge.

In addition we provide specialist study materials through our online Virtual Learning Environment (VLE) Moodle site.

Libraries on our Southwark and Havering campuses provide LSBU students with access to a wide range of books, journal articles and other specialist materials they will need to complete their studies.

E-resources – including over 18,000 full-text journals – can be accessed off-campus 24 hours a day. A team of experienced, professional staff is on hand to give expert support and provide training.

Student support:

LSBU gives you the support and flexibility you need to succeed. Studying has to be a part of real life – you may need to earn some extra income, or having some trouble settling into your first year.

The Student Life Centre is there to make your experience as easy as possible. Many factors can have an impact on students’ success, which is why we do everything we can to make sure you get the support you need.

The Skills for learning team provides workshops, drop-in sessions and one-to-one appointments to offer development of academic and professional skills.

There is a Student Mental Health and Wellbeing service which can offer short-term support and advice to students, which is free and confidential. You can also get support if you have a disability or dyslexia, with a team on hand to help you to get personalised services and facilities.

Students’ Union:

London South Bank Students’ Union (LSBSU) is a charity, independent from the University, run by students, for students. You’ll become a member for free when you enrol at LSBU.

Make Change

The Students’ Union is here to represent LSBU students. We have over 700 part-time elected representatives, who are the driving force for change at LSBU, empowering students and ensuring their voices are heard. In the past, they have campaigned on issues such as the renovation of the Grads Cafe, keeping the cost of food on campus down and the reopening of the student bar.

Have Fun

Whilst studying is a key part of student life, so is having fun! The Students’ Union puts on weekly and one-off events throughout the year, for students to relax and socialise. From a weekly pub quiz to special club nights, film screenings to mature students’ mixers – there’s something for everyone.

Fees

Full-time undergraduate courses are £9,250 a year for UK/EU students and start from £10,500 a year for international students.

Living here

Our home is in Elephant and Castle. It’s a unique place to be a students. One of our local favourites includes Mercato Metropolitano, an outdoor covered food hall that has everything from an in-house cinema, to craft beer, an urban farm and cooking classes. Looking for something more upbeat? Ministry of Sound is one of our noisiest neighbours, and the bars and clubs of Borough and London Bridge are just down the road. If history is more your scene, the Cinema Museum is a short walk away, as is the Imperial War Museum and its impressive grounds. £3 billion has been invested into Elephant and Castle, including a £20 million new public leisure centre, 1,693 affordable homes and 10,000 jobs, plus training and apprenticeships. LSBU Croydon

Our new campus in the heart of Croydon has been designed to help tackle the shortage of nurses across South London and the South of England, as well as becoming a hub for businesses and entrepreneurs.

Opening in September 2021, the new LSBU campus building will be a vital part of Croydon’s regeneration and it perfectly located in the town centre, minutes away from both East and West Croydon station.

Electric House will include a lecture theatre, classrooms and a café. It will also be home to nursing skills suites that replicate hospital wards, as well dedicated Chiropractic labs. The building will also become a business hub, with shared entrepreneurial space for public and student use.

Academy of Sport:

We offer quality gym facilities, services and programmes to LSBU students, staff and the community. There is a 20+ station Fitness Suite, equipped with SMART Centre Technology for better performance monitoring and progression, as well as a selection of Free Weights including dumbbells from 2.5kg – 50kg and a Multi-Purpose Olympic Rack. The gym also provides therapy services, personal fitness programmes and Personal Training, as well as an extensive Group Exercise Studio Timetable

Facilities

Our Fitness Suite equipped with over 20 cardio and resistance exercise/Free Weight stations equipped with SMART Centre Technology, so you can monitor your personal performance and keep up with your fitness goals. The Academy provides accessible facilities and has 'Registered' status in the Inclusive Fitness Initiative (IFI) programme. We continuously work with the English Federation of Disability Sport (EFDS) to ensure disabled people can enjoy the benefits of physical activity.

Students’ Union:

London South Bank Students’ Union (LSBSU) is a charity, independent of the University, set up for the sole benefit of London South Bank University students.

Societies are the largest extracurricular group at LSBSU, with over 85 active societies for students to get involved in. Societies are groups of students who come together because of a common interest and they might hold events, socials, talks and trips based on what they are interested in. Sport clubs are also run by students for students, they are the ones who get to plan, organise and participate in activities

Student Media is new to LSBSU. They have brand new equipment and loads of opportunities for students to build Student Media and make it their own. From TV and Radio to News, there is something for everyone and they want people from all courses and all walks of life to help create a media outlet that is as diverse as our students.

Questions and answers

What do you look for in your students?

To be offered a place on one of our undergraduate courses, you’ll need to demonstrate that you have the necessary skills to study. Our admissions officers look for evidence of your motivation and commitment, alongside aptitude and potential.

How much of an emphasis do you place on building workplace skills like presenting, project management and people skills?

At LSBU, our courses are applied, accredited, professional – this means we place special emphasis on making our students employable through real-world teaching and embedding core skills across our courses.

What support is available to students who are struggling for any reason? 

At LSBU we provide advice and support for students on a wide range of non-academic and educational needs. Our aim is to enable all students to achieve their potential while studying, by providing an approachable and reliable service that students can trust. Any questions or concerns you may have, the Student Services team are here for you.

What social events do you offer when people first join to help people make friends and settle in?

For new students starting in September, a dedicated programme of welcome and induction events takes place – a perfect opportunity to meet new students and settle into academic life at LSBU.
