Central London location
LSBU is situated on a compact and friendly campus, minutes away from London’s South Bank, with excellent transport links to the rest of the city and the UK. Some nursing courses are also taught at a campus in Havering, Essex.
The main campus is minutes from the entertainment buzz of bars, restaurants and clubs, plus many of the city's world-renowned galleries, theatres, museums and attractions are close by.
LSBU has invested over £50 million in teaching facilities and labs over the past three years. This includes a new Student Centre, which opened in 2012 as a central hub for support and employment information. The new Clarence Centre is home to the university’s Research, Innovation and Enterprise team, student entrepreneurs, business start-ups, and social enterprises and services to the local community.
A new £4 million Media Centre for photography, journalism, film and digital and sound design students is set to open in late 2015. This will include studio and production spaces, post-production suite, radio studio and screening room.
As a strongly vocational university many courses feature practical sessions in fully-equipped laboratories. Students studying health-related courses can develop their skills in simulated ward environments and trainee teachers learn in mock school classrooms.
The Learning and Resources Centre on the main campus has over 600 study spaces at the university for both individual and group learning. IT services for students are provided on all campuses, with over 400 workstations. There are wireless areas for laptops and IT support for students living in halls.
The Academy of Sport which houses a gym and sports centre has recently undergone £1 million of refurbishment, including the development of a new functional training zone.
LSBU’s Employability and Careers Service team can support you in every aspect of your job search. They work with employers and offer vacancies in all industries and at all levels.
The service works in three ways:
- as a drop-in – the advisers in the JobShop are always available to help you take the next step in your search, and there’s no need to book an appointment
- as a JobShop advertising a wide range of part-time, full-time and voluntary positions
- as a careers gym offering group workshops on CVs, interview techniques and finding work experience, as well as regular presentations from employers across a range of sectors.
The Student Union represents and is run for the benefit of students. You can speak to specialist advisers about any matters, including worries about your course or anything else, perhaps not even related to university. The Students’ Union also acts as a socialising space. The Venue bar, open during the week from 12pm to 8pm, regularly becomes a late-night venue with quiz and DJ nights and more. The Union is the focus for a wide range of sports teams and societies that cover cultural, political and social interests.
