Facilities

Ulster University is constantly updating its facilities to ensure students have the best possible learning environment. We have developed our nursing and health sciences facilities with industry standard equipment, a fully functioning podiatry clinic, simulated living environments, and a fully functioning ambulance. Our journalism students learn in industry-standard TV and radio studios, and architecture students work in a ‘superstudio’ environment which allows for collaborative working. We have a training restaurant in which our culinary arts and international hospitality management students serve members of the public while gaining the business expertise needed to lead in the hospitality industry.

Optometry students treat members of the public in a functioning optometry clinic, while our pharmacy students benefit from an on-campus model pharmacy. Our Food and Consumer Testing Suite is internationally renowned and was involved in the taste testing of the McPlant burger. Our Financial Innovation laboratory is home to professional Bloomberg software which brings the pace and excitement of real world economics and finance into the classroom. Students have access to the same information as leading decision-makers in finance, accounting, business and government giving them the confidence and skills to compete in a global job market. Our Moot Court is where our law students make oral arguments and taking part in simulated court or arbitration proceedings. These are just some examples of how we work with industry partners to ensure our learning facilities help prepare our students for real-life work environments.

Living here

Each campus has a unique feel. Our Derry~Londonderry campus is situated in the heart of Northern Ireland’s second city, the capital of the northwest. The campus offers a city experience with a friendly vibe. The city of Derry is famous for its culture and festivals, which include the Foyle Film Festival, the largest Halloween celebrations in Europe, and the Derry Jazz Festival. The vibrant nightlife is complemented by a host of cultural venues and activities, and the fame of the city has spread thanks to the popularity of the TV show Derry Girls.

The Coleraine campus is situated on the banks of the River Bann and is just 3 miles from the bustling seaside towns of Portrush and Portstewart, making it an outdoor lover’s dream. The beautiful campus is home to the Riverside Theatre, a state-of-the-art sports complex and a woodland heritage trail. With opportunities to surf and bodyboard in the Atlantic, kayak and sail on the River Bann, there are plenty of water sports to avail of, and the area is renowned for its golf and motorcycling having hosted The Open and the North West 200.

Described as one of Europe’s most hip, vibrant and affordable cities (Complete University Guide 2022), Belfast is home to a bustling social and cultural scene. Our love of music, food and craic is synonymous with Belfast, bringing millions of visitors each year, creating a cosmopolitan feel in a compact city.

What students have to say/Q&A

“My name is Rohith Mathew. I’m in my final year of International Hospitality Management, studying at the start-of-the-art new Belfast Campus. I completed my placement year at the Four Seasons, a leading global premium hotel brand. It was an invaluable year allowing me to experience what it’s like to work at the top of the hospitality industry. I have been offered the opportunity to join the Four Seasons Manager-in-Training programme after graduation. Without the help of my lecturers and the university non of these opportunities or experiences would have been possible.” Rohith Mathew, International Hospitality Management

“The digital services offered by the university are really helpful. Everything I need is so accessible whether that’s contacting my lecturers to accessing my academic calendar, learning materials and assignments online.” Angela Rillon, Language and Linguistics

“The support at Ulster has been really great so far. The lecturers are always really quick to reply.” Alex Balmer, Health and Social Care Policy
