  • Royal Holloway, University of London guide

Royal Holloway has an interesting history: it was initially founded as a women's-only college by Victorian entrepreneur Thomas Holloway in the late 1800s, in a building that was the height of Victorian grandeur. The red-brick French-inspired architecture is still at the heart of the university today and dominates the campus.

It merged with Bedford College, another women's-only institute in 1985, to form the university that it is today. However, men, don't be put off by it's women's-only roots: the institution has happily accepted men for over 100 years!

With varied alumni including composers, musicians, MPs, journalists and writers, Royal Holloway is considered one of the best places to study if you've a passion for the arts.
