University of Sussex guide
The University of Sussex was the first of the new wave of universities founded in the 1960s and celebrated its 50th anniversary in 2011–12. The campus is set entirely within the South Downs National Park whilst its location in Falmer is just minutes away from the vibrant seaside city of Brighton. The concrete buildings on campus have been arranged in the shape of a cat when viewed from above: which pretty much sums up the quirkiness of the university in a way!
It offers a broad array of subjects to study covering those in humanities, science, culture and media all taught on campus. The University of Sussex has slowly risen up in the rankings over the years, and it boasts alumni including politicians, journalists, philosophers and scientists. All of the departments at Sussex have world-leading, internationally excellent or internationally recognised research.
