Ah, that sounds rather good fun - except the drama bit of course. It sounds like we might cross over courses a little bit then, ours is a 3 way split between the English, history and archaeology departments but we will be spending most of our time with you lot, I think. We spend a third of second year in Norway, hopefully digging up old Vikings and really getting to grips with what remains of Viking culture. Quite a lot of history which is good, but we're also doing a lot of the linguistic stuff - at least I hope we are. Viking literature is absolutely where it's at!
-
Haha yeah I can imagine you'd do quite well on that!
Um I think compulsory modules in the first year are like an introduction to literary analysis, the beginnings of the english language, introduction to drama (which I'm dreading) and then there's subsidary modules which look quite fun - things like creative writing, shakespeare, the viking world etc. It gets more specific in Yr2, looking at particular authors and time periods and genres, so I think that looks really good!
What's involved in your course? I've always thought it sounded quite interesting - quite a niche subject! Is it anything to do with English language or is it more history? -
Haha! Yes, I think we are AQA too. Had to learn so much for the exam this year, the religion bashing bit should go ok I think! Yeah, what sort of stuff is your course covering?
-
Sorry, never got round to replying to you. It's all cooled down now thankfully - I was starting to wish I'd never posted that bloody poem ahahah. Yeah we had to cover two topics per exam and we had two exams. What exam board were you on? I was AQA.
And whatcha mean? As in at uni? -
Katyness is doing a bit better than the other guy! Still, she's hardly putting forwards a convincing argument. Isn't it funny how some religious people claim to know our position better than we do!
-
Sorry 'bout that vanishing act, 'twas dinner. Wow, you studied all that philosophy? I don't know how you had time, we just did religion and... I can't even remember what the other thing was last year. It might have been epistemology... Never mind! So what sort of stuff are you doing next year?
-
I love biology but I hadn't realised how much Chemistry was involved in it! So I do struggle with it more than my other subjects.
Ah right - I think you're in the minority, most English students seem to prefer the literature side! I do combined so it's a bit of everything - I think I do prefer the literature, but you're right about the sort of technical side to language. It is very interesting.
Ah we did philosophy of religion too! I only did philosophy as an AS this year but I loved it - nothing better than a good debate! We did all of the epistemology stuff, Political philosophy, God and the World and Tolerance this year. Tolerance was interesting, like all of the paradoxes within tolerance, but it was definitely the religious element of philosophy that I preferred. -
I always loved Biology, part of me laments not having followed a scientific route, but there we go. I'm on lang, I've never been a great fan of analysing writing and all our school does is Victorian literature in the theme of love (yawn, followed by suicide), so it definitely wasn't for me. I really enjoy the scientific side of Language, although there is still a little too much BS on the analysis side really. Philosophy is more fun, one can get one's teeth stuck well into a good argument! It's a fairly Christian school so we do philosophy of religion - amusingly all the study of arguments for and against religion has just made the class even less religious than it was at the start. Which philosophical areas do you study?
-
I went for Broadgate Park standard single - wanted an ensuite but was too late, but it'll be fine! Na I'm on WJEC for English so I've got a little longer! My first is Biology on Friday. Which English do you do?
-
I've got a standard single in Sherwood - I was hoping to get into Cripps but there we go. Know where you're staying? It will be great fun, the staff are brilliantly enthusiastic there. I guess you will have some of the same exams as me coming up in the next few days - AQA English on Monday? I'm really not looking forward to that one...
