I did Stats rather than Mechanics. Yeah I did have to teach myself because none of the maths teacher in my school teaches it.

Our school was a 5-column school from fifth year onwards. My subjects that were in "official" columns were Physics, Music, English and Maths (but I just sat in that year's AH class and taught myself Stats). Since I took Computing as well which was not offered, I took the fifth column off as free periods and taught myself in that column. I also took some time off weekly in the Maths column to tutor some Higher pupils.

My choices were carefully chosen to prepare for a possibility in reading Law at uni so it had a balanced mixture of arts as well as science, and I was particularly lucky at my school that this particular mixture fitted all the columns without clashes. If I had chosen to do say two or three sciences then there would have been clashes.

Hi there mate, I wonder if you can answer a quick question for me regarding advanced highers. I was talking to my head teacher about doing 4 and his general response was quite confused as to how you managed to fit 5 into your time table, he mentioned that columns should have clashed or something. Care to shed some light on how you managed to do 5? Without any of them clashing in columns or anything. Thanks. Also, did you self teach AH mechanics? Or did your school offer it? If not, did you ask for a teacher to teach you it? The help would be greatly appreciated, cheers mate.
