Sound like good choices! Ideally I would have put two for Charlton and one for Waterside as well, sadly I simply couldn't afford the higher scale at Charlton, so ended up putting Charlton, Waterside and Independent.

That sounds alright actually 3 B's, what have you already got in terms of highers that they offered you that amount for conditionals if you don't mind me asking :p :)

I may be late for you but Glasgow and Kingston are the most reputable. Otherwise Falmouth would be my next recommendation.

I have a place on the CSM Foundation for 2013/2014 but I live in London so will be living at home. I emailed them asking loads of questions and this was their reply:

"Thank you for your e-mail. We have approximately 5 applications to every place on the Foundation Diploma. In 2013/14 there will be around 650 students with approximately 25 starting out on the PDP curriculum area, although they will study alongside students on the Diagnostic route. The Foundation Diploma will be moving from the Back Hill site next year, and we will be communicating more detailed information on this in the coming weeks."

Really happy that it's moving to the King's Cross site.

Hi, I have offers from Coventry and Sheffield Hallam to study Art and Design but just cannot decide between the two. Can anyone offer any advise ? Think i like the look of Sheffield Hallam more but Coventry seems to do so much better in all the University tables. I'm stuck!

I'm currently doing an assignment on metals in interior design.

Basically I need to furnish and design an interior space using only metals - doesn't matter if it's aluminum sheets or brass tile, but I can only use metal.

I'm stuck on what I could do, I mean I know I could use metal laminates and tin ceilings, but what else is out there?

I also need to write a detailed research report on different types of metals, and basically everything related to metal. The only thing I have managed to research right now is the different types of metals and patinas.

Are there anything else that's important to include in the report?

@beccafairy: Wow, the student work from Norwich seems pretty darn good. They say that I need at least a B in an arts-related subject for my A-levels, which I probably won't achieve. However, I think the pieces that I do in my own time are a better reflection of my skill, so could I get away with a portfolio with those pieces if I don't meet their entry requirements?

@annalily: I've heard of that "foundation course" thing tossed around quite a bit, but I still don't get what it is. A few people that I know say that all art universities require you to do a foundation course, do they mean that those foundation courses are part of the actual courses you want to do? Can you tell me more about your foundation course?

I am want to study popular music performance and recently went to Goldsmiths (which I thought would be my first choice before I went, but was not that impressed with), RNCM and Leeds College of Music. I really liked Leeds but was wondering what sort of reputation it has in the market. No one on this thread seems to mention it and I am wondering why. I attend a very high achieving Grammar School where a third of students go to Oxford and Cambridge and lots of people want to be doctors or lawyers so I am bucking the trend. I am predicted AAB in my A'levels. I would really like to hear anyone opinion or experience of Popular Music at Leeds, RNCM and Goldsmiths.

I AM EXACTLY THE SAME! I have had offers from all thre uni courses and am literally deciding tonight ready to confirm tomorrow.

I THINK I'm going to go for Kingston so if either of you decide on there then I'll see you in September!

The reason why I think Kingston is the right one for me is that I know how distracted I get and if I was at Brighton I would spend all my time on the pier putting coins into the machines than doing work, haha! Also, at Chelsea I just felt quite out of place and it seems all a bit more like you work there then leave whereas the other two there seems to be more time spent with the other students.

(Plus they said you could take a beer upstairs in the evenings if you were working late. Totally up for that.)

Thank you for your reply. When I went to the open day we did not have a chance to speak to any of the staff as the queue was so big. I think I will go back to another open day at Goldsmiths and hopefully if I get an audition will be able to have a good chat there. RNCM was an extremely professional set up but it is in Manchester! Not sure if that should sway me or not??

Hey, I studied Dance at Roehampton.

I'm obviously going to say Roehampton, and I don't know much about the course at Middlesex, but I'll talk about my experiences of the department over the last 5 years.

All I can say is that the Dance department is fantastic and the students really come together to create a great team. I've seen the course modifications over time since when I was a 1st year, and the department's never been in better shape. There's a new Head of Dance starting soon, who's been teaching at Roe for years, and I know she's fantastic and has loads of ideas for the future of the department.

Sure, compared to conservatoires there 'isn't much practical' within the first year of your degree, but that's because they're not training you to be the perfect contemporary dancer (such as at Laban etc) However the people I've seen get the most out of their dance degrees are those who are committed to the full rounding of the university experience (I'm not talking about drinking), and do whatever they can. If you just turn up to your classes and go home again, you won't get much out of it. The people that got 1sts because they took academic modules and their writing was amazing, but they didn't spend any time on the practical side, now either aren't working or are working in a career that has nothing to do with dance. Those I know who got 2:1s, and yet spent the whole 3 years soaking everything up from the experience and networking, are those who are now working as choreographers, auditioning as dancers, are working in an arts admin job (which in itself is very competitive and hard to get in to!) or have completed further training in many other arts related subjects.

There are countless postgraduate choreography performances you can audition to be in. In the last year there's been a dedicated network coordinator who has brought to light so many experiences and opportunities externally you can get involved with. In 2nd and 3rd year there are choreography modules, and those are the people who spend most of their time in the studio, building up their creative practices and making contacts. There's also the dance festival and student platform. Networking is key! In 3rd year there are vocational modules where you could lean towards Community Teaching, Lighting, Dance Journalism, Dance Film etc, and many people I know then progressed to follow these avenues after graduation.

Maybe Middlesex is the same, I don't know, but there's a reason that Roehampton Dance has such a good name for itself :)

Also in terms of the general uni, parts of the admin side are a bit disorganised, and you may have friends studying other subjects who complain, but the course is definitely what you make of it. I loved the fact that it's a campus uni too, so you can get really close to your coursemates and flatmates, and you can walk around and recognize someone you know. I loved being a student at Roe!

I like both so much! Im also living in london (at home - cheaper) and close to both.

emmajane94- Sheffield Hallam all the way. I applied to both Sheffield Hallam and Leeds Met a year ago and i am now studying in Sheffield. The studios that we use are just great they have a really nice atmosphere with a nice amount of space and lots of natural light, the studios in Leeds just looked abit ****. Sheffield as a city, ****s on Leeds, I am from Leeds originally you see, so i know. The people are much friendlier, plus Sheffield has the most practicing artists outside of London in England, so there's lots off art everywhere. Sheffield Sheffield Sheffield

So I just now (over the weekend) got a reply from central saint martins, so I now have offers from Northumbria, Loughborough, Brunel, and Central Saint Martins.

I have given up on waiting for edinburgh to reply since the deadline is on thursday and I am not that interested. I am also applying to the Royal Danish school for design, and should be getting a reply on wednesday (although this doesn't have an effect on my UCAS choices).

At the moment, my 3 that I am considering are Northumbria, Loughborough and Central Saint Martins. I have done a bunch of research, but still can't decide whether staying in London is right for me, and whether Saint Martins is famous for stuff other than fashion.

Basically, does anyone have any advice/opinions on the quality of the courses/student life, at the 3 unis that I mentioned.

iv just competed a foundation course and i now plan to go on a ba in graphic design at nottingham trent, the thing is im 20 & now iv competed a foundation, and previously failed a year in ba graphic design (because of illness).. is it possible to now go onto the second year instead of the first year? has anyone done this at all? or is it just not possible to transfer like that?

i have my interview next week an im kinda scrared about asking it , but i really dont want to do another year!

I'm an international student coming from New Zealand and I need some serious help as I have to choose in the next day or so.

So I really want a university that will be beneficial for me later on in life with a good reputation, yet has a great student life and a place I will fill comfortable in to do my design work.

So, I've been accepted to the Universities of Surrey and Durham to pursue a Bachelors degree in Music from October. My preferred career path is orchestral conducting, but I'm passionate about violin as well. The advantage of Surrey is the ability to specialize in conducting at the BA level, but the advantage of Durham is the ranking and also that I have a wonderful violin teacher located not too far from the University there.

Uni of Surrey offers conducting courses, which I'd like to get feedback on if anyone has taken these courses. I've been conducting for about 5 years and i've gotten pretty advanced, so i'm wondering about the extent to which I should pursue these courses.

Which offer would you rather pick - Durham or Surrey?

Yes it is about an hour away from Edinburgh, it has about 3 clubs. The course is good there so if you don't mind not being in a city and having a smaller social circle I would go there.
Glasgow School of Art is extremely hard to get into so I'd say you have the chance of a great opportunity, it's one of the best for Arts in the UK. They also have a wider range on contacts in the industry. They are both really good and I have friends in both uni's and they both love it. Either would look great to any employer!

Sounds nice that you have the opportunity to specialise in one area of design from typo/graphics , design for advertising to interaction and moving image + other paths.I think I'll go for the interaction and moving image.I'm so exciting ...
The last thing to do is to find a place to stay,preferably a student hall.What about you? Still confused which uni to choose?

Hey thanks for answering! Yeah I've checked them both out, the Oxford course seems extremely academic (and I'm not too bad with essays) but I've heard the extracurricular practical music making is absolutely brilliant there. The Tonmeister course is much less music centred, but has a placement year in industry and fantastic resources for all aspects of music production. However the music outside of the course is much more minimal and definitely won't be of the same standard as at Oxford.

I got into New College - any thoughts?
