Hi, everyone! :)

I was just wondering, should I include my high school GPA on my UCAS application? I've just moved from England to America and am currently in my junior year of high school.

However, since I wasn't a freshman or a sophomore here in America, do I need to include my GPA on my UCAS application, or can I just put down that I have a high school diploma without mentioning my GPA?

My GCSEs weren't that good (I only managed to get 4 GCSEs at a C or above), so if they were to be included in my GPA as my freshman and sophomore grades, I'm worried that they'll lower my overall GPA score. I'm doing much better now, though, and I'm currently trying very hard to improve my academic performance! :)

You've just got to really inspect the course though - not the area, not the rep - to find out which is right. Too many people make the decision to go to a uni on rep basis alone, and that's why every year there are so many drop-outs.

Hi,

I'm 23 in June and 10 years ago I went to...

Hi,

I'm 23 in June and 10 years ago I went to the USA. I went to New Jersey/New York.

Manhattan is the greatest place I have ever visited. As a 13 year old, the number of toy shops selling Beyblades and stalls selling comic books and Yu-Gi-Oh was amazing. So many different ethnicities too. Within 5 minutes I saw two Nuns on the road and it was like Sister Act :P

I wonder, how does everything work in America?

Isn't your school system 5-14 for Junior High School and then 14-19 for High School? What are GCSE/A level equivalents because I read High School Diplomas are A-Level; does that mean you can't quit before/when you get the GCSE equivalent?

Is it really like the TV shows? In the UK we get people who fool around in school but who also get good grades at the same time. In the TV shows I see the popular kids sitting in the back of class doing nothing :p In the UK we are not allowed to bring cars into school though?

Why do you guys have so much invested into sports? In the UK all the state schools have sports but not the range of sports that you have. We don't have the likes of NCAA though.

What free TV channels do you guys have? Which ones are free and which are on cable?

Where do you guys go for shopping? I know you have Wal Mart and Costco- any other popular stores? I heard you have Tescos but it is under another name.

Finally, is there a state/part of a state that EVERYBODY likes because some states are made fun of by others :p

Not so much a question about your Uni as opposed to how you address the job situation in the UK- which could be described as pretty horrific at the moment for non-EU citizens.

Hello everyone!

I just started my channel on Youtube and i recently made a video about my experience with getting from my country to UK since i am an international student.

I remember last year around this time i had found TSR and i kept looking for stories where people pretty much gave advice but in the same time shared a bit of their experience and this is exactly what i did in my video.

If you wanna check it out that would be great and you are more than welcomed to leave comments with suggestions and/or requests.

I do plan on making more videos that cover subjects such as:

-What to bring to university
-Accommodation
-Things that i wish people told me before i came to UK
-Social/Uni life

and so on..

Thank you for reading this and i hope this video will help you all :)
My question is, are the following universities known to accept international students based on their predicted AP scores and/or SAT tests already taken?
Oxford
UCL
Nottingham

Hello TSR,

I am not sure if this is the right...

Hello TSR,

I am not sure if this is the right section to place this but mods please move as appropriate.

I was hoping someone could kindly help me with something.

I am looking for the following:

1.) Does anyone have any links or sources which provide ranks of universities and A-levels on an international level?

2.) Also I need to have the grade conversions to UK version for international universities? i.e. 5.0 is equal to 2.1 (example)

I would be most grateful if someone could offer to help provide links or sources. It would be appreciated if someone can give me information in one document summarizing key information if anyone had anything on either A-levels or university.

If not any help would do!

Thank you

Im planning to take economic in Dauphine, what do you think? Is there any french public university that is better in economic than Dauphine? Is it hard to get into Dauphine? Thank you, your reply will be so helpful :)

L'Université Paris IX Dauphine is one of the best french universities to study Economics! (Of course, there are so many others that are as great as Paris IX is). Needless to say, admission is highly selective though...
If French is not your first language, you may be asked to provide proof of French language proficiency. C1 (near-fluent) is the level of French needed to study in France. However, this should not deter you from applying!

One of the perks of studying in France is that tuition fees are not expensive at all - it goes up to 600€ for an undergraduate degree. :)

Well, if you have any other questions, feel free to contact me. :)

Newbie here. I'm aware I already posted this in the Welcome Lounge,
but that was an accident!
Hey there Student Room xx
I'm originally of Indian descent, but lived in the UK for most of my life (I'm a British citizen). Recently, my family and I relocated back to South India.
My plan has always been to return to the UK for University, or in the worst case, post-grad. The likelihood is that I'll be pursuing a career path in either economics or science (most probably the latter).
I was wondering if the members of student room, especially anyone with past experience of applying to the UK (from outside of the EU) or teachers currently working in universities, had any advice, or could point me in the direction of a similar post? Or a more suitable forum to post this in where I might get the response I'm looking for?
Should I start volunteering and charity work already? As I recall my old careers adviser telling me, the two, combined with work experience, are a crucial part of a university application. Do you think the same criteria is applicable for an international candidate? I'm aware that individual universities have their own grade requirements. Also, could you give me a general idea about the current prospects of me gaining admission in a British university now/in the next few years? Is it more practical for me to wait and just do a post-grad qualification in the UK? Will I have to pay regular citizen fees? Or International?
Appreciate the time!! xxxx

Also, if I get a conditional offer and need to send AP scores, but the universities that need them don't have an SAT or College Board code, how do I send those scores?

Hei Alle!

Hi There

I just finished my BA degree in Illustration and would like to study a further year of Honors In Illustration in the USA (new York, Canada) or somewhere in Europe (Madrid, Germany, Netherlands).

Trouble is, I spoke to the School of Visual Arts in New York and they said they only take students into Honors if they have studied with them from first year. I don't want to redo a degree which I already have just to be able to do Honors and so I need a place that accepts international degree students into their Honors Illustration Courses.

I'd like the institution I go to, to be in the same league as the School of Visual Arts in New York but I have no idea where to start looking and am feeling a bit overwhelmed.

Help would be greatly appreciated!

How easy it to transition to the US education system given that she has 2 years before she would graduate at 18 in the US before choosing a university in the US?
Does the US have the equivalent of A Levels? If so, are they similar in length to the UK?

Hi,
I'm a Norwegian guy that studied in the UK (graduated 2004 with a BA), and am thinking of doing a Masters. Ignoring the fact that I haven't decided whether it's worth it or not (experience in the work environment counts for more in my opinion), what places would you suggest I look at as options outside of the UK?

Things I'd be looking for:
1- good reputation school
2- int'l student body
3- developed country, no 'up and coming' schools

Btw, the US is obviously the first option that seems obvious, but it seems quite expensive to me... is it any cheaper for an MA/MBA elsewhere?

Cheers!

No problem :)

The uni campus is right on the edge of the city centre, but most of the accommodation is a bit further out. It took me half an hour or so to walk there from the main campus, it's just straight down the same road. Took 5/10 mins on the bus back (it's the busiest bus route in Europe apparently, so no shortage of buses :p)

This map should help: http://goo.gl/maps/lxiZu
These are extremely selective as well, and students who are accepted follow an especially rigorous curriculum. You can read about it here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Classe_...es_%C3%A9coles

There are many schools which have a good reputation for economics in France, (Like Toulouse School of Ecomomics)but again it would be wise if you were fluent in French before applying, as many do not offer courses in English. It is not usually hard to get in but as a foreign student it might be a little more complicated.

Paris I is not a bad university, but you must remember that every school has it's pros and cons depsite where they might be or what their reputation might dictate.

I would recommend you try out Toulouse School of Economics, but again I would suggest looking at English speaking countries first as France is not widely known to be accomodating for those who speak no French. :)
