I don't do Pharmacy, but my friend does and she...

I don't do Pharmacy, but my friend does and she was pretty busy in the first year. With regular assessments.

In terms of jobs, Keele Uni pay their student ambassadors well, and as long as you're fairly normal and can string a sentence together, they're likely to hire you. Don't expect much work though because they hire about 250 people. It's been my first year of employment, and I've applied for many job opportunities and not been selected - they mostly go for those with experience which is ironic. If you have a car, you're more likely to be selected for work. But they CRB you and train you, so it's not all in vain. Plus once you're hired, you can renew your contract in your following years of study without having to apply again. Work mainly involves data handling, visit days, campus tours, organizing activities for local schools, mail-outs, assisting promotion events. I just like it because it's so flexible. You just apply for work when you want to, and there's no obligation to apply for everything (as long as you work once, or apply for something once in the year, then you're okay). They have their application deadline fairly early on in the semester so get on it when you get there.

On the Keele Students Union website they sometimes advertise for bar staff, stewards and kitchen/catering staff, but stuff doesn't come round too often. I believe stewards are in high demand, and as along as you're willing to work till late then its a good job. Opportunities within the other shops are few and far between and receive so many applications which isn't surprising seeing as there are thousands of students on campus.

In Newcastle they have many independent shops and small chains which are likely to hire students during the term time. Going around with multiple copies of your CV would be a good place to start at the beginning of the first semester. I've heard of a place in particular taking advantage of students by hiring them on a trial basis to see if they're 'right' then letting you go after a week, so just watch out.

Keele also organize a 'get hired' fair at the start of each semester and you get bars and pubs looking for staff there, so that's the place to go if you want that sort of work.

I hope this was helpful. A few of my friends have managed to hold on to stable jobs at Keele, so it is possible to do.

Hey :) i'm currently a fresher at keele and the best advice I could give is to apply for either a room with an ensuite or a room WITHOUT a sink. If you get a room with a sink you are most likely going to have to share a bathroom/kitchen with up to 30 people (i.e. Lindsey Hall) if you do not get a sink you will probably share a bathroom/kitchen with maximum 6 people. I live in Horwood (no sink) and our halls is segregated into 4 areas each for 6 people. You get a better sense of community and you not only have to share with less people but you make friends a lot faster. I know people who live in other Halls who don't even know their neighbours.

Hope this is helpful :) overall the accommodation is good. Keele is amazing have a good time!!

If you're in Lindsay Hall and you don't have a sink, for about 8 of the blocks you have to share 2 bathrooms and 1 kitchen between 15 of you so it's not all as small as in Horwood. Can be good, can be bad :/

Hey :)
I'm just finishing my first year at Keele and the experience has been amazing for me. The SU is one of the best in the country. There are always events on each night with monday, wednesday and friday always heaving. We also get lots of great acts and funny dress-up nights. In terms of the campus it is really pretty and green and easy to find your way around. If you get accommodation on campus (very likely) you'll find yourself rarely leaving. There is a great atmosphere and because in terms of students we have a lower population you end up bumping into people all the time. It is really easy to meet new people and I particularly think that you get to know the lecturers really well with approx 60/70 people per course its hard not to.

The only draw back is that the nearest shopping districts (Hanly and Newcastle) aren't great although there is a few clubs in Hanly (20 mins away on the bus.) You never really need to leave campus to be honest because everything is here and the SU is that good!

First year is mainly for fun and even the lecturers kind of understand if you're a bit sleepy after returning form SU at 3 am and have 9 am lecture.

Hope this helps! Keele is great :)

I think I can only realistically get 140, do you think they'll let me in with this? Considering it is a foundation year or should I be worried i won't get in? Also if anyone has done this course or a similar foundation year at Keele could you give me some more details about what the year involves? Thanks in advance.

Yeah, it seems like everyone whos visited wants to go Lindsay and Horwood seems to be the biggest and cheapest halls. The catch 22 here is that by applying for a wash basin I might be put into Hawthorns or Barnes but its worth it I guess, having your own wash basin does seem really useful!

Hi guys, I applied to Keele's postgraduate program last week. I know they say on their website they tend to take 10 working days to reach a decision. I was talking to my friend who also applied to Keele quite awhile back, and she never heard back from them.

How long does it really take? Does it depend on whether or not your professors have sent in their references? Thank you!

Edit: I'm an American student, if that makes a difference!

oh right, i thought that they did?
how can you do 1 year at keele and then do graduate entry?? dont you need to do the three years to be able to go into a grad entry course? really? im doing this because i didnt get the proper grades to go straight into medicine, so im hoping that a undergrad in biomed will help me get into it after?

You can't do that, as said by Benrowlands36 above. But I guess you could apply for undergrad if you have the correct A-level grades, I think it's considered like a gap year but you'll come out with a certificate of higher education. Keele won't consider course transfers onto Medicine as far as I know. Plus I believe they are bringing back post-grad medicine for 2014 entry.

You could post on the Keele University 2012/13...

You could post on the Keele University 2012/13 Freshers page on Facebook. It's a popular page, and you could use it as a way to see how many people already at Keele are interested.
https://www.facebook.com/groups/keel...shers/?fref=ts

I think you need to have a certain amount of people interested to set a society up, I'm not sure how many off the top of my head.
