Hey guys

I'm starting my access to nursing in September and thought it might be nice to try and get a group together doing the same course to help with any topics we get stuck on.

Please introduce yourself, say what your concerns are or just share what your happy about and what you'd like to do at Uni.

I'm Mel (28 y/o), I haven't studied for 11 years so a bit worried how much we'll have to learn but so excited I've made a decision to go to uni and do my nursing, it'a been tough giving up my current career.
I am also really keen and asked my college for a reading list. They said not to buy these books but you could get them at the library.

Human Biology - Mike Boyle and Kathryn Senior/Collins/ISBN: 0007135998
Structure and Function of the Body – Thibodeau Patten/Mosby/ISBN: 0323022421

If you'd like to buddy up for tricky questions along the way, I'd be happy to do so. I really want to get distinctions to get me in to the best Uni that I'm possible to go to.

Hi Julie
No you do not do any english or maths test for this interview. Did you go to the information evening they had on? they say you need to bring with you a personal statement. You will be in a group interview first and then you will write a essay. Try and not be nervous, participate as much as you can in the group. the whole process is only an hour.
Best of Luck

Hi everyone!

Hi everyone!
I need some help desperately, last year i took the final leap into my studies and settled on something i wanted, Childcare. This course was offered in an apprenticeship once i complete it i will have my level 2.
However it has taken a year just for my first level and as i am now 21 employers have to pay me minimum wage if they take me on to do my level 3 (no-one will do that as i am still not qualified and would be getting qualified wages).
So now I'm 1 month from finishing, i have no money to my name as i'm on 71 a week, i feel the only way to get my level 3 is by going to college, does anyone know a cheap fast course for my level 3 starting as soon as possible?
or just help with a good course to choose after my level 3? I'm interested in physchology or child development work.
that will lead to getting me to university?

I started my level 2 july 1st 2012. I finish July 2013.
I live in Sutton /handsworth area of Birmingham so a commute to Birmingham is easy for me.
I need to be qualified as soon as possible so i can start getting a real wage.

Hi there, I appealed but that was due to a technical error that occurred during the test. They give you a card with a number to ring after your test but I think this is only if you report it to them or they note that a technical error or disruption of some kind has occurred.

I also failed by 1 mark when the error occurred. It was a lengthy process and I was eventually offered a free re-test but in the mean time passed. Unless you believe you were unfairly disrupted in some way theres probably no point in appealing and you should just book up and try again.

Don't rely too heavily on the practice tests as you start to memorize the answers use the How to Pass books and do the practice test in them!!

Hope it helps and good luck :):)

How did everybody find it? Most people consider this exam as a joke, but please avoid discussion of this nature.
Favourite question?
It has to be the multiple choice one asking you what emotion the woman is feeling (it was kindness, by the way). I love questions like that.

Hardest question?
That last 8 mark question was pretty tough (in comparison with the other questions), but overall I wouldn't really describe the paper as difficult...
How do you think you did?
If I don't get the better level, I'm going to cry.

Hello all,

I have recently decided on what I want to do In the future, as a career and too make a living. I want to be a Game Developer. I know that my main role in this overall job title would be the Programmer as that's what interests me most.

As I live in coventry, I applied for the Coventry City College Level 3 Extended Diploma in Games Development course. I turned up to my interview for the course to be shot down by being told that the course is full... I no longer have a place there and have now been put on the waiting list in case someone drops out or is forced to leave.

Now I begin what seemed to be a never ending search for a course again, one that appeals to me anyway. I was just wondering If anyone knew of any courses around the West Midlands (Warwickshire) area that would incorporate Games Development/Programming.

I have also looked in to Software Engineering, Computer Science and Ethical Hacking however I haven't found anything yet either :/ I Wouldn't mind an apprenticeship either but yet again, I have had no luck in finding one that fits me great... Any help would be appreciated.

I missed allot of school while doing my GCSEs because of various reasons and now i'm on 45% attendance. I'm planning to take A levels as a route towards a physics degree but my attendance has affected my attendance so much that I will probably manage 6 C's (nessacery to do A levels at my school) by the skin of my teeth. Of course if I don't manage this then I will have to think of something else and access courses are really the only backup for science that i'm aware of
However, i'm 16 and access courses are usually for mature students. I'm aware that most colleges make exceptions but would they make an exception for someone as young as me?
Access courses obviously don't have any real requirements but I should get A*-B grades in all my triple science and maths subjects so would this be to my favour?

Hi guys, I'm new here, but have been a long time lurker ^_^ I'm nearly 15 and wish to do a D of E award.
My school offers this, and I have a few questions (is this the right place to post? Forgive me if it isn't.. :o)

1. Does your school organise the places for you to do a sports/skill section, or do you have to seek out your own individual places? Do you have to pay too? (I suspect the answer is yes :( )

2. Can anyone recommend something in the skill/physical section that will be free/cheap to do?

3. Volunteering - are you allowed to go to a hospital?

4. If one person in your team (4-7 people...?) 'fails', like say if they gave up, as long as there's still 4 people in the team, do others fail too? And if someone uses their phones and a supervisor sees them, does everyone fail?

5. How long is the expedition? I've heard 20 miles, 30 miles, 18 miles etc. (btw its bronze).

6. As far as walking boots are concerned, can anyone recommend a good shop for comfortable boots, not too expensive (under £60?) I'm based in South East London, but Central London would be fine too.

7. Good socks? Good Rucksacks? Good food to bring? Good sleeping bag (shops)?

Thank you so much!! If you could answer any of the questions it would be greatly appreciated, and if you can spare any tips, please do so :) thanks

Hey
I've just done my bronze and for volunteering I worked in a charity shop, skills I used my singing lessons and physical I did indoor rock climbing, all of which were really fun. As has been previously said there aren't many things that are free but you might be able to find something. I don't know if it's the same everywhere but my school's policy is that a sports club run by the school can't be used for the physical but a company that comes in but just uses the facilities in the school would be ok if that makes sense.
My bronze was about 11 miles each day but it depends how fast you walk. Actually you will walk more than that because it's impossible not to get lost, even slightly lost. When I did it we walked round in a massive circle for an hour... You have to be out for 6 hours, at least 3 of which are journeying. I got my walking boots from millets, in the sale so they were about £60. It was just lucky I got them in the sale really but if there's one thing you shouldn't go cheap on it's walking boots, if you can avoid it. You will be spending about 12 hours walking in those shoes over a period of 2 days so you need to get ones that are comfortable, supportive and practical. Get them several months before your first expedition so you can wear them in because blisters kill when you have another 5 hours to go.
Socks - again, millets, Cotswold, any outdoor place. It depends on the person as to what to get because some people like 1 thin pair and a thicker pair, others like 1 really thick pair. Go walking in them and see what works for you. As for rucksacks I would really recommend going to Cotswold and having it fitted properly - it makes such a but difference. And you also get a discount because you are doing dofe as well. Food - light and full of energy, like quick cook pasta (seriously those 5 minutes you save with quick cook really makes a difference when you are cold, hungry and tired), pitta bread because it doesn't matter if it gets squashed, dried fruit and sweets. Instant hot chocolate, instant porridge, frankfurters etc. sleeping bags - get a warm, light and compact one and take loads and loads of clothes to sleep in. Layers rather than one really thick coat. It feels a lot colder at night when you have been outside all day and you will be so tired that you will want a good nights sleep. At least 2 fleeces on top of what you walked in because you will be too cold in pyjamas, a hat, scarf, gloves and coat and socks. I'd recommend leggings or something as well because they really make a difference. Also it's also worth investing in an inflatable roll mat because tthey're so much more comfortable. Dofe recommend a vango one

EPQ English Literature ideas

Hey,
I'm looking to apply to do an EPQ and English Literature. At my college it's quite competitive so not everyone who wants to do one can, so you have to apply and know ahead of time what your topic is going to be.

I would love to do one on English Literature but I'm a bit stuck for ideas. I'm going on a research trip to Iceland this Summer, looking at their myths/faery lore as well a other Icelandic literature, so I though I could incorporate that somehow? Maybe do something about supernatural in English lit? Or doubling/hidden worlds or something?

Alternatively, I could do something totally unrelated (but still English lit) and write up and Iceland report as a side project.

Please help?
