Hello,

Does the international students must to take their interviews via Skype or they still have a choice between Skype and Face-to Face interview ?

If we have the choice, which type of VISA should we apply for ? and what are the steps for the application VISA ?

Thank you

Face to face interviews are generally very much preferred and you may find yourself at a disadvantage if you can only interview over Skype (through perhaps unable to express your meaning clearly because you can't write it down and show it to the interviewers, or the interviewers not liking Skype interviews in general). Some colleges may not offer Skype interviews at all. You should ask the college for its attitude on Skype interviews potentially before you apply.

I think you would apply for a general visitor visa as a student visa requires a definite admission from a school/college/university in the UK. This is assuming you are a visa national, otherwise the permission to enter the UK you get on arrival with just your passport should be sufficient. Again you should check with the college which you intend to apply.

The Lack of Northerners thing is a little exaggerated at Oxford at any rate, there is a bigger percentage of people from S. of a line across the country drawn across Birmingham, but I doubt that it's a really big differential.

Admissions tests are very important! Don't...

Admissions tests are very important! Don't overlook them: since most people applying to Oxford have the predicted grades that have been asked for, this is important for competitive courses otherwise the university would end up interviewing almost everyone. I know a lot of people that did a lot of interview prep work, but ended up not even being invited to interview because of their admissions test.

Aside from that, I'd say it's very very useful to read around the subject. A lot of people say this just so you can show your passion, but I found that it really helped me in my interview. It showed me different ways to think and I could use the approach of whatever I read for a question even if they were different subjects. I was actually asked a question about the role of religion in society when earlier that week I had read an article about a new theory about why we evolved to become religious which was lucky and I could use this to base my answer on.

Finally - it's hard to do, but really really don't stress out. Find whatever works for you - it sounds weird but you could pretend that the interviewers are people you already know/teachers at your school so that it's more like a conversation and discussion rather than an interview where you're being judged.

I am embarrassed to say I used this site, with...

I am embarrassed to say I used this site, with DISASTROUS results. I should have never used it in the first place however, I ran out of time and I didn't know what to do. These people almost cost me my degree, and still might have. Day after day they promised that everything was on track and I would have my order with enough time to go over it, edit it, make it my own. First it was a few hours late, then a day late, and finally two days late, while still assuring me everything was fine. I basically realised it was never happening, probably three days too late and attempted to turn at least SOMETHING in so I didn't get a zero and fail my degree.

I don't know how these people can take advantage, if I couldn't turn something in I would have had to redo this year and been unable to accept my job offer throwing me further into debt.

This is clearly MY fault, and I do not shirk away from the blame, my only aim in discussing this is to BEG BEG BEG people not to use this service. They promise you the world and almost cost me everything, on top of a 600 pound price tag. PLEASE listen to this warning, no matter how bad your timing may be, you need to find a different option because feeling helpless and putting your faith in a completely flawed and corrupt system is NOT THE WAY.

DO NOT USE THEM THEY ARE A SCAM

Furthermore, they never even gave me the work and seven days later I am still waiting for my refund. PLEASE PLEASE LEARN FROM MY MISTAKE.

Where did you read/hear this?
Cambridge openly state that applicants with science subjects perform as well as those with humanities subjects, and that many colleges are pleased to see people with a mix of the two.

Perhaps ideally they'd like one or two essay subjects, but I cannot see why 'mostly humanities subjects' would be ideal. I'd certainly advise taking Maths if you can do it well, as it demonstrates another side of intelligence in a subject where reasoning and logic are sought after.

"Arts subjects at A-level are not required for the study of Law. Many applicants who study only Sciences subjects at A-level have achieved fine results in Law"

I never said they were required. It's not gospel but I think essay writing subjects are good practice for a degree which requires a lot of essays. If you took, say maths, physics and further maths, I wouldn't say that was as good a subject combination as history, French and maths.

One of my best friends took English, French and History at A Level and got the highest mark out of the lawyer freshers in college for Mods so I don't think the correlation between maths scores and doing well in law is necessarily that much of a big deal. Most of the first year lawyers at my college did English, History and either languages or philosophy at A Level, although clearly it varies from year to year/college to college and that's not to say that there aren't lawyers who did do science subjects at A Level, because there obviously are.

I am an offer holder at Cambridge. Regarding your GCSEs, an admissions tutor once said in a lecture on admissions that on average a successful applicant has around 7A*s at GCSE minimum. So you just qualify in that part of the selection process.

I don't think it's particularly helpful to take the mindset that to 'qualify' in the GCSE part of the selection process you need at least 7 A*s. Tutors look at your application holistically and, like you said, 7 A*s is an average - while it's true that with only a couple of A*s you may find it harder to get an interview, it's certainly not out of the question and many Oxbridge students didn't get that many A*s at GCSE. Your GCSE results are also measured against the rest of your school year's results and that is taken into account accordingly.
