Based on mocks, past papers and exams you've sat so far, what do you yourself expect to get realistically? If you think you've got a chance of meeting Warwick's offer then by all means go to visit - that way you'll know if you love or hate the place and this would help inform your decisions about universities.

Edit: Just to add, these minimum target grades don't mean much. I once did a subject where the timing of exams and my marks meant that I was sitting on an A before my last exam, but they still put my target grade as a B. I think these are more so that if you start to get marks below the target grades then there may be causes for concern.

MORSE at Warwick is extremely mathematical. Bear in the mind, the caliber of students getting onto Warwick Maths have A*A*A (Maths, Further Maths +Chem/Phys/Eco usually) and a 2 in STEP.

Unless you pick up Maths, Further Maths and drop PE and Business, then you don't stand a chance for Warwick MORSE (and Economics).

I'm also currently in (Old) Rootes.

I'm also currently in (Old) Rootes.
In my opinion, it's great. I was worried about the noise and about the toilets, but I'm really glad that I'm here.

As mentioned, if you want a quieter place, you'll get it. Higher floors are usually quieter (and often with a lot of Asians) while the ground and the 1st floor are more 'party-like'. Still, everyone is, after all, a student, so I've never had troubles with studying even though I live on the ground floor. What's more, you can always go to the Rootes learning grid (1 minute away) or the library (5 minutes away) if you want more silence.

As for the bathrooms and toilets - I've never had to wait for either, I now think that having en-suite bathroom is a huge waste of money and I know many people who used to be worried, but are perfectly ok with it now.

What's more - don't forget about Rootes' location - it's really convenient and close to the main things in the university (almost all lecture halls, the sports centre, cost cutter). Tesco is a little further, but no more than 15 minutes away so it's not that much of a deal.

All in all, I highly recommend my accommodation! ;)

I visited the University on an open day last year. Although they don't offer a Music degree, they had the best music centre out of any of the universities I'd visited. Loads of rooms with decent pianos in, and because there's no music degree you don't have to always give priority to music students - everyone has equal rights to use the rooms. They also have a music scholarship worth 500 pounds a year if I remember rightly, and apparently the standard for that is about grade 7/8 level so that was a bonus. I believe they also have a piano society. As for a studio, I seem to remember they had a recording studio but I'm not 100% sure. Personally I'm just bringing my home studio with me :-)

I had a look but couldn't find anything. The closest I've seen is the uni express although they only operate on certain nights and they do packages which involve going to some event once you're in Birmingham. So if your gig happens to coincide with one of their events then this might be an option.

Otherwise, you would have to either splash out and get a taxi or just sit around and wait. If it's not the sort of event that sells out quickly then you might be able to persuade some friends to come with you and split the cost.

Management is more general topic and you tend to study varies aspects in little detail, therefore tend not to specialized in a specific area. Whereas A&F is much more specific in that it ofers more detail, solid knowledge, and indeed, better CHANCE of entering a better career path than management in my opinion. However, unless you have a family business which in your case should be international, then I will not suggest management. It depends on you really and what you want to be doing in the future!

In terms of intercalated years in industry, you still have summers to arrange relevant placements (and longer vacations because of the ten week Warwick terms) and can just take a year afterwards developing your experience if necessary. I never really understood students taking a year out which delayed their qualification and (usually) meant being paid less than they would have been paid for the same work afterwards. I can see the appeal of the security offered by an intercalated placement but when they were available at Warwick, very students elected to pursue them.

To clarify - they are still available at Warwick.

I can only speak for myself, but I found mine invaluable - I was really ready for a break from studying and a year out working really helped me decide what I wanted from a future career. Lots of intercalated years also result in graduate job offers which means much less worry about what to do after you graduate. Yes the pay is less than you would get as a graduate, but its still a decent salary, it seems massive after a student loan, and you obviously don't pay council tax either which is another saving. I was able to save quite a bit which has massively helped this year, meant I haven't had to worry about money at all which is a stress you really don't need in final year.

Plus, intercalated years are much easier to get than grad jobs ;) and its great experience to have when you come to apply for grad jobs!

Okay, here's the thing. im a serious student and obviously want the best for my studies, in INTERNATIONAL RELATIONS....

... HOWEVER

im also a very outgoing person and love to get to know new people, get drunk, go out every night. that's why im afraid I would get bored in a small town or on a campus... but im not so sure about that because I have no clue what is life like on a campus.

im also a open-minded person and dont mind different types of people, but i have to admit i wouldnt be able to stand posh people IF they are snobbish and arrogant.

taking all that in consideration, could anyone give me some advice on which university would be the best for me?

and I have some more specific questions about each:
- is warwick awfully small and boring?
- is the nightlife actually inexistent in durham? are people rahs there?
- in st andrews really elitist? is it a way too small city for someone who has lived in big cities all her life?
- are people in edinburgh sort of kept to themselves?
- which one has the best reputation in international relations?

thank you to anyone who answers any one of these questions! :)

It's going to be a bit difficult to answer those questions - the important thing to bear in mind is that although you may see stereotypes of people going to each university, in general there would be a wide a variety of people wherever you go so you'll probably find plenty of people you'll get along with.

With regards to Warwick, the events available on campus at the SU might be a bit limited (I don't really go out much but judging by what you've said you might be looking for more variety) although there are also places nearby in Coventry, Leamington and even Birmingham that you can go to.

I don't really know which university has the best reputation for international relations - all of the universities you've listed are very good in general.

Also you may or may not know this already but Warwick University isn't actually in Warwick - it's on the edge of Coventry. So if you do research what's nearby then focus on Coventry and Leamington. Many students live in Leamington after the first year.

You can leave after your last exam, although (the exact methods for distributing results depend on the department) you would probably need to come back to collect your results. Also the exact exam timetables aren't released until around the start of the summer term so you are advised not to book any travel etc before then. Many people do stay till the end as it gives you the chance to socialise with friends once there is no more revision left.

A major difference between university and sixth form is that there is no requirement to be there and on campus apart from any compulsory sessions. So it might even be possible to spend much of the summer term away from the university and just come in for exams. Whether you can do this would depend on what lectures, seminars etc have been organised by your department during this time.

ok thanks for all the replys. I did email the admissions office but they said the course was no longer accepting new applicants. However i was wondering if anyone had any idea how difficult it is to transfer once the semester starts?

Thanks

I'm unable to answer your question but I thought this was an interesting question as I was initially planning of applying to MORSE/actuarial science but decided for A+F in the end!

Just wondering what made you go from A+F to MORSE? IMO MORSE is only worth doing if you want to go into actuary/enjoy maths and OR etc. It's a beast of a course but the effort + workload required as well as the difficulty of it made it quite unappealing. A+F seems to set people well for both accounting and finance careers.

I would like to ask for opinion about Politics L200 at Warwick. What do you feel about studying politics at Warwick in general (I am still reluctant between Warwick and Durham though)?

There seems to be quite a wide range of courses (I think I will choose the modules about political economy and security), but only 4 modules to choose per year. Does this mean each module is quite large and comprehensive?

Regarding the exam, what is it like? 3 hours and 3 questions? Will students be put under a lot pressure to achieve good grade?

Thank you very much in advance.

Yes it did, thanks! May I ask what you base those figures of people firming another uni before their Warwick offer came in though? I know I was so tempted to do so - my offer from Warwick only came in a few days ago. I've never been Warwick but I really liked what I saw of York and the pbl system obviously. Ah well, still have till June to decide. I think I'll firm Warwick and put York as 2nd choice, even though I have the exact same offer from each York might be slightly more lenient if I miss my grade by one point.. I read above that you have made your choice! Must be nice to have something concrete to look forward to :)

Illogical (though I know what you mean).

For those not in the know, they think it's a genuine masters. (At least they study for four years in Scotland).

In Scotland they also tend to start a year sooner. It's not something I'm particularly knowledgeable about but my understanding was the first year of the four year course in Scotland is more comparable to your A2 year in England than it is to first year undergrad study. Awarding an MA is a slightly unusual tradition that most unis don't follow, but I never thought it was intended to be equivalent to an actual postgrad degree.

MORSE has lots of options and it is very flexible...

MORSE has lots of options and it is very flexible as to what you specialise in.

It offers exemptions, the modules that offer exemptions are exclusively offered to MMathstat/MMorse students - so you need to do 4 years - as opposed to a traditional ActSci. course.

To Qualify as an actuary you need to pass (c. 15) exams, have 3 years documented actuarial work experience and write an essay.

Look up the exemption MMORSE offers, you can get exemptions for most of the CT series. Which would help you become qualified quicker.

The MORSE course is very international. The modules offered are interesting, but 4 years on the MMORSE course would bore me to death because all the modules are basically the same/repeat themselves - be warned it is not a challenging course.

Some things that might have changed since those reviews were written are: (French studies) the Tesco trolleys are set to lock their wheels if you try to take them out the carpark so there are very few trolleys around campus, (Italian) the students union rebuild was finished a while ago, (Maths) I'm not sure if Varsity still do the £1 entry thing since I've never been charged an entry fee to go in there.

I have received offers for Computer Science (G400) (3years) course from;
All offers are conditional. I obtained the required A level results for them all but I still need to take IELTS exam (hence conditional).
The UCAS deadline is getting closer (8 May 2013) and I still can't decide.
