I'm a bit of an excpetion regarding student finance because I get more than basic etc. so I can live off it, but some can't, and a lot of people's parents pay there rent for them. Other than that then yeah it is feasible.
I'm switching to Geog next year, I hated chemistry this year :p

Hey guys. I was wondering if there's anyone here who's applied through the access course for dentistry and been successful? I'm thinking of doing so too so any further information would be helpful. :)

Avtar are absolutely shocking. I have never in my life come across such appalling service.

We were forced to live with mice and damp, and the property was filthy with broken furniture when we moved in. On reporting it, we were completely ignored. When I went in to discuss the mice, I was screamed at by the owner/son of the owner. He is aggressive and vile. The other staff, particularly the women, are snotty and ignorant, they have no time for any complaints and spend their time trying to belittle you as soon as you have a problem.

They repeatedly let themselves into my house for viewings with no warning, to the point where it would be 9am and they would walk into my room while I was asleep, with a group of people in tow. When I got wise to it after this happening twice in one week, I started leaving a turned key in the front door so that I would have to answer and let them in. They on one occasion, physically pushed me out of the way to get in, and on other occasions, such as the time when they had arrived with no warning and expected to be let in, when it just wasn't a good time, shouted in my face before calling me offensive names in front of the potential tenants and stalked off.

As of now they are trying to withhold my deposit from me because one of my flatmates damaged a smoke alarm. It has been widely acknowledged that none of the rest of us had anything to do with it. They have lied through their teeth about our deposit, claiming that it has to be released in one go, when I rang the DPS directly and found that this is a complete lie and that they have no grounds to hold my money, only the flatmate who damaged the smoke alarm's deposit can be held. Their email correspondence has been aggressive, and unprofessional with frankly absolutely appalling spelling and grammar - it sounds like a 5 year old is writing some of them.

I am seriously debating taking them to court. Do not use them.

Heya, I've been looking through the accommodation thread a bit, and having already applied for Charles Morris I'm getting a bit worried because not many people seem to be talking about it or applying there.

It's a good night depending on what you like. I'm into good ale, jazz, funk and interesting bars.

Been on nights out in Huddersfield and its such a boring town. If you just want chart music and the sort of generic clubs and bars you get in Huddersfield then Leeds will be ok on Tuesdays. Call Lane and Albion Street will probably still be busier than Huddersfield gets. Your Vodka Rev bars, Tiger Tigers, Call Lane Socials, etc. Again not my thing though

I like: Sela Bar and Wax Bar, North Bar, HiFi, Nation of Shopkeepers, Smokestack (sometimes), the Reliance, Fab Cafe, Sandinista, Carpe Diem, and Veritas.

I can't really recommend anything until you tell me what you like tbh.

I would definitely recommend booking through the university, the accommodation office are really helpful should you come across any problems and you get lots of support throughout the year as well as the extras mentioned above!

I've got an offer from Leeds and I am applying for accommodation. I heard that you can apply for music places at Devonshire Hall, but I can't find anything about it anywhere? Anyone know anything about this? Do you get asked about it after you apply or something?

Which ones do you like the look of? well to be honest i hated the thought of sharing at first and an en suite was the top of my list in terms of priorities but then i saw the accommodation on the open day and really liked it! plus the location is brilliant and much cheaper than other hallls! so i just thought to myself man up :L

i want to do History and Physics of Science with Physics
(i haven't studied Physics or Mathematics at A-level)

All i want to know is;
-if i pass the foundation year would i be guaranteed the degree
-And would i need to do a interview
on the website is states it's a transfer

Last week I visited all the Unis and was very impressed by them all! However the one that stood out for me was Sheffield even thouh Leeds looked AMAZING as well! It's such a hard decision because I loved all three of them but think I'm going to go to Sheffield. Anyway I wish you the best of luck for the Broadcast journalism course in Leeds because it's really cool, and who knows we might get to meet each other one day (and hopefully we'll both be really awesome journalists aha)

Hi everyone, I'm Chad :) I finally firmed Leeds last week, after much erring between Leeds and Sheffield. In the end I decided I liked the city and the university more in Leeds, but I'll definitely join the student paper as well to get a little bit more diverse experience of journalism.

There's so many things about Leeds I love! The campus really impressed me when I first visited. It's stunning, contained, and really impressive! The staff and lecturers at Leeds all seemed incredibly friendly, knowledgable and helpful - a little more so than at some of the other universities I visited. I also like the city, it's shops, galleries, (perhaps) nightlife and the fact it is literally only ten minutes down the road :D Oh - I looked at all the accommodation yesterday, and would love to get a place at Central Village or if not, Henry Price - though none of the accommodation seemed bad to be honest. I applied last night.

I'd love to work in Broadcasting/Journalism, and have been thinking that way for years now, since I first kinda became switched on to it when I was about 15. I consume ridiculous amounts of media on a daily basis just because I really enjoy learning about a range of interesting things, and to keep up with all the current affairs. I'd also love to be a journalist because of the potential that - when done right - the spread of ideas can literally change our perceptions and make a difference :) Ugh I sound so cliché haha :')

Now I just need to keep revising and working to get ABB in the A-Level exams! I'm currently doing Biology, Psychology, Media Studies and General Studies :).

Looking forward to seeing everyone in September and starting the course!

I'm a first year student at Huddersfield and am looking to transfer to Leeds in September. How likely is that? I have A*A*AAB (EPQ, General Studies, English Lit, Sociology and History) and have received high 2:1/firsts in all of my assessed work. My modules are the only issue. We study EU, Contract, Con and and and Legal Methods.


Also, a friend is wishing to do the same but for Biology. He studied an Access Course and was awarded a Merit Profile but with 25 Distinctions. His University Academics are much better. He is averaging 80% in all of his modules.

Any help would be much appreciated!

Its pretty poor tbh.
Its small to say the least.
There is a bouldering section however again its tiny.

There arnt many routes to do and its not that high.
I would go to Leeds Wall :)

I went climbing at The Edge for weeks with my college climbing club before we decided to go onto leeds wall as there wasnt much variety/room

I'm a first year in GD&C. Most of us tend to work back at our dorms but some will work in the studios or at the computer clusters. I tend work back in my room as I've got all the equipments I need or perhaps at the cafes with some friends. :p

It's not that - it's the French literature side I don't really like. But after level 1 you can choose most of your modules so it's not a problem!

hello, i'm currently in the process of choosing my accommodation. i've had a browse around most of the places on offer in Leeds online. i stumbled across the Opal accommodation when looking at google maps to see if there was any places close by to where i will be studying which is at the Leeds city college campus, and it turns out it's more or less next door! (i think). Also it looks really nice and modern. i'm just wondering if there is anyone on here who currently lives there and could help me out by telling me what it's like? thanks Ash :)
