What about riots in Sweden do you think its reasonable, to burn cars, throw stones at people because they want the Swedish to literally integrate towards the quaran (if that makes sense) Europe have been building everything for centuries, they have been building cultures, have been building economies for the better world, if it wasn't for Europe most of the developing poor countries would be even poorer than they are right now (exports, aids and stuff).. so do you think its reasonable for muslims to enter all them countries and treat them like they are theirs and try to change all the beautiful culture and the Christian religion.. I have nothing against islam, I have many muslim friends I understand that there is poverty in their countries but I am absolutely against them trying to change those countries cultures in any way, and if it was possible I would simply put embargoes on any sign of cultural change practice.

Did anyone see this? I don't think it's a particularly bad idea. Apparently 70% of Israelis want a referendum on the idea of unilateral Israeli withdrawal from the West Bank, which is an idea I'm drawn to more and more.

Could it work?

If what you want is a total withdrawl behind the 1967 lines, I wouldn't get too excited about this. A huge number--almost certainly a large majority--of Israelis who want a referendum on this issue want one so that they can vote it down. As I've noted before on this thread, the disastrous results of the withdrawal from Gaza have pretty much completely discredited the concept of withdrawal. That post is about 10 pages and three weeks back, so I'll repost an edited version of what I wrote there:

To understand the current position and actions of the Israeli government, and the mainstream opinions among Israeli citizens, you need to understand what happened with Gaza in 2005, and since. In 2005, Israel, under Ariel Sharon, withdrew completely from Gaza. The Israeli government drove 15,000 Jews out of their homes in Gaza, and turned the land over to the Arabs, Jew-free, just as they wanted it. Instead of peace, the Arabs elected Hamas, who quickly seized complete control in a brutal purge, in some cases throwing their Fatah rivals off of buildings. After Hamas took control, they started firing thousands of rockets randomly into Israeli towns and cities. Very few people are killed, because they are very poor quality rockets and Israel has sophisticated warning and defense systems, but it disrupts daily life, very severely in some places, and forces people to live in fear, because of course, sometimes Hamas gets lucky. They've hit quite a few schools, thankfully when they were empty, but that's just by chance. They hit my local shopping centre, and one of my students had his family car blown up while parked in front of his house. Everyone has a bomb shelter or reinforced safe room because running for cover is a way of life in the south, since 2005. It's pretty strange if you're not used to it to hear someone describing the new apartment they're moving into, and how it's so nice because this one has a private rather than a shared bomb shelter, and things like that, but that's life. This is in Ashdod, which gets a 45 second warning when a rocket is launched from Gaza, and is only reachable by the larger Grad rockets. In Sderot, which is right on the border, they get barely 15 seconds, and are within the range of a heavy mortar. There, all the bus shelters double as bomb shelters, and children's play structures have shelter sections incorporated into the design. You can google it, but I saw it firsthand because I was actually down there helping out with a dog therapy program for local kids, because a majority grow up with PTSD. The important thing to note is that all of this dates from after the 2005 withdrawal, which was supposed to make things better.

As I said, for Israelis, the results of the Gaza withdrawal, detailed above, pretty much completely discredited the concept of withdrawal. While there were 15,000 Jews in Gaza, in Judea and Samaria, there are 500,000, and the Arabs insist that every inch be Jew-free. Gaza is also historically unimportant to Jews, but the area now called the West Bank contains the heart of Jewish history in Israel, and numerous important holy sites, without even getting into the Old City of Jerusalem and the rest of the eastern half of the city, which the Arabs also claim, and from which they expelled all Jews (and destroyed all the synagogues) the last time they gained control of it, in '48. Then you get into the issue of the rockets. It is widely acknowledged that the Israeli presence is the only thing that is keeping Hamas from seizing power in the West Bank, butchering their Arab rivals, and establishing a harsh Islamist regime just as they did in Gaza. But even the 'moderate' Fatah is committed to the destruction of Israel and the elimination of the Jews. They have publically acknowledged that their push for a state is just a preliminary step towards this ultimate goal. From Judea and Samaria, called the West Bank, almost every part of Israel is in range of the rockets, and the Knesset itself, as well as the Supreme Court, is in mortar range.

This should all give a bit of insight into why Israelis are not so enthusiastic about the idea of withdrawal. Sure, the situtation is not perfect now, but in the areas away from Gaza it's a lot better than it has been and a hell of a lot better than it could be. The big demand among Israelis is not for withdrawal, but for the IDF to start taking the daily rock and firebomb attacks by Arabs on Israeli vehicles, pedestrians, and buildings seriously, and responding with live fire, instead of treating them as protests to be handled with kid gloves.

I'd say it's far more likely to be a poverty thing rather than race or culture. Look at the London riots which kicked off in poor white areas in cities like Manchester as well as Black British and immigrant communities in London

I think the majority of the Riots in England last summer was largely a chain reaction of youths looting stores because 'Life is ard out ere ya get me'.

Abusing the calls for police forces to hold back, scrambling everywhere.

Chinning helpless students, then stealing their Playstation out their rucksack.

The riots didnt kick off in poor white areas in Manchester, it kicked off in Tottenham after a drug dealer got shot dead, then word got out that police were not allowed to physically stop looters, this got around to the other major cities and resulted in youths raiding the local Curry's.

The London riots werent really riots, just a short spell of anarchy.

Not at all.

The Iranian regime is vociferously supporting Assad. Hezbollah has briefly interrupted it rocket firing into Israel, and dispatching fighters to Bashar. Salafist Islamists are gaining strength and financial support via Arab Gulf states ... and the moderate liberal factions are getting f***-all from the West.

The Americans have a neat expression - "you pay for what you get". If you're not willing to invest in the moderate factions; then the opposition will get what they're earnt.

Non-intervention by the West has simply weakened those moderate factions. People were arguing last year about the disparate nature of the opposition. "We don't know who they are" - we know they're more likely to be Islamists now.

I still stand by that point. You can now see a clear break as 'true FSA' and the Islamist factions but there have a always been divides. Even within the Islamist groups such as Al-Nusra Front there a host of different groups many of which have very recently established and hence weak leaderships. There are all bound by a common cause which is to fight Assad government in Syria, the second that is accomplished all those groups will fight to assert their influence and gain power. Those Islamist groups have the goal of creating an Islamist state, even if the moderate powers had a majority as they did initially they were never going to simply roll over come the end and everyone is well aware how Islamist groups operate.

That is before you get into the problem Syria as a country has with grudges and wrong doings going back generations, sectarian divides. Regardless of winning side, the population have divided and grudges. Much like Iraq, those tensions have been held in place by the brutal regime, and played off against each other, in the absence of that overbearing control they will be unleashed. Unless there is an established power there will be sectarian struggles and reprisals.

As I stated in the rest of the point, it was a whole sentence for a reason, power is centralised. Everything of importance is controlled by the regime. Its not divided into largely self sufficient municipalities. Its not a simple change as would be case in a democratic nation, everything is linked to and controlled by the regime. If the regime falls, the system that ensure peace falls apart. In the absence of, as Dirac Delta Function put it, security apparatus, those tensions and the fragmented opposition will lead to violence as there is a driving force and nothing to stop it. The only way you can stop that from happening was a more gradual and 'willing' transition of power from Assad which is unlikely at best.

I think the idea the country is going to peacefully transition to either a democratic state or even a more hardline Islamist state is fantasy.

There is a libertarian phrase that goes "war is...

There is a libertarian phrase that goes "war is the health of the state". It seems to me that it is the reverse. The world is circumscribed into varying units controlled and commanded by a power base whose entire function is to maintain order in their given stretch of land. This is the nature of power which is considered an automatic 'right' insofar as there are no negative externalities. There can only be civilian rights insofar as that narrative is agreeable to the higher orders of government. So, at any given time, your sense of freedom is contingent on a political hierarchy agreeing to it - as affirmed repeatedly across the world (from the IRS/Tea Party to internet prohibitions across the world). The rights of both parties are negatively correlated. The state can only expand at your expense. (Picture a Godfather scene where New York is divided between different clans. Each driven to control their designated areas in the pursuit of power. It's nothing more than that.)

Michael Ignatiff was one of the earliest academics I read to describe the Bosnian conflict in terms of an intervention to secure the rights of citizens. As he put it, self-determination of a national minority. It's one of the great chasms - if not the greatest - with libertarianism, I feel, at any rate. Some libertarians believe that the ideals of freedom, liberty and individualism are worth fighting for - until you hit a national border. Which, apparently, has some moral significance. The internet and contemporary globalisation are the antithesis of a state mentality. They disintegrate the state system as being the exclusive power base.

Is nationality important? --- Nationalism is very important for the state system. It intertwines the state with a certain cultural and local
'patriotism'. "King and country" and so on ... An almost absurd allegiance is fostered in this nationalist mentality to the hierarchy of power. Nationalism would be a meaningless abstraction prior to the treaties of westphalia.

People assume that if you identify yourself using a certain set of beliefs, you won't willingly act contradictory to them. It's the same as expecting an Objectivist to not work in a soup kitchen, or expecting a communist to not attend Mass. If they do go against their beliefs whilst still saying they believe in them, you can't blame people for being confused.

Generally people who follow a religion because they are born into it or are part of a society where the majority of people follow it, the way it's practiced is a lot different than those who have willingly converted into the religion. You'll find a lot of people are muslim/christian/jewish or any other religion because that's the way they were brought up rather than because they consciously made the choice to join the religion

Just like how England has a rich history of being a Christian country but drinking is ingrained into culture here from a young age- from secondary school to university, even though in Christianity getting drunk is a sin. The views of the majority does not mean it applies to individuals- we don't know the "sperm smugglers" personally to be able to definitely be sure they are strict followers of Islam or even if they fully believe in Islam.

I just got through watching the documentary. It's infuriating to hear about the rampant sexual slavery of young boys by the Afghan police commanders. On top of that the International forces are working side by side with these child molesters and are not even prosecuting those responsible. Not even when there is substantial evidence incriminating thosed police commanders. Winning "hearts and minds." :sigh:

Not to mention how incompetent the Afghan National Army is shown to be. Afghanistan is sure to end up in the hands of the Taliban again and I'm not even sure if that's a bad thing when considering how the Afghan National Army operates.

First of all I have read the article. Your remarks are simply disgusting you say impose the idea that we should not have diversity within communities? I think your greatest issue is that you see Muslims as the media sees them. It is completely immoral in even attempting to justify the killing of thousands of Muslims due to the death of one monk (if that is even true, not just another excuse!). But of course numbers don't matter(!) and if this is true I am fully behind agreeing that the act was wrong.

I feel you lack education in this field I recommend that you should study the life of true Muslims not these so called "Muslims". The difference is that the true Muslim acts what he says meaning he practices peace (Muslim means to submit your will to God through PEACE).

Another point I must make is that it was in fact Muslims who brought light into the dark ages. It was they who prevented the spread of the Plague as the westerners lacked cleanliness. While Islam says that cleanliness.
I have much more to say as what you have said has affected me emotionally but I would prefer for you to study yourself from the scholars as it will hopefully have a greater impact on you.
I am sorry if I have offended you :)

Firstly, it is a huge and false leap to infer from what I said, that I impose the idea we should not have diversity within communities. You must be able to see though that diversity only bodes well for social harmony if there is a willingness on the part of the immigrants to respect the cultural values and traditions of the nation they have the privilege to live in.

Secondly, you say I am justifying the killing of 1000s of muslims. False rubbish! - do you know how to stick to the truth without twisting it to suit you? I am trying to offer you an insight that might make you expand your world view into something other than a reactionary - "Let's get muslims from other countries and go and kick some Buddhist asses!" That is basically what you said.

Thirdly, I think most people have heard by now that the ideal muslim is a man of peace.

Fourthly, you say Muslims brought light into (what used to be somewhat erroneously labelled) the 'Dark Ages'. Utter hogwash! I venture to say you would not even know what the Dark Ages were! It is a term derived from something the italian poet Petrarch said about the darkness of literary merits of the post classical age to that of post Greek and Roman antiquity.

Please tell me how Muslims brought light into the dark ages? If they contributed at all, it was from access to the teachings of Greek intellectual heavyweights like Aristotle. The Romans by the way, took the beauty of Greek thought and embraced it in its purity, without trying to change it, but when it reached Muslim scholars much later, as Greek learning spread its way further afield, they felt they had to islamise it to fit with the Islamic world view.

The dark ages, a term which modern scholars avoid for its inaccurate, negative connotations, is really the Middle Ages, a time of plague which brought great suffering, but also a time of a shift in western cultural thought, that contributed a great deal in the way of art, music, scholarship, monastic libraries, divinely inspired gothic architecture, and so on.

It is better to get some facts straight before you start offering advice, misquoting people, and getting all emotional. Emotion clouds reason.

Who are we unable to communicate in the original...

Who are we unable to communicate in the original language and forbidden to learn about Slovak history?
Hello everyone! I'm Slovak living in Nograd County of Hungary. Our ancestors lived here since 17th century. But now because of Magyarization policy there are too few Slovaks remembering their roots and language are left. The majority of young Slovaks call 'New Hugarians' themselves and trample remnants of Slovakian culture. In fact we've survived after huge ethnic cleansing here. Nowadays if you are Catholic and speak Slovakian a little you aren't able to find a job in Hungary. I'm Certified Clinical Research Associate. But I consider Slovak myself and it is written in the statement of the nationality in my passport. By recent Hungarian labour legislation I've become a second-rate man because of my nationality and I can't get job of sciencemanship. You see that is new 'fight with crisis'. But it is very hard to live on street cleaner's fee. Also it is too humiliating. And my wife and I are thinking to abandon the land of our ancestors and to migrate in Slovakia.
Imho with this law Hungarian authorities upend great genocide of Slovaks had been committing from the middle of 18th century till nowadays. Really: No Slovaks on Slovakian original lands within Hungary – no problems.

Since I presume most people here are of Pakistani origin, I would like to ask just how powerful is the Taliban in Pakistan?

Posted from TSR Mobile

Majority of the people are pro-Taliban (afghan). But due to war against TTP("pakistani taliban"), there is much propaganda by army against TTP due to which people are pro-Afghan-Taliban and anti-Pakistani-Taliban. The problem is they don't know that they are infact both the same thing. TTP men go to afghanistan and fight on afghan taliban side and afghan taliban men come to pakistan to train and help TTP. Same thing with alqaeda. they are helping both TTP and afghan taliban.
Vast majority of madrassas and mosques support both talibans (because they are the same people really) and alqaeda and most other resistance groups against the west (like IMU and the ughyur movement etc).
Other than that, almost all Islamic parties support Taliban.
Then there are other militant groups like SSP, LeJ etc which operate pretty much freely within the country, although they are not very active. These groups support taliban and alqaeda directly with funds and man power. LeJ is more of a violent militant type group, which often attacks shia gatherings. While SSP is more of a police-like group which is involved in street level politics, one of their main "jobs" is to make sure deobandi mosques are not taken over by rival barelvi sect(barelvi movements are often found taking mosques away from deobandis illegally).

So in terms of how many people support taliban, they are very powerful.
As a general rule any sunni who prays regularly is 100% supporter of taliban, rest you can say around ~60% of sunni population supports taliban. TTP supporters are much less.

This is what I know. The percentages are not based on any statistics, you won't find any reliable statistics. you have to talk to people yourself for your own little survey.

I stumbled on this arguement on a website and may...

I stumbled on this arguement on a website and may be this isn't the right forum for this kind ot thread but I want you guys to look at this war simulations being presented by these two people and tell me what you think.

andrewza: Since niether side could launch a ground invasion I would not bother to simmult that. The attack would all was loose. Niether side can threaen each other by air either. So this will be left to the navy.

SAN would need some build up for this. But no more than 6 months if money is not a issue. We will need to get 3 of our valour class operstinal. 2 for the attack one for defense. 2 of our subs both for attack. Dransberg will be used once the area is securer. All remaing operstional SAN units will be used for defense. Though attack is highly unlikily it can happen.

Army reservest and activy duty personal will move G5 in to postion near all major ports. This four counter battry fier in the highly unlikly event of a NN ship getting that close. Airforce gripen will be on stand by in cape town.

Dransberg will reposhine to lusaka angola. It is both save and close. Nigeria is close enough that that drakensberg can remain out of the AO.

The 2 valour will harrise oil platforms. The 2 subs will postion them selfs so has too attack any NNS that moves to protecked them. The aim is to draw out any NNS ship so we can fight away from the coast. Thuse it will be a navy vs navy/air not navy vs navy/air/artley. Goal is to use the subs to kill ardu and thunder. They the only threat NN has. Once they gone we need to draw the alpha jets and F7 out. This will be risky but 2 valour frigats could handel them has long has we stay far enough out to sea where they can not use the coast to hide them selfs. The subs will now rsort to covert ops. Deploying SF to harrase oil producstion and to rearm MEND and oth hostile local groups.

Once the skys are clear dransberk can move in a conduct it's own speciol ops missions. Nigeria will quikly agree to our demands at this point.

Internastiol support for either side is not likely. And has long has we don't stay to long the oil disrubsion will not be to great.

nigerian territorial waters is 22km boat sail on the atlantic ocean from its coast/shore, e.g bar beach lagos

assumptions :

south africa will use all is 4 valour stealth frigate warships for maximum sea blockade effect

international community will not attack south african navy ships for blocking world shipping business, especially USA, China, India who have paid in advance for weekly oil shipments

nigeria will not use any of its 12 new AS55O Fennec armed naval helicopters from france on order for anti-submarine warfare

nigeria will not use any of its 4 new stealth missile frigates on order from china and india for anti-submarine warfare or anti-shipping warfare

nigeria will not use any of its 6 israeli sea drone USV for tracking and targeting

nigeria will not use the potential anti-submarine capability of its two ATR-42 maritme patrol aircraft, within the first 2 months of the naval blockade by acquiring the anti-submarine warfare hardware on the ATR-72 as both aircraft are modular built with totally the same technical configuration

simulation :

south african navy sails 4 valour stealth frigates into nigerian 22km territorial waters for naval blockade of oil export

nigeria continues to export gas through the west african pipeline with no disturbance and earns billions of dollars

nigerian navy withdraws all boats to inshore creeks and all ships to harbour

nigerian builds a shield of empty old fishing trawlers, barges, and ships to block all navy bases and harbours from south african navy exocet anti-ship missiles and as decoy to confuse type 209 submarines torpedoes

nigerian navy ships and boats are safe in harbour and creeks behind this camouflague/decoy vessels shield

nigerian airforce jet fighters do not fly while the south african ships are around, all stay at the airport on ground, but alert.

nigerian air force flies ATR-42 surveyors at over 30km away from south african ships anti-aircraft umkhonto missiles. the two planes regularly do sorties and relay exact position and photos of the enemy ships to nigerian army

nigerian satellites in space constantly monitors 24hrs, relaying photos and GPS co-ordinates to nigerian army

nigeria army at night moves 675 towed artillery guns D-30, OTO Melara Mod 56, and Yugoslav M-56-2 to target each south african warships ratio 170:1, that is 170 artillery guns firepower against 1 warship

nigerian army at night moves 100 heavy mobile artillery archer, palmaria, and bofors to target each south african warship ratio 25:1

nigerian army at night uses 675 towed artillery guns to fire shells within range 5k to 22km showering 4,000 shells in one minute on the 4 south african warships in ratio 1,000:1 as 1,000 artillery shells against 1 warship

nigerian air force ATR-42 surveyors and nigerian space satellites all co-ordinate artillery fire accuracy and re-directing for the nigerian army as the south african navy moves to escape the heavy shelling

south african warships if very very lucky to survive the first round of nigerian army artillery bombardment, begin to withdraw/retreat from nigerian waters and the naval blockade fails

south african 4 warships will likely have been destroyed and sunk in the 4,000 shells per minute artillery heavy gun fire of the nigerian army

nigerian army may not bother to use its best artillery guns, the 100 mobile archer and palmaria 155mm heavy artillery, unless the south african ships anchored at distance 30km to 40km away from nigerian coastline, that distance makes a naval blockade very ineffective as other nations international shipping movement will be within that radius too.

south african navy warships are destroyed/sunk or withdraws, oil exports resume with nigerian flat bottom vessels and barges along the shallow coastline to ships and ports linked to the west african coast pipeline
the south african submarine threat is countered by two lines of barges side by side, one empty as shield, one full with oil. the shallow depth routes along the coast is used to prevent south african submarines which will avoid the unkown shallow waters to avoid accidental running aground and damage that can cripple the submarine or force it to surface and become easy targets for nigerian air force 10 alpha jets maritime combat versions guided by 20 augusta helicopter patrols, and 6 G-222 maritime aircraft patrols.

south african submarines will withdraw back home with the valour frigates, or stay the limit of their 50 days endurance, fuel runs low, and nigeria may purchase anti-submarine warfare hardware for its ready configured ATR-42 surveyor maritime patrol aircraft and hunt/kill the south african submarines or fly escort oil export convoys/fleets out of nigerianwaters into international waters

south african navy blockade of nigerian waters fail, and likely destroys south africa's best warships the valour class frigates, thus exposing south african nation very long ocean coastline of over 3,000km to a counter attack by nigerian navy NNS Thunder and the 4 new stealth light frigates on order if they have been delivered by then.

this is how nigerian army will defeat south african navy.

nigerian army will equally defeat south african airforce. i will make that the next post for the coming week.

WRT your orginal question the Euro isn't worth more in some parts of Europe, in the same way Sterling isn't worth more in some parts of the U.K.
You could say a similar point about house prices and net assets between someone from central London and somebody from North Wales.

However them stats are still shocking, the average Cypriot household has assets worth over 3 times as much as the average German household

Cyprus is a tax haven. The median wealth is likely much lower - the presence of a few hundred Russian oligarchs skews the mean much higher. I cannot find stats for Cyprus.

The median net worth in 2011 was 70,000 USD for the Spanish and 55000 USD for the Germans. With a household of two people, it is still much lower the average figure in both countries. The reason is that the majority of wealth in all countries is owned by a small fraction of people. And the reason why the Spanish wealth value is higher is that their welfare state is much weaker than Germany's, necessitating a larger amount of household saving in preparation for contingencies. Other variables are important to consider. For example, Germany's largely rented accommodation. Only 45% of their houses are owner occupied. In Spain, 80% of homes are owner occupied. If you take the amount of wealth the median Spaniard has tied up in an essentially non productive asset, it becomes clear that in any real sense of the term Germans are far wealthier.

Additionally, I wonder how much of the "average" Spaniard's wealth will actually be villas lived in by expatriates?

This morning reports in Syria found the grave of Hudr bin Adi was desecrated and destroyed and the body of the companion of the Prophet exhumed. I have brought this about purely to highlight how such a humanitarian act could be carried out and accomplished without the world knowing. Also, how can such religious heritage be ignored and just taken advantage upon. The world needs to wake up. A body of a human buried for 1300 years is exhumed and his shrine destroyed. But yet, our Muslims around the world don't know of such a character, such a companion. Why? He was the companion of the Prophet. There is no difference in Islam in the belief of Allah and the Holy Prophet and companions of the Prophet are so highly treated, so why isn't this one? Please share your thoughts regardless of your religion and faith system.
Sweden has long been known to have a problem with immigrants and crime, Cant believe we have people on here, yeat again, putting the greater blame for everything on the native populations (for just about everything)

I don't think it's specific to Syria. The reasons systems come into place is because they benefit the people who have the power to dictate terms the most.

If you go against what the people with the power to dictate terms are then inevitably you are destined to fail. The only way systems can be superseded is by collapsing from the inside.

There is no comparison between the colonisation...

There is no comparison between the colonisation of the USA and the ones in african and latin american countries. You obviously know that and if I did expand the discussion we would go on to another kind of thread.

Obviously some adaptations should happen if anything like the world passport were to be installed. I'm just saying that there shouldn't have been borders to begin with. Well, it began. If we can't reach what is know an utopic view, why don't we compensate it? Yes, people are not equal, but they should be given equal opportunities. However, I digress. The point is: the world has no OWNER. And that does not imply that a local culture is bull****. It is not. Nationalism, on the other hand, is.

I like to be considered as a citizen of the world, as well as a member of the single human race. I refuse to be defined by my location of origin, to declare allegiance to any kind of institution that calls itself "the state" and to be confined to the place where I was born for the rest of my life. Most of all: I think everyone should have these rights. Why not? If people will ruin your country because they are poor, we should ask ourselves: why are their countries poor, to begin with? Unless you accept the ridiculous theory that certain types of people are just more envolved and capable than others, you'd come to the conclusion that SOMEONE ****ed a certain place and now does not want people from the ****ed up place to exit it. Nevermind coming from a "bad" place: what if I just WANT TO MOVE?
