Hey, I still have the stock cooler installed for my Radeon HD 6970 card and recently the noise has really been bugging me. Also for the amount of noise the cooler is really not very effective at all and my graphics card regularly reaches some very high temperatures while playing games that are not so demanding such as League of Legends and CSS. I was wondering if anyone could recommend me any custom air coolers for the 6970 that are fairly easy to install as I don't have any experience in installing custom heatsinks onto graphics cards. Been thinking about this cooler: http://www.amazon.co.uk/Arctic-Cooling-A...B0052TIRQI but the majority of the reviews state that it's very tricky to install so I'm unsure about purchasing it.

I think the heat issue might also be caused because the lack of good airflow in my case. I have a Cooler Master HAF 912 mid case but I'm not utilising the area on the side of the case for a fan. What I wanted to ask about this is if I were to install a fan on to the side would I have it extracting air or blowing air in? And would it be a cost effective way of further cooling my overall temperatures?

It's the third suggestion. Yeah, possibly hard drive failure. It was making a mild whirring noise in the weeks before this happened. I'll try the F1 F2 thing on start up later and see how it goes. It's OS is windows XP. Not sure of the model, but it's Packard Bell and I've had it since 06.

I have Celeron 1.6 GHz CPU ... my MSI motherboard can support 4 GB PCI graphic slot and it has 128 Mb built in shared from RAm... it can support 4GB ram in 1 slot (it has 2 slot) and at latest it can support intel dual core CPU.... currently i have no graphics slot , i have 512 mb ram and u know my CPU(see above) .. i can play cs 1.6 and dota(WoW/TFT) just fine but playing CSS laggs my pc and sometimes it crashed... should i max out my CPU and Graphics or do i need to change my whole pc :S:(

Hm, I have never replaced RAM slots on a laptop I have to admit. Replacing the heat sink though, ****ing hassle. I had to remove the keyboard first!!!! And before that the thing that holds the keyboard on and that was so stuck.

That's a different issue than your original post. A drop out at 10:10 every night like that would not be due to VM's traffic management which wouldn't be noticeable with normal web surfing... You would still be able to "load" a normal webpage even if you'd had your speed reduced. My advice would be to contact VM in the first instance if you're not familiar with trouble-shooting connectivity issues.
This sort of problem could have numerous things causing it and to try and give good advice without being in a position to see what your equipment might or might not be doing is nigh on impossible and that's even before pinpointing what may be causing your dropouts. If you ring up VM and choose the option for service faults, they should get someone to carry out basic checks with you over the phone to rule out certain aspects of their network or supplied equipment (such as the modem) causing the problem. If necessary after this, they may book an engineer visit. Be aware that going beyond this with them - such as tech support - can have high call charges so don't get stung and end up calling or getting put through to some premium rate tech support line... The fact that you can presumably use it at other times of the day and you have noticed a specific time when you're losing connection or unable to load any websites may indicate a setting somewhere that may be causing this but, like I suggested, it's all guesswork so ring your ISP first to at least rule out a fault with your service.

Honestly, there's loads of conflicting info about robtex, some seem to suggest it's a kind of network hacking tool, others speak differently, I'm not so sure.

My little sister who's only eleven has got her own laptop. The other day she came into my room all upset because her screen saver had changed to a picture of a naked old man (lol). She insisted she hadn't changed it or downloaded the picture so I ended up looking through her laptop and I found a file full of porn. She insisted she didn't didn't download it (she's the only person who uses that laptop) so I did a virus scan and there are over 33 viruses! How do I get rid of them? AVG isn't working on them, a few are Trojans. I've told her not to use her email because I'm worried it will hijack her email or something but I really don't know how to go about getting rid of so many viruses!

Would anyone recommend a good video editing software? I'd like one that is similar to iMovie (actually, I just kinda want iMovie but I'm not allowed a Mac). Is there a software out there that it really similar for Windows?

I have Windows Live Movie Maker but it's much more limited as it doesn't have very many options in terms of titles, transitions, etc and also doesn't have as much functionality like cloning and green screen effect (I don't really need green screen effect though)

I also have Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 which I use but it's a little too complicated for my liking. I am learning how to use it but I would prefer a more simpler software with presets but it still not too limited (things like placing a picture over a video track, cloning, creative titles, etc).

I'm also not willing to pay.....I'm broke :/ Lol.

I know that's pretty specific but does anyone have any recommendations? Or if you just use a software that you like even if it doesn't meet what I've said above. I would be REALLY grateful for any replies. Thanks in advance! :)

So I've just put my entire dissertation into a single word document. When I try to save it it doesn't save. It will save the title of the document but it says 0KB and when i open it up there's a blank page. I still have my dissertation open but it's still called "Document1" and I can't save it!! Any help would be appreciated it's in for tomorrow!

I thought it might be because the file is too big. But I have my friends dissertation all on one document and it's a lot bigger than mine

You get the full program. Well, you get two licenses of it - So you can use it on two computers (Mac or Windows or one of either) but may only load the software up at any one time on either. You only have to connect to the web once a month just to validate the copy, then you can stay offline or take your computer somewhere else and use it.

You get to keep the files, they're yours. You can still edit them and use them, just not in the copy of CS6 you have (because the licence will have expired), but you could still use them in GIMP or on another computer somewhere.

You will have the option to carry on the plan, just work out which is cheapest for you.



I wouldn't buy it right away though - Adobe are announcing changes to the system and they seem to be getting rid of the physical copies of all the discs they sell and requiring people to use Creative Cloud instead. It seems they're offering plans for single-software editions (so just Photoshop without buying it in a package with other programs) for ~$10/month... Although that might just be for existing customers. If not, $20. Have a read up on it.

Could anybody offer any explanations as to why a wifi network - in it's entirety - would collapse when you try to connect to it with a device?

My phone (HTC One X, all up to date), my iPod (Touch, up to date software) and iPad (again, up to date) all cause the home wifi network to go offline and require a reset at the router before it will function.

Other devices (kindles, laptops) work fine 100% of the time, but they're downstairs within line of sight. My devices are upstairs (one storey, conventional house, no unusual stonework) and all cause the network to fail.

What on earth is going on?

I do agree with comments on this thread though. The average joe may not see the extra money worth the potential gain. I do think they can help speed up older models compared to buying a new machine.

Same thing happened to mine a bit ago (grabbed it with a wet hand :$) and I thinks it's part of the power circuit for the backlight. If yours doesn't have any light coming from it in a dark room then it's probably the same as mine and unless you're really good at soldering tiny things it's dead.

Go to (Tools > Options > User Data) and add a first name and last name. It saves a different position for each user and if there is no name it assumes that you are a new user and don't have a position saved.

I would never buy any mac, but this is patently false. Since you said 'Apple computers' let's think about the macbook - it has an excellent battery, a glass screen and a metal body. The build quality is high.

The vast vast majority of non-apple laptops are not made from 'the exact same parts' as this. Say what you like, Apple do seem to consistently use high quality parts.

At least try to have a balanced opinion. If people want to pay a 200% premium for said stability, fine. That's their call.

There is a difference between just turning the computer off with the power switch on the front and disconnecting the power (pulling the plug, turning off the switch on the wall). When the mains power is still on but the computer is off with the power switch on the front it's still drawing a small amount of power. However in that case I think the risk of fire is higher than the risk of costing any real money (and the risk of fire is pretty low).

Personally I don't consider the power usage that much (unless it's going to be stupidly high). For a system with a higher power usage (and I've used workstations that need the higher power version of the standard IEC lead) the bigger concern is generally the noise of the fans. With a 450W supply at normal usage it's probably pulling around 150W and I'd hope it's peaking at around 350/400W if you're hammering the system. A new LED monitor is probably <50W (Looking up my iiyama screen it's rated at 24W and I think that's a CCFL screen rather than LED).

I recently got a new laptop and needed to install office on it obviously so I could work on assignments. I couldn't afford buying a disc and my sister (who I don't live with) said I could use hers. It's worked and it's installed but will this pose problems with her version of office?
The disc does say not to lend to anyone and I've heard that you can only install office a certain number of times and only on your own computers in your own household. How would microsoft even know if the computers weren't owned by the same person?
I'm running win8 but the office version is 2010 home&student - I think my sister installed it on her desktop and laptop - I'm hoping that me installing it on my computer won't affect her version! Can anyone shed any light on this?

First thing first, Update your browser or switch; this can be the first and only issue which it preventing you from view the notes.

2nd Update Java, seems obscured but many browser scripts use java since it's almost a universal computing language.

3rd Update that silly flash software, seems logical to do so.

4th Change your desktop resolution. This could be preventing your browsers form using space. (higher resolution for better results)
