Hi! I've just firmed Birmingham but I'm a bit worried about the size of the campus. I was choosing between Birmingham and Leicester (which is a lot smaller and more comfortable) but chose Birmingham because I preferred the modules. What are the lecturers like? Are there always people around the train station and bus stops? (Bit worried about being on my own in a city I don't know in the dark!) I'm also worried that as it's so big I'll feel intimidated to use facilities like the library, gym, cafes etc.. am I just being dramatic lol? :)

The whole campus is very intimidating at first, and you'll probably experience some immense apprehension in the first week, but you'll look back on it and think it was the best time of your life, even if you don't enjoy the first week experience at all. I HATED moving into my flat; having to live with one of the most horrible human beings I've ever met was not very nice. In fact it was traumatising, and it took me AGES to make friends, but despite all that I would kill to re-live the whole freshers experience and have those amazing, overwhelming, exciting feelings again, even though part of it was horrible for me...

The only downside about the campus is that unless you don't mind 45 minute walks, it's not within a convenient range of the city centre, although given that Birmingham isn't the prettiest city, you could argue that that's an upside. It might be the second biggest city in England, which is what attracts many people to Birmingham in the first place, but you won't have that nice, busy city feel if you live on the Vale. In fact you wouldn't even realise you're in a city at all. I'd rather be in a place where everything is on my doorstep and buses aren't needed, but that's just me...

Hi it's Georgie here. Nice to meet some possibly prospective course mates! I've just received the letter from UoB to go to the interview for PGDipEd Spanish with French and I'm well nervous! It's taking place on Thursday 27th of this month and would love some advise from those of you who have already attended or anyone who wants to share their views.I'm a Spanish bilingual native speaker, however my French is not terrible but my pronunciation...c'est pas fantastique! I would like to know how much should I worry about this towards the interview. What kind of exercises should I expect and when should I take this literacy and numeracy skills test? I've applied by the end of May but still before 1st of July. I'm not too scared for literacy but I'm defo crap at maths. Thanks everyone in advance :)

You can't tell me what to do. Stop acting like you're the authority.

Yeah but you probably have an awful sense of humour anyway. You probably watch American sitcoms like Big Bang Theory because you find it funny, so your opinion doesn't even count. You're lame, and square. Often, it's a result of studying far too hard and selling your soul to a curriculum that's just evil and elitist. But don't worry. 99% of TSR users are like that. Completely warped.

I was in fact being honest, and expressing how I genuinely feel. Why would I help someone come to a university which I personally dislike? That's just stupid.

Offending people has nothing to do with expressing your opinion about university. Simples.

Is there anyone that does Philosophy at Birmingham?? If so what grades did you get?

Or in general do you think Birmingham will accept me if I drop one grade that isn't that important to the course (the A is in philosophy and ethics) ?

Edit: Title says and Birmingham University, I meant at :$

Well to bring up one of those ever useful tables,...

Well to bring up one of those ever useful tables, Birmingham is joint 11th in the THE Student Experience Survey 2013, and Leicester is 26th. It uses criteria and views of what is important decided by students.

Being a student here I am no doubt biased, but part of the reason I chose to study here is because of the city, as it's really lively, and great for students. Birmingham has one of the best campuses I saw when I looked at unis; a nice safe environment, but well linked with the city, so it's easy to go in for whatever reason. I've really enjoyed it so I'll be staying in the area after I graduate. There's about 200 societies, and lots of events on campus, like Vale fireworks and Vale fest, so there'll be something that catches your interest.

Josh how do you know its a popular course?
Jskely, actaully the graduate prospects for when we graduate are quite high. We are likely to get employed by the top 4 accounting firms in the UK (kpmg, ernest and young, etc) after we graduate because UoB has good links with them. What grades are you sitting on right now? I was offered AAB, but I think i'm only going to get ABC.

Hi, I'm currently taking my GCSE's and i wish to study Dental Surgery BDS at the University of Birmingham. The entry requirements are linked here: http://www.birmingham.ac.uk/students...urseDetailsTab

It says I would need Chemistry and Biology GCSE's at an A* grade, however I have already taken one of these GCSE's and I am strongly doubting whether I would get the mark. Would they reject me straight away seeing i don't have A*'s for these two subjects?

Here are my predicted grades:
Physics: A*
Biology: A
Chemistry: A
Maths: A
English Lit: A
English Lang: A
Spanish: A*
DT: A
IT: D(distinction OCR diploma)
Geography: B
RE: B

Also i realize that the University of Birmingham would be an excellent choice of university as they have access to the Dental Hospital, what other universities would you recommend, that are not too far away of course, I live in Birmingham.

help :(

If they say you must have A*s in GCSE Biol and Chem, then they will reject you for not having met the entry requirements - sorry to say.

Hi, I'm a prospective student, and I've firmed accounting and finance BSC at the University of Birmingham. They gave me a offer of AAB, but said they were willing to consider ABB should I miss my offer slightly.

I was just wondering if there are any students studying accounting and finance at the university of birmingham who just missed their offers but were still allowed to study there? Plus how popular is the course? I think I'm only going to manage to get ABC (320 ucas points), which is short of the AAB (360 ucas points) required.

A bit of relevant background info on the course its ranked 33rd for accounting and finance across the UK.

I would just like to know, so I can have some peace of mind.
