Question for the guys here (or girls who want to answer on behalf of their guys xD)

Just curious about how most guys maintain their hair now-days - I personally shower everyday and use a shampoo, then conditioner for 5 mins. I have quite thick wavy hair which I have to straighten.

This seems to leave it with good thickness/volume once I've blow dried it but occasionally it will turn out a bit limp if I don't let it dry naturally long enough. Do most guys with medium length/straightened hair go for this sort of routine, or do you find washing less/using different products ends with better results?

It often depends on the person. My hair used to be quite fine but now it has grown a lot longer (mid back) and it is a lot thicker than it used to be. Volumising shampoos work well. Alternatively, some people's hair looks thicker when it is shorter. Just depends on the person really. Really straight shoulder length fine hair with no shape is not a good look though, particularly if you are tall and skinny as well.

So basically around last summer I dyed my hair a dark purple and after that, for about a year now i've been dying it a dark red.

My natural colour is a light mousey brown and I want to be a chocolatey brown now, so i've been trying to dye it a chocolate brown but the red is still coming through every single time which is infuriating. I want to try this colour b4, i've heard amazing reviews!

Will it take me back to my light brown or go a gingery brown? (I dont mind because i'll re-dye it the brown I want) I just want to know if it truly does strip the dark redness away, despite how thick my hair is.

Is it worth it?

Considering how dark your hair is, bleaching it won't take it all the way to blonde anyway (I don't think, I know it wouldn't with dyed brown hair).
Bleach isn't that bad for your hair as long as you look after it and don't over use it. If you haven't dyed it within the last couple of months, you'll be fine.
If you don't want to bleach, you can get non-bleach blonde dyes, it just won't be as powerful. Don't Henna over blonde though, it doesn't take (it just turns you green, bad times :/)

I dye my hair A LOT and have bleached it more than most people should, and still have decent hair!

the only reason why dry shampoo isn't good for your hair (which no one really tells you these days) is that it blocks the pores in your scalp as it's so fine the powder clogs up those pores that need to remain open to absorb natural oils/conditioner/shampoo etc to maintain its health!!! ideally you should only be washing your hair twice a week - not every other day! otherwise your hair will look like straw/synthetic hair as it will produce so quickly and not even the good oils!
My hair colour varies so much depending on the lighting, if my hair is clean or oily. up or down. Tends to have a pinky hue to it also. I've lost count of the amount of times people have asked me if i've died my hair red or blonde since they last saw me ( many times it was the previous day). i love my hair colour now, but being a 'ranga' back in school makes for an easy target.

Helloo

I'm thinking of dying my hair this colour or something similar (I have very dark brown hair now)

I was just wondering if anybody actually knows what the name of this colour is or any hair dye kits that is this specific colour please? :)

Also, because I have dark hair I was wondering if I would need to lighten it in any way to get it this colour, and also how difficult it would be to get out if I changed my mind.

Thankyou :)

My U6 Leavers Ball is at the end of June, and I've got the dress sorted.

I'm going to see my hairdresser soon, and whilst I'm there I'm going to give her a picture of the dress and some photos of what I'd like to do with my hair.

My hair is light brown, wavy, and mid-length (a few inches past my shoulders).

I was maybe thinking old hollywood style waves, because I usually curl my hair for nights out and it would be nice to do something different. Do you guys think that that sort of thing would suit the dress?

waves like this: <img src="http://www.thestudentroom.co.uk/attachment.php?attachmentid=214155&d=1368028925&thumb=1" border="0" alt="Click image for larger version.

Hey guys, need your help.

I am naturally black haired and have had red highlights for about 9 months. Never bleached but the colour really seeped in and its still redish now. I'm thinking of changing the colour of these highlights to either blue or violet. Planning yo do it on my own cause hair services in UK is so expensive.

Wondering what will happen if I dyed my whole head the intended colour? Would the highlights be the only parts with real effect as they are lighter in colour while the black parts just stay mostly the same? Or does it depend on what kind of dye i use? Am really clueless about this and would appreciate any advice at all. Thanks! :)

I'm not a hair expert myself but have gleaned a few tips from more knowledgeable friends. As for keeping it back when exercising, you could wear a thin headband/alice band(Accessorize do thin ones that are plain if you don't want something more elaborate) i.e
http://uk.accessorize.com/view/produ....12/3860430100

I have these but in navy black and red (my hair is collarbone length but it works just as well with short hair, when I had mine short)

This doesn't guarantee straight hair but there are many straightening serums you can apply either to hair before straightening(or to damp hair and just leaving it but that may be less effective)

i.e http://www.wantthelook.com/shop/prod...FU3KtAodx3QAkQ Bumble and Bumble is expensive but there are of course cheaper options, this one I mentioned as I have used myself after borrowing from a friend before a night out. In a rather warm club my hair stayed straight which seems good for me.

There is also Frizz Ease 'three day straight' which I saw in Tesco the other day when I buying some shampoo but I haven't tried that.

I am also looking for a new, cheap and cheerful salon. I have tried free model haircuts, it works well and they are very cheap, but it takes time.

I used to go to the Vidal Sassoon Academy at Bond street for a model hair cut, which is only £5 (£12 otherwise) but it takes up quite a lot of time and you end up with a haircut which depends on the skills of the student, even thought it's supervised. Sometimes you end up with NVQ2 students, sometimes you get "Top up" or "master course" students, clearly it's a better option, as these people are already hair dressers and they come to the Academy to learn the special Vidal Sassoon style cut. If you want a bigger change, it could be a good option (also they dye hair too, you pay extra, but it's still reasonable). I guess it's quite popular, for my recent appointment I had to wait for 3 weeks..

Here are the details:

Monday to Friday: 9:30am & 1.30pm
To make an appointment call: 020 7399 6903
48 BROOK STREET
LONDON
W1K 5NE

I used to go to another "famous" salon to Hari's in South Kensington. They do a model haircut for free. Unfortunately they no longer cut long hair, I haven't been there for a while. They do cut really classical style, which felt really 70's to me, but if it's good for all these famous people I shouldn't complain myself either (they say Pierce Brosnan is a customer).

Offering FREE haircuts

Male and female models

All lengths

Experienced 3rd Year Trainee's

All training supervised by top senior stylist

Colour also available from £20 : Highlights & All over colours
Model appointments at both Kings Road and Brompton Road from Monday to Thursday both daytime and evening. Please call 0207 581 5211 (Brompton Road) or 0207 349 8722 (Kings Road)

Better late than never!
Yeah, I have known a few girls use the Lush Henna and it works very well, though do be warned, it is really strong and will ruin your clothes. However, it doesn't come off and stays in your hair for an insane length of time. The colour can come out auburn'ish, but because henna is somewhat slightly uneven in colouring hair, it looks completely natural and you can't tell it is dyed.

I've no idea about using colour before using henna though, so you might want to do some R&D into that just to check

Thanks for the reply.
I did it and it turned out pretty good! It's a bit light, but because it's good for your hair I'm just going to do it again to darken it up a bit :)

Also I was expecting it to be much messier than it was! It is actually less messy than normal dye because it doesn't stain immediately, only if you leave it. Smells pretty bad though :p

But I'm sure there wouldn't a noticeable difference...you would probably get the same results from massaging your scalp as often as you can, cheaper too! :-)

Thanks, I was thinking of it but one of my friends uses it and his hair is really weird and hard (possibly using too much?).

Could you recommend any good ones please?

Yea, using too much makes your hair go hard and crispy. The thing about hairsprays is using one that doesn't smell too pungent or overwhelmingly strong. I recommend Garnier Fructis crystal resist hairspray.

Just remember to spray it 20cm from your hair so it actually sprays instead of being concentrated in an area (which can causes the hardness).
