I've got a standard maths offer for entry this september. It's A*A*A or A*AA and a 1 in any STEP paper or distinction in AEA. This is a pretty crazy offer, but us maths students are in fierce competition I guess!

At AS I got an A* in full Maths standard A Level, an A in Physics and a A in Theatre Studies (different, I know). This year I'm doing the full Further Maths A level, and completing both A2s in Physics and Theatre Studies.

I also had to provide my UMS scores for my maths modules to UCL when I applied, any questions, just ask!

Frankly there isn't going to be much difference between the top London universities, it's like the old Oxford vs Cambridge prestige (though certainly Imperial would be better for computer science in London). UCL does appear higher than KCL in pretty much all league rankings in the UK, and the real clincher for me is.... it has more nobel laureates affiliated with it (27) against KCL which is just dry of geniuses (only 10).

Just wanted to ask, is there a specific student house that most medics stay at?

I just had a quick look at the syllabus for you and it looks very, very much like the UCL course. Based on their relative league table positions, I'd say you probably made the right decision overall. But KCL does seem to offer a very similar course so I think you'd be fine either way.

Thanks again for answering Torvus. Like you said, with the range of Core subjects and pathway modules too it looks like there will be a lot of different skill sets to flip between in each area. Was that something that was hard to adjust to, or on the whole did you find you adjusted to this way of working quite quickly?

There are 15 UCL Libraries, loads of reading rooms.Senate House Library is an incredible resource and it's essentially 'on campus' and we've also got the British Library 10 minutes walk away which is a deposit library like the Bodleian but has the added benefit of incredible exhibitions on a very regular basis.
The UCL Special Collections are often overlooked as well as they're tucked away in the basement of the science library but there's actually an entire team of conservators who restore incredibly valuable books.
UCL students have access to all of the libraries in the University of London for free (Kings, LSE etc.) through the inter library loan system.
I would say that the claim made is a pretty formidable one - with all those resources you're going to find what you need and then some.

Hi All,
Basically long story short I submitted my application for an MRes at UCL last night. It said thanks and you should shortly receive a confirmation email. I looked this morning and there's still no email. I thought it was like an automated system and I would get one.
I know I'm not expecting an acceptance letter or anything but just something to say the application went through would greatly help my nerves.
Shall I just call up the department and ask?
Did this happen to anyone else?

In the Uk, dentistry is both undergraduate and postgraduate so you can apply straight to uni or you can do any sciency course :)

Just wondering, considering how utterly impossible I am finding it to cope with the workload at Cambridge, whether it is naive to imagine that things would be remotely more manageable if I was to transfer to UCL (especially considering the Guardian ranked UCL above Cambridge for my subject [English] in 2013).

Nope. Just the one.

You'll also get just one degree and one grade (ie you just get the MSci, rather than a BSc and MSci).

Same with BEng and MEng programmes.

my igcse grades were good all A*s and a few As but my AS grades were 2 As and 2 Bs which isnt up to the standard of ESPS and i dont think my predicted grades were good either but i had a good personal statement so i got invited to the assessment day where i sat the TSA and had an interview, was sure i did well in the TSA (they don't tell you your score however) and i guess i also did well in the interview because i got an offer. this is for the esps dual degree by the way

Ahh that's good to hear I'm planning to start mechanical engineering at UCL from this October hopefully it's turns out to be good. The prospects for mechanical engineering looks good also!

I think postgrad study depends on whether you did full or partial economic spec. So, I wonder how grad prospects would also vary?

The only options which were really presented to me relevant to the Vikings were apparently a module on Old Norse and a module on Viking Studies in the last year (though apparently they are quite broad?) - I wanted to focus on it more consistently. Perhaps Edinburgh's more 'general' approach just wasn't for me. Shame really 'cus I loved the city and the feel for the university. The Scandinavian Studies department seemed really lovely and passionate too, but as I said, the problem was more with the history department.

Hmm I guess that is true. The guy I spoke to at Aberdeen said that UCL and Edinburgh's Scandinavian departments weren't in great shape either, so I am just worried something awful will happen and they cut Norwegian or decide to focus only on modern Scandinavia.

would anyone be able to give a full list of the languages available or is it a bit variable?

The Law department is located in Bentham House. This is where all the academic offices are, as well as some lecture theatres which are set out lik a real court room.

You can find it on Endsleigh Street, as you can see on this map. http://www.ucl.ac.uk/find-us/

However, this doesn't mean that all your tutorials and lectures will be there. They may happen in different tutorial rooms and lecture rooms all round campus.

Thanks for your message - much appreciated! I'm still confused though,as I'd looked at the timetables previously as suggested above, and the timetable that came up (https://cmis.adcom.ucl.ac.uk:4443/ti.../routeTimet.do) seems to show there are lectures/classes/ lab time Monday-Friday, 9-5. So I'm grateful to you for getting back to me and would be really grateful if you could let me know if you're doing the course, and how much time is planned in and how much does not have specified times.

My job involves working specific hours and I don't want to give up good daytime shifts, but will need to if the free time doesn't coincide with shift time.

I'd be really grateful if you could let me know how it's worked out for you at UCL.

When paying I accidentally entered the wrong amount and some how ended up paying double what I should have. I emailed UCL last week, no reply. Checked my online banking today and they'd taken out the full amount. They'll have to pay me back, right?

It's for ESPS. I applied for the Dual Degree between Columbia and Sciences Po so i couldn't do it for UCL and Sciences Po.

Nope i havent heard anything more from them which is slightly odd but hey ho if it means dodging the language bullet im fine with it :p did they send you a letter or the like asking about it after the initial offer holder pack?
