I don't normally use anything for my face, just a face flannel, but I've noticed guys using facewash and moisturiser. Does it make much difference to your skin and appearance?

And if so, are there any you'd recommend, I'd be happy to spend 40 quid on a moisturiser if it makes a great deal of difference.
Cheers

As for foundation, I'm pale and the laura mercier one I use is a great match and doesn't look too orange or anything, just blends well into my pale skin.
Sorry I haven't replied sooner to this thread! Completely forgot about it and didn't receive any emails! D:

Since my last post, I visited a Mac counter & a Nars counter after reading several reviews on the Mac Studio Sculpt foundation, and the Nars sheer glow.
I got matched at both, had it applied on the Nars counter and it lasted the rest of a (very stressful) shopping trip. On the same trip I got matched at MAC, and took home a sample to use. Which I applied several days and each day I found that it didn't last very long on my skin at all and within an hour or two it wouldn't seem like I had any make up on, even though I'd applied a primer and a powder (in the hope it might help with the lasting power). I have since purchased the Nars Sheer Glow foundation in Mont Blanc and I LOVE it! :)

I now apply using the real techniques buffing brush after purchasing the core collection kit.
I'm now seeking a good primer, if any of you have a recommendations? I currently use a very cheap MUA one.

Hi :-),
I've never had to shave/wax/use hair removal cream on my legs - the hairs are very blonde and fine (kind of like the kind of hair that everybody has on their arms), but I'm getting a spray tan tomorrow and I've been told that they work best with no hair. However, I don't want to shave my legs as this makes hair grow back seemingly thicker and darker, and I'm wondering if hair removal cream will have the same effect? I would hate to have to start shaving my legs daily after just removing the hair once.
Thanks

Moisturise where you need to! Everyone's skin in...

Moisturise where you need to! Everyone's skin in different so you'll have to find a method that works for you :) I've never heard of using a brush and I'm not sure why you'd need it, just make sure your hands are clean before you apply your moisturiser. If anything I would suggest not using a brush as they can accumulate bacteria :)

To know what type of skin you have just see how your skin changes throughout the day with no makeup on, if your skin gets oily at all then you most likely have oily/combination skin (combination is where you get mostly oily around the t-zone and have normal to dry skin everywhere else)

If you do have oily or combination skin remember moisturising is just as important as if you had dry skin! Just make sure you use a lighter/water-based moisturiser :)

Hope that helped!

I used to have similar skin, its cleared up since around last september I'm not sure whether I just grew out of it but I've also started drinking lots of water and I use a mild exfoliant every day. I use bio oil at night just because it takes ages to absorb and its really helped to fade my scars! I use aveeno moisturiser during the day because its light and leaves a really light film which acts as a barrier between my skin and makeup so I dont get foundation/concealer in my pores and using that regime my skin has improved dramatically :)

Hello! I have combination/oily skin and I worked at LUSH over Christmas as a sales assistant. To be completely honest, I didn't rate any of their cleansers. I tried Dark Angels (too scrubby for my sensitive skin), Herbalism (broke me out badly) and Coalface soap (too harsh). I've also tried Angels on Bare Skin, which also broke me out. However, I bloody love their toner waters. The tea tree one is fab for combo skin, especially if you're prone to breakouts. Breath of Fresh Air is also lovely for pepping up the skin a bit. Enzymion is a nice moisturiser for oily skin, it's quite light, smells delicious and sinks in quickly leaving a matte finish. Their face masks are really nice, if you go in store then they'll happily give you some samples. Another star product for me is Mask of Magnaminty - this balances my skin and reduces the size of any spots almost instantly, I love it!

If you have any questions, let me know! Major lushie here. ;) x

thanx! i really wanted to try the tea tree toner but wasnt to sure how it would compare to the body shop tea tree toner (which i've got now)does it remove dirt and stuff really well? cos i think thats my main problem as i do a lot of sport and im always doing something active :/ have you by any hcance used the lush grease lightning if so what do you think of it?? is it really good?

I'm 18 and I've not got the best skin. I don't have acne and usually it's just about once a month my skin kind of flares up and I get loads of spots and then it calms down a bit, saying that I've always got at least a blemish or two. It's a bloody nuisance but I usually wear make up if I'm going out so it's bearable. What's really bothering me at the moment is that I also get spots on my back and all over my body like my arms and legs. I don't know why but I get so self conscious of them and always try and hide them under clothes (probably making them worse.) Also because I can't see any spots on my face unless I look in a mirror the blemishes I can see on my body mean I'm much more likely to pick them and make them worse. Very not good.
Any advice would be very very much appreciated because I'm so self conscious.
Thanks!

You should try the Avon skincare range. I had very bad skin. I'd get breakouts every other day and they were very inflamed and uneven. The set contains salicylic acid, and it works a treat. It took about a week before I noticed a difference, but my skin went down dramatically and now my skin is almost perfect. Zinc tablets have also been proven to reduce breakouts, so pick up some of those from a supermarket too!

Foundation is really for coverage, although there are dewy/lightweight versions around. BB creams are good for creating a dewy effect - they are however more difficult in terms of matching skin tone. I haven't much personal experience with tinted moisturisers however they may be the perfect stating block to decide whether you need more coverage (probably the least coverage of the three)

I would say - look around and find products which match your skin tone and your skin type. Experimenting is really the key to finding what works best for your skin and what you prefer to wear on a day to day basis. Obviously this would differ for special events where you may use a product with higher coverage :p

Good luck! :)

It's interesting how your thoughts went straight to acne as a result of covering your body in paint as opposed to a slight case of death via suffocation.

Joking aside (if it's water-based) then you should be alright, but even so I'd recommend leaving a portion of your body unpainted so your skin can still breathe.

I had this issue for a long time and it was so depressing.

I now use 'Simple Blackhead eliminater' on my T-Zone every morning and evening as it has Zinc PA which apparently absorbs excess oils as well as clearing blackheads which can be a result of oily skin. I then use 'Simple oil balancing exfoliator' which I use every other day and it just gives my skin a lovely, fresh look. I then use Simple oil balancing moisturiser every day too.

I've been using it for 6 months now, routinely, and I don't have oily skin at all any more, it's smooth and blackhead free.

If you wear make up, switch to a BB cream which is oil-free or has oil absorbing products in it, and check your makeup wipes too, I've had some bad reactions to some fragranced ones/cheap brand ones. I like Simple, they really are my favourite skin care brand!

I've dealt with A LOT of different doctors/nurses about my acne over the past few years and I've found the best way to get new treatment is too simply play up the mental anguish it is causing you, how it gets you down and causing confidence and self-esteem issues. Usually if you rattle on about that they'll give you want you want. Too often they wanted to keep me on medication that clearly wasn't working after months and months but I finally got my derm referral and roaccutane after badgering them. You've just got to be persistent with them.

I'm medium/dark skinned indian girl with horrible dark circles, so I need a corrector but im not really sure which colour to get from the bobbi brown corrector collection :( ... my shade in Elizabeth Arden foundation powder is 04 if that helps ... I don't want to end up buying the wrong one as they are quite expensive and I can't try them because they don't have a bobbi brown counter at the Debenhams I go to, so if anyone can help or say which colour they wear it would be helpful! ... Also, kind of off topic but does anyone know where you can buy the brand 'w7' makeup in London?

I usually just mix and match for the colours though, at the moment I've got 5 colours on - Milan (darkish glittery pink); 60 Seconds Rock Princess (purple); Sally Hansen Hard As Nails Rave Review (dark silver); Natural Collections Topaz (light shimmery blue); and Maybelline Express Finish Aqua Electric (shimmery mid green-blue.)
They all look nice together :D

I don't think they're worth the hype, if I'm...

I don't think they're worth the hype, if I'm honest. They're meant to be "all around skincare" working as a primer, moisturiser, sunscreen, foundation and I just don't think they do, at all. I find they tend to lean either towards a primer or a foundation. I've heard good things about the Urban Decay Naked BB cream though, so that might be worth a shot.

I'd rather buy a light coverage foundation or a tinted moisturiser. A tinted moisturiser that I like in the summer is the Laura Mercier one, good colour range and has an SPF 20. It is a bit pricey so is more a splurge item, but I find tinted moisturisers hard to buy, the consistency tends to be very strange.

Mascara always smudges on me! I think it depends on how oily your skin is.

My best strategy is just to buy waterproof mascaras and also dust a small amount of powder under your eyes at the start of the day to absorb some oil.
Waterproof mascara isn't too much of a pain if you get a good eye-makeup remover. Garnier do a good one :)

Hi,

Don't know if this is the right forum but will post here none the less!

I'm going to Egypt and need some advice. I'm pretty pale but want to make the most of the Egyptian sun and get a bit of a tan.

Has anyone got any tips on the best way to go about this, do I wear Factor 50 for first couple of days then work down to 30 or what? Heard some people mentioning carrot oil which is really good and protects you? I'm a typical guy and don't have a clue about this sort of thing so would appreciate some input from people that do :)

Thanks, Mike

To be honest I would protect your skin as much as possible when going to somewhere like Egypt :yep:
You could go down to F30 if you really want to, but I personally wouldn't go any lower than that, and depending on how long you're there for i'm sure you'll still catch a tan.
Remember skin damage lasts a lifetime !
