As I'm currently a first year student as well, I have also been considering a year out in industry. Compared to other universities the University of Leicester doesnt have good relationships with businesses, but having said that, the polytechnic universities, normally have the best industry links due to their history, etc. However that does not mean that you cant take a year out! The university has a fantastic Careers Development Service which helps a MASSIVE deal. So when you do start I really do recommend engaging in any events they hold or any other extra circular stuff! At the moment, the economics department is encouraging students to take years out, however you need to fit all the requirements. At the end of first year you have to have an average of 60% (or something along those lines).

However, no one can stop you applying to internships! All you gotta do is apply and hopefully you'll be successful but you still have some time yet! :)

As far as I can tell postgrads tend to end apply or get put in in the City halls like Queens Court if you apply for halls.

I'm currently looking for people to room with for next year and am in the city for checking out properties, when i'm not working over in Kenilworth anyway.

If anyone has questions about accommodation in Leicester I can try to answer them since I've had to go through it already with undergrad.
