Hi everyone,

Just starting out on this...So...

Hi everyone,

Just starting out on this...So far I have failed to discover any threads related to International Development at University of Leeds. I met the criteria last August however I deferred the offer due to suddenly realising the time just wasn't right to move away and carry on studying. I am now very eager to start and I would love to hear from anyone who is currently studying ID or who is to begin this academic year.

I have now booked in for Opal 3 after falling in love with the location and the general newness. Its obviously a big deal moving away from home and normality however it is just 90 mins max on road for me. Despite this, accomodation is a huge deal for first year and this place just felt homely as soon as I stepped inside to view. It would be fantastic to hear from anyone currently in Opal 3 as once again I have failed to see a lot of discussion about 3 and instead, Opal 1 and 2....
:)

Bf is an ex boxer and he dislocated his jaw as a...

Bf is an ex boxer and he dislocated his jaw as a teenager and according to him that made halted his jaw development. He says that it messed up his facial symmetry, teeth, nose, jaw, etc.

I REALLY don't notice it unless I stare at his face for a solid 2 minutes but even then if anything it's pretty minor and I don't mind it at all. He's fine 90% but of the time but sometimes you can sense that he's a bit insecure about it.

Anyway I had to leave the country for a few weeks and when I came back he had a full on short beard because of exam stress and laziness and I was SHOCKED at how much it suited his face. It brought all of his good features out while masking the "bad" ones. That was the first time I'd seen him with a beard and I couldn't get my hands off him

Another reason I loved it was that he just seemed so much more confident and I could sense that he wasn't insecure anymore. BUT then he shaved it off today... and just kind of laughed it off when I told him to grow it again. I have ways of getting him to grow it again :$ but wanted to see if anyone has experience with bearded men? How does it effect your face in the long term in terms of kissing?

Men, have you noticed a difference in how women and just society view you when you grow a beard? bf claims that a beard wouldn't look professional but I don't think that's true as long as it's kept clean right?

this is how big it was pretty much maybe a tad longer
I am organising our school prom this year and need some ideas as to cool things we can have - everything else is sorted: food, venue, decorations etc. and so I now have £368.94 left to spend on something 'cool'.

I toyed with the idea of having a pick'n'mix style idea? Set out in nice bowls/display things :)
I received your note but you cant go onto other peoples property and take things, that's trespassing. Massanutten is a wooded area and I installed that light for security. It's a safety issue. I can't help it if some of the light goes across the road, close your curtains if it bothers you.

Hello Justin,
Thank you for your email. While I accept that curtains are usually the key to community accord, in this instance they would need to be constructed of eight-inch-thick lead sheeting. Last night, with my curtains closed and bedside light off, I read a book. Wearing sunglasses. Under a blanket.
Though unconvinced that blinding local fauna is the best solution, I do understand the heightened need for security living in a wooded area such as the gated community of Massanutten demands. Having formerly lived my entire life in Australia, I am unfamiliar with much of the local wildlife but I did see my first raccoon last week. I stepped outside to have a cigarette and the raccoon, sitting less than five feet away beside an up-ended bin eating the remains of a Domino's Artisan Tuscan Salami pizza, hissed at me. Surprised, I threw myself backwards, rolled several times toward the door, and sprang to my feet holding the welcome-mat above my head to appear taller. Sometime during the roll-spring-mat manoeuvre, probably during the roll part as it was over gravel and I was wearing shorts and a thin t-shirt so I had to take it slow, the raccoon left. Which probably isn’t as exciting a story as it should be but this isn't Borneo and I’m not Jack London.
I did see a snake the other day though. I picked up a stick to poke it with which also turned out to be a snake. Jumping back in panic, I threw it away from me, but our dog thought I was playing fetch and I had to run and jump over a creek to get away.
As such, this weekend I intend to set up a canister of poisonous gas in my yard with an industrial fan behind it. I can't help it if some of the gas goes across the road.
Is that meant to be a threat? Put something up in your window if you don't like the light, we lived here 5 years before you even moved into the neighborhood and got along perfectly with Ryan who lived at your property before you. We went to his BBQ's and I loaned him our mower. We get along with all our neighbors. I dont know what you people do in your own country but in this country we dont go onto other peoples property and touch their stuff.
Dear Justin,
In my country, terawatt globes are reserved for police helicopter chases and warning sailors of hazardous shoals. This is despite the fact that practically every living creature there can kill you in under three minutes. Our primary spoken language is screaming.
I'm not surprised you get along well with all the other neighbours. If you put fifty children with Down's syndrome in a room there is going to be a lot of hugging.
And no, it was not a threat. It was an exaggerated response to an uncompromising stance. I was taught never to make a threat unless you are prepared to carry it out and I am not a fan of carrying anything. Even watching other people carrying things makes me uncomfortable. Mainly because of the possibility they may ask me to help.
I did consider installing a floodlight as bright as yours, but this would require some form of carrying things, electrical wiring knowledge, and access to a power supply capable of producing that amount of wattage. Probably fusion. As I am told off by my partner for wasting money when I leave the light on in the bathroom overnight, I can only speculate to what her reaction would be to an electricity bill eight times our annual income for retaliatory garden lighting. She would probably have to get a third job.
It would be much cheaper to stand in my driveway and throw rocks. I can't help it if some of the rocks go across the road. You should probably put something up in your window.
Dear Justin,
No, I did not take the light again. I relocated it again. Its current location may be discovered by deciphering the following set of clues to its whereabouts. Perhaps you could invite your friend Ryan over and treat it as a kind of treasure hunt:
1. It's in the letterbox again.
2. Look in the letterbox.
As I realise this probably won't narrow it down much for you, I will give you a third clue in the form of a riddle:
What burns with the light of a thousand suns and is in the letterbox?

I'm not sure if anyone watched Britain's got talent a few weeks ago but this riled me. A Nerdy looking contestant invented something called the laser harp. Every component of this device was created and programmed by him and to be honest he wasn't a bad player. If anything i think that even if you didn't like the act the invention of the device deserved some recognition.

Amanda's story "i think that its too nerdy"
Britain is nerdy Amanda not sure if your castle has heard?
I would welcome another opinion on this matter :P

Routine - Wake up, go toilet, switch off alarm clock, brush teeth and wash face, get changed, put on watch and wallet, get something to eat and drink, wear jacket and shoes, go toilet again and leave the house.
To go Work or School?
Time Taken - 15-18 minutes, it would be longer if I have to wash up the plates which I use to eat, but my mum does that for me.
Assuming it you can't store it to use after the hour, and once you've used some of it, you can't ever get it back, however any investments you make you can keep.

Also, that you know the time, a week in advance, that this hour-long period starts.
If you think an hour is too short for anything awesome, what about 12 hours?

Also had little read beam coming out of the front of the cockpit (night vision aid?)
I FAR prefer boobs, and my gf is pretty top heavy in that department. Boobs are the best creation since those salt and vinegar Walkers baked crisps- remind me to buy God a beer sometime for such an ingenius creation.

OH MY GOD. SERIOUSLY. How super-****ing-human do exam boards think we are?

I can't memorise and understand the whole course content for four subjects, ok, I just can't. I've spent a substantial proportion of this year being taught by two god awful teachers who have no right to be inflicting their 'teaching' on anyone. I'm damned if I turn up to their lessons and I'm damned if I don't.

I spend MONTHS looking for a tutor who can help, only to finally find one who tells me "wow it's awfully late to be starting revision!" Ok love: 1)I've been revising anyway, 2)I've been trying to find a tutor, it's not my fault NO ONE WANTS TO TUTOR THESE CRAPPY SUBJECTS, 3)You can have your money and never come back because you were useless anyway.

I have NO motivation left. I actually, genuinely, prepare for a deep dark secret here, used to like learning. I did! I got a kick out of it. It was fun! Now? Now I'm learning to please some stupid, over-objective mark scheme. I just want to go to uni without actually losing the will to live in the process!!

In the slight chance that our child is a male, I thought I'd ask TSR what they thought of these boys names.

Dorian Hugh (Little posh, but the names just go so well! I adore Dorian.)

Sebastian Edward (Although, admittedly I'm not too keen on Seb.)

Rupert Orson (I adore Orson, but I fear its a little too unusual for a first name)

Rafe Quentin (Again a little unusual, worrying about how people will pronounce Rafe)

Harrison Edward/Hugh/Orson/Quentin (It'll be shortened to Harry of course, but I'm not too fussed.)

Also, I'm a little inclined to give him two middle names, but it may be a bit too much of a mouthful.

If he's a girl, then we've narrowed the names to:

Amelie Diana
Ariana Diana
Arabella Diana

Thoughts TSR? Anymore?

Advice on cliques needed.

I deeply apologise if this is in the wrong forum,...

I deeply apologise if this is in the wrong forum, I don't really know this site well yet. But I really need some advise on something sensitive to me. Its about school cliques, going beyond stereotypes (Nerds, Goths, Jocks).

Basicly I'm just coming to the end of my first year at college, when I first started I found it dificult to make friends as I was quite shy. But I slowly learnt that a majority of the college was divided into cliques due to sporting interests, financial staus and so on...

Eventually I discoverd one of the cliques shared the same interests as me, we dressed with formality and enjoyed talking about clothing brands, the current economy and so on...

After having a few conversations, I was enthusiasticly accepted into this clique and I slowly learnt more about "Who to avoid" at first it seemed quite nice, as we like the same clothing, the same music it was great. Although since joining I have been told by old friends that I can sometimes come across unintentionally snobby. Although this didn't seem much of an issue.

But gradually, over time, I have discoverd that other friends and members of the clique seemed formally inplolite and even verbally hostile towards other cliques (Such as African-Americans or Dungeons & Dragons players) and I was even suprised at my self ocasionally for slowly seeing my self and my clique as being somewhat better then them.

Now I am fairly well off financially but. Joining what I first thought was a group of friends has changed me negetivly. The turning point was when there was some clash in the courtyard. Some people from the art department (Neon hair, tight leather clothing) Seemed to be in an argument with some of the other people from my gorup. After it dispersed and everyone was walking away, someone else from my Clique span round and called the other person "Under-class Trash" and I laughed, I actually laughed at this.

Later that evening I felt almost ill, I couldn't belive what sort of thing had happened. It is outragouse to adress someone due to financial status. I couldn't belive I actually found it funny. I felt aweful. But the problem was I don't have any other friends in the college so I went back the next day and continued as normal.

some people have their favourites that they use a lot a lot!

Would a smilie usb keyboard be an amazing invention?

so you'd have a second little keyboard that USBs into your laptop and it woudl sit next to your typing keyboard.

the smilie keyboard woudl have a key for every main smilie and you can map different similes to different keys. Or it could be touch screen and you can scroll through and select the smilie you want just by touching it.

Yay or Nay :)

Alright,

Wherever I go I always seem to find myself in the middle of this social stigma. When I meet new people or volunteer somewhere I seem to get on fine but when they find out that I go to a local private school they treat me completely differently as if I am an outsider. On the outside I don't have a posh accent at all and I bet no-one would could directly point out that I go to a private school and only manage to go to it because of a large bursary offered by the school. I don't see why this should be a problem, but why is it? I hope I haven't offended anyone or try to generalize most people but it would be great to have some opinions from TSR on this problem.
Many thanks,

Right so I'm pretty short male, I measure myself...

Right so I'm pretty short male, I measure myself officially at 5'7 3/4 (172cm) but everytime I measure myself I keep getting different answers.

Now I know this probably sounds like a case of OCD. But I'm interested because I'm not sure if I'm measuring myself properly.

What I mean is the way I stand, I kind of give myself a military posture, standing out straight feet together with my chest beating out, but is that cheating?? Because I'm not sure most people measure that way, I could be a lot smaller if I wasn't. Am I meant to be relaxed??

I stick a box over my head and use that to measure, I'm usually near 5'8 with this method.

Also in the morning I tend to be taller, like 5'8 or above even, but then decrease through the day and if I measure myself too many times I tend to shrink each time, like recently I only just measured over 5'7 1/2 because I've done my back in so many times.

Like I say massive case of OCD here I know, but I'm just curious about what is the correct measuring method, and when to measure.

Anyone??

Do you ever stop and wonder at all the things that are happening right now? . . . . Or now?

All over the world just think of everything thats happening: lots of people sleeping, having sex, being born, dieing, getting married, commiting crimes, commiting kind acts, praying, eating, fighting, working, learning, preaching etc etc obviously some are more interesting than others.

Does anyone ever do this and try to even comprehend how many people are doing each?

Hey everyone :p So basically it's the last day ever for the year 13's in our college and we've decided that we can't be a boring year group and need to start thinking of pranks we can pull off! We've already decided to take the clocks (it's a tradition done we can't break) and we've thought about stuff like using water pistols and bombs on people in the playground, and pouring buckets of glitter down the staircases and on people (nightmare to get rid off) but we really need some more ideas! If you have any awesome or killer ones please post them! Thank you :)

If someone was to offer you £1million in return...

If someone was to offer you £1million in return for putting your life at risk what is the highest probability you would accept? I asked my sister this and she said 30%. I was shocked at how high she went, I'm not exactly sure what I would accept but probably somewhere around 1%. What would be your limit?

Edit: Ive just thought of another question although this is even harder to answer. What probabilty of death would you accept for the person you love most in order to get £1 million? Im sure people will say none but a probability like 0.0000000000000000001 means it is never going to happen so you would have to accept that. That means there must be a probability that is the dividing line. They dont find out you risked their life.

PS. First we want to go somewhere like a pub that we can drink and then we'll move on to a nightclub.

If you have any other ideas except clubbing (such as concerts on 23th ) let me know

Gonna make this short as possible.

Friend got me to by 2 iPhone 4S on contract from different shops and diffrent networks. I used my details and bank card. He said he will cancel direct debit and sell phones abroad and split cash between us. I gave him both the phones and the paperwork. He said any letters you get, give them to him.

When i got home, i had this feeling that something is wrong or fishy. I researched online and about cancellations and saw that you can only cancel if you have paid all the monthly payments. But if you bought the phone within 14 days and not used the phone or sim then you can cancel it. So i told him about this and he said just give me the letters you get, i dont know what he will do with the letters. We bought the phones yesterday and he said everything will be sorted by Monday.

I dont know what to do, please help. I know it was a stupid thing to do but i want to get out of this scam, i have never been involved in anything like that, it is my first time and im scared.

So, I think I'm having a pretty bad week,...

So, I think I'm having a pretty bad week,
Someone to rant with would be appreciated.

So, I've had a hectic week working and volunteering and on Thursday, I had to find a way home from a workshop I was teaching. So to get home, I had to find a trainstation. I remember seeing a sign for a trainstation on my way there so walked untill I could see one. I'd been walking for ages and finally realised I am probably going the wrong way so checked on Google Maps on my phone. Turns out I went the opposite direction completely so I had to walk all the way back. Did I mention it was ******* down with rain?
Anyway, finally found the worst trainstation EVER and got on a train I had to wait ages for.
Turns out. I left my wallet on that train. And the train company wont return it for up to 15 days because lost property is sent in bulk.... Great. Then...
Last night I was doing a closing shift (8pm-4am), I hate this shift as it is but I am also doing the closing shift today! (9pm-4am).
So two closing shifts in a row.
But, I arrive yesterday and there is a note asking me if I'll do 12-7 during the day instead (rejoyces) as someone has offered to do my night shift.
I start celebrating.
30 minutes into last nights shift and the guy that was supposed to be covering me tonight bailed and no one else can cover it for me...
And my gf's all pissed of because I promised her it was covered so I could spend the night with her.

Anyway, I sat down this morning after I woke up to unwind, dialed my old phone number to access my voicemail (because some people still call my old number),
And oh great. a missed call from a potential long-term employer has left me a message because they were trying to contact me all day on Friday. Now I have to stress and stress until MONDAY worrying that I've lost the job...
PLUS, I still havent got my wallet back....

I have a bad habit of generally not wanting to sit down, so, I usually stand or walk around a small area.
Don't know why, I just do it sometimes.

Some people chew pens, others right/doodle and others ever eat for the sake of eating.

Has anybody heard of this site? It's hilarious!

It basically loops any youtube video...well....forever without the touch of a button!

Example:

http://www.youtuberepeat.com/watch/?...feature=relmfu

When you're on Youtube, you just type in repeat after the 'youtube' part in the URL and you're done until you die (presumably that'll be in some 80-90 years).

Would people please shut up with this bullsh!t?...

Would people please shut up with this bullsh!t? What's the average age on TSR? It must be about 15, and yet it seems that in every other signature I see pseudo-inspirational quotes about how we should all follow our dreams and do what we love and the like, and it's a load of crap.

My ambition is to become a chocolatier. Unfortunately I realised this somewhat later than was sensible, thus smoothly bypassing most opportunities for proper training. As a result I am rediscovering/self teaching the art of chocolatiering for myself. My plan is to open at some point my own business just for the sake of having something to my name to get someone to hire me. As a result, I will have to go through all the pitfalls of opening my own business without even planning to have a business at the end of it. I will probably make a loss on this business, which I will have to judge whether I can afford and which will subsequently affect my credit rating for an indecent period. At the end of it, maybe nobody will still want to hire me. Simultaneously I have a long term girlfriend, and I have to ask myself how my plans are going to affect her - I am happy to put myself through it, but I don't want to take her down with me. I am following a dream that at times seems impossible because the fact is that in all reality, it might well be so. The world isn't some fairytale in which everything will suddenly come together for me at the end, I could just as well come out of it bankrupt.

There is another man in the chocolate industry called Willie Harcourt-Cooze who in his mid twenties was travelling with his wife in Venezuela when he fell in love with a cocoa farm there. He tried and failed for six months to buy it whilst living with his wife on a beach (somethign that sounds romantic until you actually think about it for 3 seconds). He then moved back to England and bought it two years later, now with children also, and moved his whole family out to Venezuela for several years. He eventually came back to England and attempted to create a chocolate bar business using the beans he grew. He eventually managed to make the bars but in the process faced imminent bankruptcy twice and his wife is now leaving him because he was forced to put everything he had into what he loved just to make it work. He followed his dream, but along the way he was forced to give up his home in England, all his money and his family.

I feel I have digressed from my original point - perhaps you should think about what you're saying before you quote a single sentence from someone rich and middle class about following your dreams. I was 15 once, so I remember how easy it seemed but take my word for it that reality is considerably more difficult. You don't just waltz into the world and take what you want as if it owes you success. You have to begin by assessing how much you are prepared to sacrifice, and if it comes to anything less than everything then you should accept that failure is a possibility. It annoys me when I see people who have never had to face a problem bigger than saying they'll go to a party for someone they don't like throwing around platitudes as if other peoples' struggles have been trivialities. I am not saying you shouldn't follow your dreams, I'm just saying that you shouldn't give stupid advice on it when you have no actual experience. The world is not as easy or as forgiving as your quotes make it sound and the reason it seems hard to follow your dreams is often because it's ridiculously hard and will probably end in failure.

So yes, follow your dreams, but also be realistic. And don't post stupid platitudes and quotes when you're still in highschool.

Using Student Card With Expired Passport To Get Into Nightclub?

Hi, the only "valid" ID I have is an expired passport. It's been expired since August last year, and I haven't had any problems getting into a nightclub with it. However, I live in a town, so I'm assuming they're more lenient compared to bouncers in places such as London.

However, I was planning on going to Norwich at the end of the month to meet up with my friend who goes to uni there. The problem I'm facing is that I don't know how strict the bouncers there are, and I don't want to get a train all the way there, only for me not to get into a club.

So, do you think if I took my student card with me, just as proof that the person on the passport is me, I would have any problems?

I was planning on getting a Validate UK card, but I've seen a few threads on here that say they're not accepted that often. Anyone know if that's still the case?

Thanks :)

Today I was sitting on my sofa, stroking my cat,...

Today I was sitting on my sofa, stroking my cat, when out of the unexpected a genie shot out from his backside. After seeing a look of satisfaction on my cat's face as if he had just taken a behemothic dump, I asked the Genie why he had taken my cat's belly as his dwelling. Apparently he couldn't pay the rent for his old lamp so was forced to move out.

Anyway, the Genie granted me 3 wishes, so here I am carefully planning each one.
After thinking for a while, I decided for my first wish I'd quite like a well aged stilton - possibly a nice roquefort if I'm feeling adventurous.
Then for my second wish I thought it'd be pretty funny if Justin Bieber had taste buds in his anus.
For my last one I fancied the idea of being able to shoot good quality whiskey from every orifice of my body, the possibilities are endless - I can bottle it and sell it, drink it whenever and wherever I want etc. But I didn't want to be selfish, so I decided I'd wish this for everyone after realising how it could solve most worldwide problems: thirst, war, you name it.

So thinking about how they ask it in the movies and on tv I was about to say
"I wish everybody in the world was able to produce an everlasting supply of whiskey from every crack and crater in their body".

But then I thought is this wording correct?
Surely if say "I wish I was able to do X" then the word "was" means in the past tense. So if I say I wish I was able to fly, does that not mean the Genie would give myself in the past the ability to fly (of course my past self would not know my future self had been granted this wish and would not realise I had this power) and thus rendering my wish useless.

I know that Genie's are known for being sneaky and I'm sorry for being pedantic but I want to make sure this all goes to plan and would appreciate if someone could help me word this correctly, especially if they have had any past experiences with a Genie.

I'm currently competing my controlled assessment for GCSE Citizenship. However, an aspect of my project requires me to find views of others, which i must further record in my project. The title is pretty self explanatory, I'm covering whether CCTV is a breach of privacy.

My project needs opinions of others, so i would really appreciate some of your views on this topic, be that anything!
- The average British citizen is captured 300 times on average every day.

I was in a maths lesson today and my friend hit his hand rather awkwardly on the table, and shouted 'ow' straight away.

Then, all of a sudden, the thread title came to my mind.

So, why do we say 'ow' when we feel pain/discomfort straight afterwards?

-do we learn it from childhood
-involuntary response
-other people say it, so we say it too?

Do you say 'ow' when you feel pain?

Odd question, perhaps :holmes: but really would like to hear your opinions :)

Hey guys;

Well, I just want to know what the...

Hey guys;

Well, I just want to know what the general trend in eye colour is on TSR. I ask because I know brown is the most common eye colour, next being hazel, then gray, followed by blue.

Brown: Usually people of east Asia, Southeast Asia, South Asia, West Asia, Oceania, Africa, Americas, etc. as well as parts of Eastern Europe and Southern Europe orientation.

Hazel: Hazel is common amongst people in America and Europe, while rare in African, Middle Eastern and Asian people.

Blue: Blue eyes are quite common amongst people, especially those born in Germany, Netherlands, Iceland, Austria, Sweden, Norway, Denmark, Finland, and Estonia.

Gray: This eye color is related to low melanin in the iris and is related to scant pigmentation throughout the body (like pale skin, light hair, etc). Gray eyes have been found to reveal small amounts of yellow and brown color in the iris. European people, belonging to countries like Russia, Finland and the Baltic States, often have gray eyes, while those in Southeast Asia rarely have this eye color.

You then go into the rarer eye colours which include;

Green: Green eye color is amongst the rarest eye color, with only 1-2% of the world's population born with green eyes. The reason for green eye color is the production of moderate amounts of melanin. People born in Northern Europe and Nordic countries (like Iceland, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Norway, Germany, and Netherlands) usually have green eyes.

Amber: Amber eyes can be defined as the ones having a strong yellowish/golden and russet/coppery tint. The reason behind amber eyes is the deposition of ‘lipochrome’, the yellow pigment, in the iris. It is a very rare eye color and also known as ‘wolf eyes’, since amber eye color is very common in wolves.

Black: Black
Black is amongst the rarest eye colors in the world. Most of the people who appear to have black eyes have, infact, extremely dark brown eyes that seem to be black.

Well, what is yours? :D

I'm not sure why. Yeh it makes my handwriting look a little childish but I don't like just dotting them because it doesn't look as nice.

My parents say stupid things sometimes. They tried to argue with me over which hands to use for a knife and fork. I'm right handed but I use my fork in my right hand and my knife in my left. Apparently this is "wrong" as well

My friends and I got into a discussion earlier...

My friends and I got into a discussion earlier about how we often accept things we see on the internet at face value. They said 'if google decided to announce, for example, that Australia was only 300 years old, and made up some semi-plausible argument for it, then a lot of people would believe it'. I disagreed and said that something on that magnitude probably wouldn't be believed, but they argued against me using the example of the 'google doodles' that state when it is the anniversary of someone's birth, which are often quite obscure like artists who are not that well known. In times like these, we obviously accept that google is correct, and not many people go and check from sources other than the internet that this is true. Therefore, if google did spin an elaborate lie like the first example above, would people be duped or not? Would how intelligent a person was make a difference, or would everyone fall victim to it?
Discuss!

Apparantly my household is 'among those specially selected to recieve this notification of britains new special edition legal tender 2012 £5 coin.' !!! :# Am I right in thinking that they actually got sent to every house?

At least you do only have to pay £5 and no P&P . . .

Are they going to replace £5 notes ie will any more £5 notes be made? And will the coins continue to be made?

I heard a while back that there might be £5 coins mass produced so are these special edition coins the start of it, or just a few collectors coins being made?

I'm a chemical engineer-wannabe and I've gotten offers from UCL and Manchester (I'm an international BTW). Alas, as I have been unsuccessful in scholarship applications thus far I am really keen on approaching some private chemical/engineering-related firms to request for sponsorship. I have no knowledge of this sort, so whatever I have been doing is just a list of things that I think should be done in order to get the ball rolling. I have:

1. Downloaded the T.H.E. Graduate Employers' Rankings, and googled for chemical/engineering-related companies in Malaysia (one of which was schlumberger).

2. Prepared a formal letter addressed to their Manager of HR Dept., and a proposal is currently in progress.

3. Been asking for friends' parents or acquaintances to keep an eye on possible "benefactors" (i.e. companies who are willing to sponsor students abroad, etc).

So far my progress on the first two have been rather slow. Mainly because I myself am not sure of how the format of the proposal should be -- I based my proposal with the proposal of the academics club in my college -- and I don't exactly know what am I supposed to do with the rankings I have obtained.

I would appreciate if anyone could shed a light on this. I am not going to let go of my UK dreams without returning a couple of swings. Thank you!
