Thanks for the rep. Have a great day.
Ha yeah think we are all in survival mode, good luck with the book
No idea unfortunately don't know what I want with my life, what your plans?
I know where has to this year gone? so much has happened
Good question lol not even thought into next year never mind the next 10 lol
Tell me about it, nearly 32, scary really
You don't want doctors and lawyers, boring as (I'm joking, my gf'a a medical student, I'm a trainee lawyer). Sure if you email WGHS or go to an open evening they'll explain the proceure with bursaries (much more common now due to a change in the rules on charities and tax in 2008) and scholarships.
I'm 90% certain this would be the Catholic school for your diocese/whatever it's called, as I know quite a few people from Barnsley (centre, Darton and Royston) who went there through Greenhead, but best to check with your priest. I think it's pretty good, they all did well as did my friends from Wakefield who went (now a teacher x2, final year medic x2, final year at LSE, trainee lawyer, physio and journalist), and it's on the Barnsley road. Incidentally nearly went there myself as I'm baptised Catholic (Irish grandparents!) and it's just down the road from my old school.
I cannot imagine having a one year old now (tbf me and gf are still, just, students)
Is Netherwood the one that used to be Wombwell and Foulstone and they got put together? Yeah, you'd definitely want to check that one out unless they've got some superhead in, and I've not heard of that happening to be honest.
In terms of other schools nearby/accessible. Private it's got to be WGHS if you put your daughter in for the bursary/scholarship. However, from what I gather from friends WGHS, and QEGS, are now much more bursary focussed, with scholarships being more badges of honour than significant fee reductions, and if you have household income below 40k and she passes the standard entrance test you maybe eligible. http://www.wgsf.org.uk/wghs-senior/a...ndation-awards
The other private is Silcoates, not particularly academic and much more difficult to get to without a car (it's over near Outwood), but might be worth a look.
Alternatively you could have a look at Kettlethorpe, it's the nearest Wakefield school to Barnsley and gets decent results, whilst also using setting quite heavily. The top 20 or so kids generally go on from there to Greenhead in Huddersfield and normally a good 6/7 of them win 15th Oct places with the rest going to solid unis. Me and my sister both went this route and did reasonably.
Hope this helps a bit (my extensive knowledge of South and West Yorks secondary edcuation picked up over dinner, both parents teach, is normally totally redundant!).
Hmm good point, I may have to find a new sig
