Sorry the PM I just sent is so formal - has to be that way for dissertation ethics purposes

Hi, I saw on a random forum thingie that you do German and Philosophy. I'm on a biology degree atm but I think I'm going to drop out because I hate biology and have always wanted to do German but lots of people said I shouldn't do it because you can't really get a job in it. Anywayyyyyyy, I think I'm going to do German and Philosophy at Nottingham uni next year, but just wanted to ask, do you find the course interesting? Do you think it's a good combination? And do you know if there are good career prospects? Sorry for the random message!!

i like that you study German at oxford

I approve immensely of the musical tableaux in the 'scary music' part of your signature.

Great thanks for the boost of confidence! Also, I've broken into a little German philosophy (Kant and Nietzsche) and was considering putting down some on my Personal Statement. How would you recommend I go about wording it?
Also, how many books would you recommend that I put down on my PS?
Thanks so much.

Hey I see you're studying Philosophy and German at Oxford! Well I'm planning on applying to read German at Oxford this year (pending AS results). Anyway, I got 7A*s and 2As at GCSE, studying German, Maths, Economics and Politics for AS and I get the impression I'm not the strongest of applicants!
Merton strikes me as being a very competitive college to get into - do you perhaps know of any less competitive colleges at Oxford?

What a brilliant interpretation! It's brimming with bacchic imagery. John Stump couldn't have played it better himself. Though I still don't quite get what "spam" means. Would you have any idea?
-
I can't wait to get back to Merton as well! Oh well, just a few more months to go, assuming that I get the grades.
A Levels are fine. I'm just getting on with all the Maths papers I have no hope of doing.
That is a fine piece of music, if you forget all about harmony learn to embrace cacophony. I think I might take my hubris further (after trying to sight-read the Pathétique Sonata) and have a go at it. Oh, look, someone's already done that: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QkjX7Q-b1IM

- About me
- Um...I'm me. I don't really know what you want me to put in here.
What I can tell you is that I spend far too much time procrastinating on t'internet (facebook and TSR especially!) and should spend much more time working/practising music (see below!)
Actually, I feel like I should write something more. Maybe it's because I've just handed in/done all my work for this week and it's the end of a stressful day and I want to do something different to Brecht or logic! But yes, I study Philosophy and German (hence the Brecht and the logic!) at Merton College, Oxford, and am having a great time here! Any questions about the course, the college or Oxford in general, or indeed if you want to have a chat about pretty well anything feel free to PM me and chances are I'll respond within a few hours (I never seem to be away for that long...)
Things I like:
Classical music (see below)
Philosophy
Good spelling and grammar
Cute guys (I might as well admit it here! )
Conversations about completely random things that go on well past my bedtime
Things I dislike:
The sort of music that has no tune and goes thud thud thud, except in a club environment
Bad arguments, mainly from politicians
Bad spelling and grammar - especially text speak
Creepy people
Meaningless, shallow conversations that go "hi how r u gd gd wuu2 thts so kl" with stupid people.

- MUSIC!
I play flute and piano and have got grade 8 distinction and then diplomas in both. I'm in a gazillion orchestras and bands and stuff (ok, not quite), but most notably Birmingham Schools' Symphony Orchestra and the Academy Chamber Orchestra.
I LOVE Classical music, especially Romantic stuff, and my favourite composers include:
Rachmaninov (he did his seconds the best!), Elgar, Tchaikovsky, Beethoven, Shostakovich, Stravinsky, Chopin, Debussy, Ravel, Dvorak, Sibelius and Wagner
