  1. Hello Mark,

I would like to try and apply for a PhD again next year. And I'm wondering
whether I can contact prospective supervisors without a prepared in advance research proposal. This year, I did very precise research proposal and maybe it didn't give much flexibility for academics.
So, I'm thinking is it possible just to write them email and say that I'm interested in their research topics and ask them in which topics they are interested. I asked this question on TSR and got the answer that it's common in physical sciences. But, I'm mainly specialized in social sciences.
    So, I'm just wondering...

It will actually facilitate the whole PhD process after I definitely find out which topics they will be interested to supervise.

    So, what do you suggest?

    Thanks!
  2. You're a mathematician, right? Family members in the legal profession?
