Bonjour encore! Sorry for the late reply! I've had a lot of work to do recently, and I have to admit that I'm easily influenced so your belated reply didn't help! ¡Qué desastre! Espero que nous puissions hablar asà - me gusta mucho.
Ah, I'm glad you had a really good experience at your university! I actually originally applied for Italian and Spanish at Edinburgh because I wasn't so sure on my French, but then after doing the exam I decided that I was capable and that I was worried for nothing! En plus, I didn't really want to take two beginners' languages (Japanese was a must ), so French it was! Spanish was always a definite (you can probably tell by the fact that my messages have more Spanish words than French in them ).
Thank you! I really do love my course, but I wish it was as flexible as yours in the sense that I could take Japanese alongside my Honours' level courses. Since my degree is 'French and Spanish' I can't go to Japan for my year abroad unless I change my degree. I've considered it but I'm not too sure about job prospects. En cualquier caso, I'd continue my Japanese even if I didn't formally study it! Do you have any non-European languages you'd like to learn?
What were your year abroad experiences like? What did you originally want to do, and what did you end up doing?
I was also wondering what your university courses were like? Mine are mostly literature and historical/political based which I really like (the former, mostly ).

Aww thank you for the wonderful message! The many loves bit made me very happy Francamente, gracias.
Certes, ¡de acuerdo! I don't know if you do, but I love changing between languages during chats: et toi?
Ah, I see! So you're basically A level standard for German and Portuguese and you specialised in French and Spanish? The BA Modern Languages course at Soton really allows for variety! That sounds amazing! How did you decide on that course/university? Was it because of the flexibility or the fact that it allowed you to fulfill your linguistic nerdishness to the max?
I'm just in first year at the University of Edinburgh! My degree is French and Spanish but at Edinburgh in the first two years you take 3 subjects equally, and I've chosen to do Japanese! Honestly, it's so, so good! I absolutely love it for it's so different yet interesting. I don't know how to describe it, really. All I know is that I love the language, the culture; in other words, I love Japan and Japanese well and truly! I did French and Spanish at high school and I decided to take them up to university!
By the way, my name is Rahat. Enchanté ou bien encontrado de conocerte, Jonny.
EDIT: I realise I spelled your name wrong; I must be going blind!

Hi there
I saw you on a few of the threads and I've been meaning to send you a message. I noticed that you studied French and Spanish How was it? What did your course at Soton mostly consist of? What are you doing now?
Sorry to seem a little stalker-ish, but I saw this a while ago on your signature:
Adoro los idiomas. Mucho. Y si entiendes esto pues puede que te adore a tà también
At that time I hadn't started university and from what I could understand I thought that it was very cool and quirky I finally learned about this particular use of 'a' a few months ago and immediately I thought about this! I've just been meaning to tell you (I don't know why). I really liked your message though - it was very cool.

What's an elective? Never heard of that before! I'll definitely look into Southampton as it seems like it'll be a good bet

Cheers for the reply! The only problem I have is I don't have a GCSE or A-level of any language. Do you know if its possible to still enter, and possibly take an exam or attend an interview so they know I'm not completely blank when it comes to languages? I've emailed a few uni's but so far they haven't contacted me back so within the next week I'll be forced to ring up there language department!

Hi Jonny, just wondering if you could help me out real quick.
I read one of your posts saying you studied Portuguese at uni, and im really wanting to do that. Can you tell me how you got onto it? Did you study Portuguese at GCSE level or learn from scratch at uni? What uni is this at?
I'm learning Portuguese on my own at the moment and I know enough to have a meet and greet conversation, months/seasons, counting to 100+, family, colours, body parts, the house, household items, adjectives, pronouns and gender and a little more, so I'm not completely brain-dead when it comes to it, as i'd be entering the course with a little knowledge.
If you could get back to me on this that'd be great!
Cheers, Josh.

Hello Jonny. I saw your post in the '3 months to fluency' thread and you make references to natives mistaking you for a Mexican because your Spanish is so good. Can you tell me more about this? If I'm not mistaken, isn't the Spanish they teach during GCSE and A level 'Standard Spanish' from Spain? How did you acquire what must be an impressive Mexican accent?
Also, I tried to send this message via PM but it says your inbox is full, I think you may need to empty it if you want to receive PMs!

Hey Jonny, I saw you worked at Disneyland for the summer. I was just wondering how far in advance you have to apply? The summer 2013 jobs are already on their website! Muchas gracias

Hi Jonny, I saw your post about you working in Disneyland in Paris in the future. How did you get that job? Who do you go through to achieve that? Sounds brilliant, if you can help I can book my employment with them for next summer. Cheers Jonny.
