  1. Ahaha, all my health problems were blamed on not eating meat, as many times as I tried to explain that I was actually getting sick from her craftily sneaking meat in my food (yes, soup made with chicken stock is still meat. yes, making a meat pizza and then picking the meat off it for me is still meat)... so are you staying in Yaro next semester or going somewhere else? I'm sure it'll be okay to move to somewhere with no meals, just say you've had really bad health problems... if not, you could always try to find a flat?
It's weird, I complained about Russia the whole time I was there but now I'm back I really kind of miss it
  2. And for the love of God if they offer you accommodation with Marina on Bolshoi Oktyaberskaya, don't take it! How's Yaro otherwise?? x
  3. Eeee! All the sympathy there, food is pretty awful... although when I was in Yaro my friend who stayed with Firdaus said she was impressed that I cooked my own meals, so I thought she'd have understood... hmmm.
I'll copy and paste you the emails:

    ME: Hi,
I'll be in Yaroslavl for the Spring term and have just looked on the RLUS website and found out that the only form of accommodation in Yaroslavl is half board- is that true and, if so, is there any way I can get around it and have a breakfast only homestay (or better yet, completely self catered)? I was in Petrozavodsk last term and the Russian diet disagreed with me so much that I've been in and out of hospital since November and am still eating a very restricted diet (so I would be VERY annoying to any khozyaika trying to cook for me!). So yes, is there any way I can go self catered and if so, how much would that cost?
    Thank you,

    YULIA: Hello Carina,

Half board is the only form of accommodation in Yaroslavl. But taking in consideration your situation I suppose we can make an exception. I'll try to to find a family for you where you can cook yourself. The price will be 6500 per month.
Or maybe our khozyaika can try to cook for you following all the requirements of your diet?

Let me know what you think.

    YULIA: Dear Carina,

I've managed to find you only BED and BREAKFAST accommodation. The price will be 9500 rubles per month.

When you are on holidays or spend a weekend in Moscow/St.Petersburgh etc you'll pay just 170 rubles for the room.

It will be helpful for the khozyaika to know what kind of food you'd like to eat for breakfast.
