  1. Wait, it wasn't classed as alcoholic before? :lolwut: It was like 5%! Got me pleasantly tipsy many an afternoon. I once tried what was basically fizzy milk in Russia, and actually kind of enjoyed it.
  2. Yeah, my sister keeps all her old film magazines. I've got it scanned in now, so if you've got dropbox I could put it on there, or else email it to you. Either way just pm me your details.

:console: Russia is indeed the land of magic and opportunity. Well maybe not quite, but life there is certainly more interesting than Britain. And I especially miss all the food and drink - although I do have the means to make my own кефир, and am planning an experiment with mead to see if it tastes like хмелной мёд.

  4. Excuse me, I am new to this site and I was wondering something.
I recently posted in the "Chat" forum, and I note that it said I needed a moderator approval before my post was submitted.
Is this something to do with the forum itself? Or is it because my post contained a external hyperlink?
Sorry for acting like such a noob, i'm just new to the site, and everything is still a wee bit o' confusing. Cheers.
  5. Hi

Could you move back the "I have an offer from Cambridge but I can't afford it "thread as a stand alone thread. Students from the UK, EU and overseas need that information and if it chucked to international students a lot of students will not read it.

We believe that it is vital for applicants to be aware of the issues raised there to prevent painful disappointments later.

Who asked you to move it anyway?

Thanks in the name of a lot of people
  6. Hi! I'm so happy that I find you! I have a dream - study in Cambridge! PLEASE,help me, thanks! Look forward for your messages!
  7. My sister just showed me an article you might be interested in - it's in a film magazine called Sight and Sound (July 2011 issue) and is about Soviet science fiction. It's only a few pages long, but it mentions a few of the films you said you were writing about, and it also has cool pictures of movie posters which I quite enjoyed. If you like I could scan it in for you, it wouldn't be much trouble.

Hope you've readjusted to non-crazy life ok, back to a world where the bins aren't constantly on fire and beggars aren't controlled by the mafia.
  8. Your dissertation sounds like fun, I'm ever so slightly jealous. Thanks for the film recommendations, I haven't heard of most of them but I'm intrigued to see if any of them will be able to top a robot fighting dinosaurs in a space swamp (definitely my favourite bit). I actually watched Chelovek Amfibia the other week, it was entertaining enough but I'd been hoping it would be a bit weirder to be honest. I really liked Solaris and Stalker though, some stunning cinematography.

You know there must be something about studying Russian and doing knitting, I know of four of us on TSR alone who do it.
  9. Hey, I saw somewhere you're writing your dissertation on stuff to do with soviet sci-fi. I just finished watching an excellent film called The Planet of Storms (reminded me of early star trek, which I love, but with added soviet propaganda, which I love even more ) and was wondering if there's any other good ones you could recommend me (I use the term 'good' very loosely here, basically anything that's interesting or entertaining).

    How's the knitting going?
  10. Hi, it seems that you're doing MML at Cambridge so I just wanted to ask a couple of things... Firstly, the male/female split for MML? Also, how much of the Year Abroad is subsidised + how is the financial situation generally for it? Thanks!
