For these integration by substitution and integration by parts, would they always state in the question (Edexcel board) which one it is that we have to use.

And in general is it just two different methods for arriving at the same answer or are they meant to be used in separate circumstances?

Becuase sometimes some of these 'by parts' one look to me like they could well have been done by sub method...help???

Hello , pls can you give some guidance with regards to this particular binomial expansion question...

find first four terms of (1-3x)^3/2. By subbing a suitable value of x, find an approx for 97^3/2.

On the thread, Mr M told me that (1- 3*0.01) = 0.97

Once you have 0.97^(2/3) what should you do to get the answer you want...but i tried subbing in 0.01 into the expansion that I got ...and got 0.955339.............. now what to do next is still remaining a mystery to me ?


The answer on back of book is 955.3..............

i am scared to ask 'Mr M ' and Ten of them for much more help..they will get angry...
