I think that politely declining is a bit passive considering I think Islam actively harms people's lives.
I'm not sure what you mean about the "story behind the verse". My copy occasionally has stars in the texts that are explained by stories at the bottom of the page in smaller print (I just assumed they were stories from the hadiths that scholars attributed to those passages). Is that what you mean?
I told you I haven't just read a page or 2, I read the whole thing and I would appreciate it if you didn't insult my intelligence by telling me I "didn't understand" it.
As for the "translations", are you insinuating that no one can be Muslim without speaking Arabic because they could never understand the words of the quran in another language? Because most of the Muslims I know don't speak Arabic, and I'm willing to bet that neither can you. You're essentially telling more than 90% of the world that they either have to rely on the words of people who say they have read it in Arabic, or never be able to be Muslim.

I was given a quran by some Somali woman. I'm guessing she hasn't been in England long because she practically shoved it down my throat. I made the mistake of giving her my phone number so she repeatedly rang me to make sure I treat it "well" by always washing my hands and feet before reading it, and never use it when I'm on my period etc.
Anyway, I've read the book several times since then every time a Muslim person insisted I did it wrong and it's practically been painful to read each time. If it's a peaceful book then you sure do have to work hard to put it into a peaceful context. It's full of threats for the wrongdoers and the polytheists (somehow they're grouped into one) and medieval gifts to those who are believers (growing of crops and entry to Eden).
Also surprisingly, the quran repeats the mistakes of the old testament by claiming that allah made people hearts "firm and strong" in their beliefs in several occasions, and then punishes or rewards them for it straight after.
In fact I am leafing through it randomly right now and the first sentence I come across in every page I turn to is about distinction between believers and (wrongdoers, unbelievers, polytheists, grouped together).

I have read the quran and several hadiths. Most of the violent verses are in the hadiths, but the quran has its fair share of unfairness to people.
Anyway, you're jumping from one thing to the other. You literally just told me not to judge people based on their actions, regardless of whether I I think the actions are wrong or not, as long as their actions are motivated by religion . I suggest you take a second look at your morals.
Here is the EXACT post that you negged. Why don't you tell me exactly what you find wrong with this post other than the fact that I attacked Islam?
Seriously, Muslims can have really good debates in any topic but when Islam comes into question then BAM... all the brain cells go down the drain.
