Ah, I see.
I managed to get a response form my option convenor, who wasn't very happy as it is pretty last-minute 
Apparently, another text book refers to it as part of the reticular formation of the medulla. Whereas a good abstract from Hornby (2001) says that it is not an isolated region - but various regions.
Alas I have arrived at a satisfactory conclusion, thanks for getting back to me on the matter

Could I please ask you to look at a thread that I made, it's regarding neural signalling in vomiting, and the distinction between the NTS and vomiting centre.
