I quite enjoyed doing the Special Relativity problem sets. Some of them are real mind-benders, but it's so satisfying when you solve them! I generally found labs either stressful or boring in first year. It depends a lot, however, on what practicals you do. You could try asking round some second years to see what labs are the easiest/most interesting. I'm a bad person to ask though as I always seemed to pick the hardest ones! But, the wave-particle duality one involving electrons is a really good one to do.
Yeah, our college bar is always a popular one! 2nd year is not too bad so far. The workload has picked up, but not too much. The main difficulty I am having now is that the topics seem a lot less clear cut than in first year. For statistical Physics, for instance, every textbook seems to say something different!
I hope you dont mind me approaching you like this...
I noticed on the 'Physics at Oxford' thread that you're studying there, its a course I'd really like to apply for this year, and i was just wondering if you could give me any guidance on what college to apply for and what sort of things they asked at interview, so that i can think about whether Oxford is really for me.
Thanks for all your help
