Yeah any experience would be great to be honest, even carers experience is better than nothing. I worked in the NHS for 2 and a half years doing admin but I also did about a week overall as work experience in a hospital and a childrens OT clinic. Just try and get as much as you can, most hospitals who have enough staffing would be fine with it, and try if possible for a community or clinic based setting (hospital OTs may know more). I didn't have an interview for my first choice luckily, but I did for some others and it was group tasks where you had to discuss the future of OT and group building tasks. Reading up on things such as reflective practice and the basics that they do may help you with this though, just show your passionate about it. Also, its a tough thing to get into so work experience shows you know what your getting into! Good luck!! Hope this helped you! Jen x

Hi, I'm interested in becoming an occupational therapist and came accross a thread you had posted. I believe you've got into uni to do your OT training? And was wondering what kind of experience is required to apply to do your training at uni, and also what are the interviews like? Would working in a nursing home a few days a month be very beneficial? or do you think I'd need to shadow an OT in hopspital a few times?
