About me

Heyy! My name is Tommy and there's a big shout-out here to all the prospective Freshers going to the University of Reading in September 2010; as Vice President (Academic Affairs) for Reading University Students' Union I am one of the five elected officers here to represent you and campaign for change during the upcoming academic year.

I graduated from Reading in July 2009 with an upper second class honours (2.1) BSc Physical Geography; I spent my three years heavily involved in sports clubs, societies, and JCR Committees before standing to be elected to the post of Vice President (Education) in February 2009. I won (yay!) and took office from July 2009-July 2010; I have since been re-elected to the post albeit with the new title of Vice President (Academic Affairs). The only downside is that it makes it harder for me to whack out a joke about a being third-year studying advanced colouring-in (Physical Geography)...

I fit into the RUSU structure as one of the five elected Sabbatical Officers who are here to make sure that you have an amazing time and enjoy yourself, as well as getting the most out of your degree at Reading. As VP (Academic Affairs), my role is to look after the academic relations between the students, the University, and the Students' Union. It's hard to cut down my role into one neat sentence but, on any academic issue relating to your studies here at Reading, I'm elected to be your champion.

We're not a scary bunch - you'll probably get sick of seeing our faces around campus and hearing from us on an almost daily basis - so come by and have a beer with us, we don't bite :-)
