Thanks for the link I've requested group entry
-
You're actually the first person I've met but if I ever find anyone else then of course!
-
I requested to join, although now I feel bad for making you create the group >_<
-
...ahhhh how do I make a group? You shouldn't leave the mechanics of the operation down to me! I'm useless :P
-
We should make a group! It'd be lovely to meet more people and also to get to know you better!
-
Ah, I'm so stupid... I posted my reply on my own profile rather than yours. Anyway, I said 'You've already met some people? and Edinburgh, how about you?'
-
Yes, that's what I meant and yeah! (if I get the grades of course ) so hi!
-
Hi! Are you studying Japanese at Newcastle this year?
-
Don't worry about the kana. You'll probably be spending two weeks sorely on kana drills before you start actual teaching (at least that's what we did!). It's also so they can fix your pronunciation. But don't get complacent haha, the more you practice kana the easier it will be (and that includes writing it!) The Japanese language part of the course is awesome and so are the teachers! Haha. Love going to Japanese (except maybe the listening lessons, but you need them really haha). The teachers are usually fun and like a laugh haha. At the moment we only have one male teacher (Yoshioka-sensei) and the rest are female. Can't say much about the course leader since the course leader (Moretti-Sensei) is leaving us for Cambridge. We were all mega upset! D: So we'll just have to wait until we start again until we know how our new course leader is. As for the pace of the course, we do 2 lessons in Minna a week and this includes a vocabulary list of about 20-25 words? Not sure which book you'll be using since we get a new course leader... But I hope it's Minna. It's all in Japanese (but has furikana so you can read the kanji) but that's the best way to go. It's a bit hard to keep up with things at first, but you'll soon get used to it. Also be prepared to be working everyday - Japanese language students have a class everyday pretty much, and to keep on top of stuff you need to practice everyday. I also recommend being serious about kanji from the start - practice writing it outside of class and keep coming back to the kanji you've already learnt.
It's amazing how much you progress through just one year. You go from これはペンです。 T 暑くなっているとき 勉強できません。でも 、勉強しなければなり せん。 Not sure if the kanji will work here, but it's worth a try!

Hey there! I was lurking through the forums and saw that you're applying for Japanese at Newcastle! I'm going to be a second year studying Linguistics with Japanese Just thought I'd pop by since I remember being utterly terrified before starting! It was awful! All the people who applied for the course that I was talking with didn't get in! So I kinda started knowing no one! haha. If you have any questions just shoot them at me and I'll try and answer them
