Hi! Ermm.. this is a little odd, but i really need some advice, and you seem like a really nice guy!
Basically, I want to know whether there is any point in me applying! I would love to go to oxford, but, as with everyone, i don't want to waste an option! I've got 92% average in my AS's (maths, chem, bio and geo), and my average in the 3 sciences was 90, which is a little low! I've got good extra cirruclar stuff (grd 8 violin), but i'm worried whether these academics will let me down. Do you mind me asking what you got/what's the average to be succesful? Also, how big are they on your interview? If you have a low comparitive bmat and academic score, can a solid interview still make you succesful?
Sorry for the bother! x

By the way I replied to this on the same day you replied but I am new to tsr and did not realise you would not be able to see this where I originally posted it!!!
THANKYOU so much!!! That has really helped clear up some doubts.....yeah my mum and I were both thinking that Oxford should probably not get put down now as it could prove to be detrimental what with the competition of places being so severe, even though so many teachers at my school think I should give it a go although I acknowledge how hard it could be to get even one offer so it is definitely something I need to reflect on......which is why I have my sights set on Imperial now if I pursue a more realistic approach to my applications...I guess I will just need to make sure I rev up properly for the BMAT and make the personal statement alright....and yeah to be honest I haven't given the style of teaching much thought though after what you said I do think it might be useful to reflect on what may suit me more......but thanks again so much and really well done!!! hi this may be slightly random no worries im not stalking you or anything i was just reading a thread about A-level results (congrats btw) and i was in a bit of a state myself and just wanted to see if i could ask u some qs....
I got my AS results yesterday. I got AAAB in the order of chem, maths, french and bio....seeing as theyre the same subjects u did, i thought u cud possibly help me understand some things since everyone seems to be saying something completely different.
I want to study medicine and at oxford or imperial college. do u think i wud have a chance of getting through to oxford provided my bmat and personal statement are good enuf? because i have a B in biology and don't know how much that would affect my application.
thanks again.

I haven't, no - could you give me the link?

haha you're making a huge assumption that I'll pass the next 3-4 years worth of exams there! But sure, if you PM me, I'll let you know - though you must keep my identity a little hushed (my TSR alias and details are somewhat to maintain anonymity so may be a little misleading )

Thanks, haha I actually couldn't believe it at the time, it's just about sunk in now! Yeah, I think I'm going to go to King's so I might see you there in a few years!

Congratulations on your offer from Oxford! What a good christmas present!

Sweet! I was gonna apply to Brasenose but got in a bit of a standoff with another premed in my year!
It's a sick college so well done. Look out for a friend of mine at Exeter doing medicine next year - called Alice. Never know, might even see you in London if you fancy clinical training in a big city!

afraid not! Got my letter on tuesday, what about you?
I'm surprisingly not too bothered though, was a tough call between Ox and UCL anyway.
-
see you at Brasenose then marc!
