  1. thank you
  2. Hi, I was on the med applicants page and saw that you received an unconditional offer from St George's. If you don't mind me asking what were your gcse, AS and A level grades? thanks
  3. Dear Praj
I have joined this forum primarily because of you. Love your advice and what you have managed to achieve. I am a gap year student who performed not as expected in the A levels - A,A,A,a. I have 8 GCSE/igcse A*'s and 2 grade A's. Everything has been done in one sitting. Last year I scored high in the BMAT but flopped the UCL interview. As an applicant with no A*'s for A levels in hand (and from a very selective school) do I have any chance at Imperial???
Will they look at the BMAT for reapplicants or do you think they will go by the 3 grade A's I have achieved. Can you please tell me what your A level grades were and your background so I can see if there is any chance of being in your position. I noticed you also got an offer from St Georges - how did you manage both? Do you have any tips how they feel about gap year students?

    Very grateful

  4. Aww- anyway I'll try not to bother you, but would it be okay if- once I've got my results and kind of know what I'm doing- to still be able to message you for advice during my gap year?

Best of luck with med school as well! x
  5. Yes, definetly showing how unpredictable- I'm really happy for you though, its so incredible that you have Imperial, I can't imagine how you must be feeling, and thanks for helping me out! So you actually had 4 interviews then!! Wow. My UKCAT is next week, I just hope that goes well, as you said admissions seems more important. I've reached the stage, where I think I'm ready now.. so I hope its goes well ofcourse

Oh, that is so reassuring, I didn't do too many resits- only 2 A2 ones, and 2 AS ones.
Is there any other advice you can give? I was wondering, how do you feel now that you've had your gap year? Are you glad that you had a gap year?

Thank you- hope I havent been bothering you too much! xx
  6. Hi,
Thank you for telling me about what you did, that's really helpful to know! Could I ask, where else you had applied? One thing I'm concerned about is whether the universities look at modular resits? I have resat a few exams, as u had applied for Imperial, did u do any module resits (whether this was AS/A2)- within the 2 years?

Yes, I really want to apply tactically- at the minute I'm not too sure what universities think about reapplicants? Will my chances still be as equal to a first time applicant, do u know?

I'm still revising for the UKCAT- which I have in a few weeks now, but I was beginning to think about my personal statement, had u started from scratch? I think, that once I have my results then I will start my personal statement tho.

Thank u for your help Praj
  7. (I thought I had replied- sorry I'm a bit new to Student Room)

  8. Thanks for replying!

I think I have quite a bit work experience I think, I've got:
Over a year volunteering at a Nursing home
Over 2 years with St John Ambulance
    3 weeks with a GP
    Week with a Psychiatrist
I'm currently volunteering at my local hospital - doing the Impressions survey
I did an academic research project on Schizophrenia..

Anyways, I'm currently 'revising the UKCAT,' the best that I can - how did you revise for?! I have the 600 book, I'm just working my way through that really. How long did you start revising for it?

Also, for GCSE I have 9 A*'s, it was my AS that let me down (my school is literally crap- our coursework results were soo bad!) and my UKCAT was 610 last year :/ I saw that you got into Imperial (major congratulations!!), I hope to try and get there, could I ask what were your academia, and what you did? Do Uni's look at ur AS grades, once you have achieved grades?
I've gone through a range of feelings, from disappointed to not getting in first time, to happy with a gap year.. I just need to nail this UKCAT! And obviously hope I have got the grades!

Thank you very much again! (And sorry for all the questions) x
  9. Hello praj1,

I was just wondering whether you could give me some advice - I've just finished my A levels, however, I am going to take a gap year. I hope to study medicine, unfortunately I was rejected this year. I've read some posts and saw how you had a gap year as well. I just wanted to know what you think I should do regarding UKCAT, BMAT, work experience and things.

Sorry to disturb you like this!
Thank you for any help, it will be most appreciated.
    Kiran :-)
