It was easier when a Lord of the Rings film was released. I just wish I could remember the cinema experiences better. 17? Brilliant, haha. I think I’m getting the hardcover version for Christmas. Interesting. I know a girl who is studying in Oxford. I’ve said it many times before, but I love that city. York sounds nice, but I don’t think I could move to Oslo. If I leave the west coast, it’ll be for the UK.
It has, but it’s not a terribly good film. Big parts of it just creeps me out. I’ve seen it twice because of school. I think The Hobbit looks really good! It’s a bit surreal, having a real Hobbit trailer. I’ve seen the trailer a lot of times, and I love the landscape shots of NZ. The cast is great! I’ve been a fan of Richard Armitage for some years, and he’s a wonderful actor. I also love Martin Freeman, perfect choice for Bilbo! Can’t wait to watch the new series of Sherlock. I also can’t wait to listen to The Hobbit soundtrack. I’ve been in love with the LotR soundtracks since I was 10. Howard Shore is great.
York is definitely on my list. Really? Sounds brilliant. They have a Viking festival as well. I actually haven’t started yet. (ex.fac and ex.phil). But I’d love to study Old English.
I've been on a few interesting trips, but most of them were just in the general area. Really? Cool. The battle of Stamford bridge is rather interesting. A huge Norwegian loss, but still.. I guess they chose him because he’s somewhat well known. But speaking nynorsk doesn’t make it sound like you’re from the past, you just sound silly. He’s in the film “Kristin Lavransdatter.”. Btw, did you like the new Hobbit trailer?
It’s going fine, thanks. I’m studying English. My uni has some sort of deal with the University of York, but I don’t know. Seems like a lovely city though. I reckon there are some interesting Viking attractions in Jorvik?
I had two history books, newer and older history. That sucks. They do focus on the Viking age, but I've always felt that modern history is given more attention. I remember I had a long presentation on Harald Hardråde and the Battle of Stamford Bridge. We also visited the Nordvegen history centre and Viking farm.
I've said it before, but it's an interesting place! The video they show feature an actor from Oslo actually speaking nynorsk,
and it's a bit silly. But still good fun.
A very interesting read, thank you! Iceland and Faroe Islands celebrate on 25th December? Well I guess it's celebrated here too, but it's a boring day. I know about the winter solstice, and for many years I just assumed the 24th had pagan roots. I don't really think a lot of people ponder why it's different here. The 25th has always been the resting day after Christmas. It's known as "first Christmas day" and I reckon some religious people go to church. But that's about it. I have more knowledge when it comes to modern Scandinavian history, even though I prefer reading older history. The history books focused a lot more on modern history. Endless amount of chapters about 1814 and Norway getting a Constitution!
Do you know why Scandinavia and Nordic countries celebrate Christmas on the 24th? I've never really found a clear answer. Is there one? I know other countries in Europe open presents on the 24th as well.
thank you. but it is apparently not anon. But I like this better than anon reps.
how is iceland? cool location.
you reped me. thanks. why?
