I dont mean to be any bother but I am applying this year for Computer Science at Oxford and for the MAT results I know those interviewed for Maths & Computer Science got 53+ in the test. But for Computer Science, alone, do you happen to know what the cut off mark was roughly??
Thank you in advance,
I'd just like to comment on your presence on The Student Room and say that I think it's a really useful tool for students.
I wonder if it would be feasible for the rest of the university to follow this initiative by having members of the faculty from each department representing Oxford courses to help advise students on the respective courses as I'm sure students would be grateful to receive word from the lion's den, so to speak.
For example, I have until the 15th to decide whether I want to apply to study PhysPhil at Oxford but I'm terrified by the "60% of each course" workload coined by the majority I question about it. I emailed the admissions tutors but, alas, they either forgot or didn't bother to answer.
I'm positive that it would be really useful to talk to an Oxford Rep about it and I'm sure others would appreciate the liaison - with the wide variety of students and backgrounds on this forum- from the University. Such an attitude would probably help lessen any perceptions of the University being elitist in the sense of only taking on public school students
I have a question about the MAT paper, due to sit in a months time.
The last section of Specimen paper, has a Computer Science Section. For "COMPUTER SCIENCE ONLY". Would applications to join honors course, Mathematics and Computer Science be required to do that question?
I think you've messaged the wrong person, I enjoyed the Open Day.
Thank you very much - do you possibly have the same statistics for the 2010 paper as it is the first paper I tried? I didn't know about the last point you mentioned; it's great that such a system has been implemented to allow the students to flourish at what they're best at.
Hi, I'm interested in both your Mathematics and your Mathematics and Computer Science degrees; do you possibly have the average scores for the Maths and Computer Science students in the past years for the MAT?
Hi, thanks for your message. At the moment Computer Graphics isn't offered to 2nd or 3rd year Computer Science and Philosophy students. The list of Philosphy options is too long to list entirely on the wiki so a selection of the most relevant ones have been displayed. You can see the full list that is offered to current students at http://www.cs.ox.ac.uk/teaching/csp/PartA/ (although note that this page is currently under construction and so doesn't look great!)
I hope that helps, let us know if you have any other questions about the degree.
Hi, I'm interested in your computer science and philosophy course. I was looking at the options for the 2nd and 3rd years of the degree, and I was wondering if the options listed in the wiki are the only ones? For example computer graphics isn't listed as an option, but it is a computer science paper - would it be possible to study that? Likewise for the philosophy options which aren't listed in the wiki entry. Thanks.
