  1. Hey I achieved AAAB at AS, dropped one of the A subjects but have still been predicted AAA. The uni said they offered ABB but i got an offer of AAB. On the open day the admission guy for Pharmacology said the whole life science department will still consider you if youre predicted BBB.So dont worry.
  2. http://www.amazon.co.uk/s/ref=nb_sb_...er%2Caps%2C153 <<< you can choose from these books for help with the PS.

Whichever ones you get, a typically good structure will be (by paragraph) 1. Why you love your subject 2. What you've done to show your passion for it 3. Other things you're interested in 4. not so much a paragraph, but try and end with a great quote that echoes on a little- I said that I want to be an historian and that I could do it after being ill and turning things around, quoting Alexander the Great: 'nothing is impossible to he who will try' (feel free to use that one if you like lol).

So yeah a quote to begin and end with can be good it shows you're dealing with serious academics, I wasn't the first to do this so go ahead with that! Also don't be afraid to try sites like brainyquote etc.- you don't have to have personally read an entire book of work to appreciate an amazing quote.

I'm going to be studying History at KCL from this September- it was my 2nd choice after Cambridge and regularly ranks in the top 10 and occasionally top 5 for the subject. Good luck with it all and if you have any more questions just let me know. All best.
  3. Hey there, apologies for the slightly delayed response- I've been a bit busy over the last few days. In terms of a personal statement really it's the best opportunity you'll get to differentiate your self from others. Even the reference is difficult to stand out with given how positive they all are! What made my friend's PS so good was that he did make him self stand out. Arguably the two most important things with an application are passion and ability: show how your passion is truly unique and special to you. He said that he was fascinated by neuroscience because something he can hold inside his hand (a brain) is more complicated than all the surrounding material on the planet. Equally for my PS I quoted an historian who captured why I love History: 'History is a kind of introduction to more interesting people than we can possibly meet in our restricted lives, let us not neglect the opportunity.' Once you've established that then show how you've gone the extra mile and how you're original (more an arts and humanities trait I suppose) or curious/inquisitive perhaps with Science subjects (not my strong point! haha). If you want me to be more specific let me know there are a couple of books out there which give good info as well- all the best. x
