So the first week there are not classes what so ever. There are loads of things going on, besides allt he freshers activities you will also get your log in details/student ID/ loads of talks and information how everythng works, you will get help with chosing the right modules and all that stuff (obviously there are loads of parties going on as well in the forum and all over the place)
Then in the second week at like the beginning of October you will have your first real lecture week BUT most of these are only like introductory classes (some will want you to start right away others are real easy and just have a bit of an intro lecture or something - so depends on the lecturer) Then the second week you will have like have prepared yourself and done stuff I guess. I could send you like the induction timetable for the humanities department just to like give you an idea of what is going on, obviously some things will be different..
