Where I study
Barts and the London School of Medicine and Dentistry
Don't believe in it
- About me
- I was a medicine applicant for 2010 entry, but was unsuccessful. My UKCAT for 2010 was 687.5 (mean).
I applied to:
Bristol University: Rejected without interview
Cardiff University: Rejected without interview
University of Leeds: Rejected without interview
University of Oxford (Balliol and Keble Colleges): Rejected after interview
I took a gap year, and worked as a HCA (Healthcare Assistant) in a nursing home for several months, alongside gaining work experience through GP placements and charity work.
In conjunction with this, I applied to medical school for 2011 entry (with a UKCAT mean of 700), applying to:
Barts and the London School of Medicine and Dentistry: Offer after interview
Brighton and Sussex Medical School: Rejection without interview
Keele University: Offer after interview
University of Manchester: Offer after interview
University of Manchester (Biochemistry): Offer after interview
I accepted Barts and the London as my firm and, after saving up enough money, I went travelling for a few months before starting university.
Feel free to ask me anything about my application, or about the unis I applied to (weirdly I still remember a lot about the admissions processes of each).

Love politics - I'm a card carrying member of the Lib Dems (cue people googling my posts and negging me for this bit ).
Love medically related things - particularly interested in stem cell research right now (therapeutic uses for embryonic stem cells to be exact).
Like helping people - cliché I know, but it's true. Helping people with medical admissions stuff is something I like doing too. I remember how hard it was for me, so helping others to avoid my mistakes gives me a fair amount of satisfaction.
Like reading - a lot. If you know of a good book, PM the title to me. I'm slowly building up a bucket list of books which I intend to plow though over the next few years.
Like drinking - especially ales and whiskey (yes I'm an old man already at 19, I know, I don't care ).
Like life - because, life is good.
Oh, and poetry is also cool. Here's some poetry:
With beat of systole and of diastole
One grand great life throbs through earth's giant heart,
And mighty waves of single Being roll
From nerveless germ to man, for we are part
Of every rock and bird and beast and hill,
One with the things that prey on us, and one with what we kill.
