  1. Hi just saw that you were reapplying to oxford, thought i'd wish you luck and say congratulations with your a level results and enjoy your gap year. I was just wondering what your plans are because I might be in the same boat, however I'm reapplying because I totally regret my original choice of subject.

I haven't stalked you by the way, I saw your name in the new stalking page and I remember you playing a part in the application thread from last year, which definitely feel like a lifetime ago.

Would be nice to hear your plans and good luck.

  3. Oh, poo, I forgot to attach the notes - my bad. And looking at the message format, maybe I actually can't attach anything at all. Wonderful. My email is callum_david_matthews@hotmail.co .uk, if you'd be able to send anything there.
  4. Hey. I've just read through your essay on religion being central to Gothic texts, and it was really fantastic - I especially liked how you used the word seedy to describe 'The Monk', ahah.

This is a huge ask, and it's fine if you say no (or don't get a chance to read this before the exam is over), but would it be at all possible for you to send me some of your notes and essays on The Bloody Chamber and The Pardoner's Tale? Once again I'm really sorry for messaging you about this so close to the exam, but between sociology, philosophy, and a gum infection that's lasted more than a week my revision for English has stagnated a tiny bit. I've attached an (average) essay on the 'oold man' in The Pardoner's Tale, as well as some stuff I've written on The Tiger's Bride, but they're literally the extent of my notes for those two texts.

ANYWAY. Sorry for messaging so close to the exam, but anything you can send me may actually save my life.

    Oh, good luck for tomorrow!
  5. not really any much more than that to be honest, but I suppose you always have to be conscious that a lot of the time Tacitus is projecting his own prejudices onto Nero and Agrippina and that influences their portrayal, and how Tacitus' own motives and concerns come into his historical writing :beard:
  6. mmm I only have them as a hard copy :/ you can download Caesar's Civil War here though, which may be of use to you (divide into sections + translate) :beard: http://www.textkit.com/latin_grammar.php
  7. :beard: interesting, very interesting. I shall still prepare anything, just to be on the safe side. how are you feeling about Caesar?
  8. Yes I did take Tacitus  7 or 8 you say? :holmes: why?
  9. Yeah, the Catullus questions were lovely :yep: I thought the Ovid was alright :ashamed2: But tbf it was harder than I expected it to be and found myself having to infer meaning of words a lot:beard: (rather than knowing them off, which always leaves you feeling better about the translation cause you know it's right ). But we shall see. I imagine the grade boundaries will be fairly low in that paper anyway to compensate :beard:
  10. Ahh sorry I didn't see this before now. How'd it go?
