    I'm so sorry I forgot to reply to this!
    Ummm, I wouldn't really say we're competitive right now, we just all want to do well. I imagine that when it gets to the third year and we're all applying for placements, it will be competitive then because more people will be applying for the same position.
    As for the workload, I think it's alright. I generally do about an hour each night, but when I get tutorial work, I spend around 3 hours on it. Also, lab reports can take up to an hour to do. But generally, there is not a tremendous amount of work that needs to be done outside of lectures really.
