WELCOME TO THE LINCOLN UNIVERSITY SNOW SPORTS TEAM 2012/13.

LUSST has been running for the better part of a decade, and will celebrate its 10th Anniversairy in 2013. The team has grown rapidly over the last 3 years, and last year became the biggest team within the university with over 180 fully fledged members.

LUSST is packed with skiers and snowboarders eager to go play in the snow.. we hold weekly socials, bi-weekly trips to Xscape Castleford, monthly freestyle nights, and have a NEW YEARS ski trip to a big mountain resort (location tbc). Last year, 80 of us headed out to Tignes in the French Alps over NYE, and last year was also the first year that we were able to also run an Easter ski trip, where we all headed out to the French resort of Alpe D'Huez.

★★★ SOCIALS 12/13 ★★★

We consider ourselves to be one of the friendlier and more social teams at the uni, being one of the few teams that hosts socials every week without fail. We usually go out every Monday (may change this year) night with the whole team, first meeting up in a bar with our own VIP area, before moving on to one of Lincoln’s nightclubs for even more sweet deals. You’ll never forget a night out with LUSST, (unless you drink too much).
For our first official social of the 12/13 year, we’ll be having a meet and greet early on, probably straight after freshers week, so if you aren’t sure about joining, apologise to your liver and come along to get to know everyone and find out a bit more about the team.


★★★ XSCAPE 12/13 ★★★

No previous experience is required, it doesn't matter if you've never skied or snowboarded before, heck it doesn't even matter if you've never seen snow before! You can still join the team and start from scratch with some lessons at Xscape. As long as you can understand that sliding down a snowy hill is fun then you’re pretty much sorted, and if you start learning tricks, well, you’re in for a hell of a rush

However, for those of you with a few years under your salopettes, get your butt on the coach to one of our bi-weekly Xscape trips as you could well be the new blood we need in the freestyle and/or slalom teams. After all, graduation means that every year we lose some of our best.

Every other Wednesday we head up north to Castleford’s 200m indoor snow slope, where you can learn to ski or snowboard, or simply come along for a recreational session.

Pricing (SUBJECT TO CHANGE FOR 2012/13 SEASON):

This is still to be confirmed for the 2012/13 seasons, but last years prices were as follows:

3 hour recreational pass - £20
3 hour fast track lessons - £50 (covers 2 levels - need to complete 4 levels to be fully competent on the slope)
1.5 hour single lesson - £25 (covers 1 level - need to complete 4 levels to be fully competent on the slope)

Equipment hire is included in the cost. It is, however, recommended that you purchase your own salopettes and snow gloves (but we'll pay for clothing hire if you are doing lessons).

★★★ ANNUAL TRIPS 12/13 ★★★

Every year, LUSST organises an amazing week long trip to somewhere in the alps. This year we'll be heading out to ski resort (location tbc) with Off The Piste (OTP) who take tens of thousands of students to resorts all over the alps every year. We’ll be setting off from Lincoln on 29th December, arriving on the afternoon of 30th, and returning to Lincoln on the 6th January.

LUSST is infamous for snapping up the ‘Event of the Year’ award at the sports and societies awards.

This year's holiday is definitely not to be missed.

★★★ HOW DO I JOIN? - 12/13 ★★★

As we have so many members, we’re happy to say that we have one of the lowest joining fees of any team in the entire university. £40 covers your insurance (for Xscape), coach costs, and makes you part of LUSST for the full academic year (September - June). It’s highly likely however, that you’ll make that money back through the insane discounts we get in the bars and clubs around Lincoln. We recommend you come along to our stall at the Sports & Societies fayre on 19th September and get your name and email down, and you can officially join by paying the £40 membership fee in the SOAP office (opposite library).
