How odd, I didn't know you had to add me to make a wall post
But yes, I don't think art should be measured by some scale of how 'pure' it is. Art is what it represents to the beholder so something written on a bathroom wall is no more inherently meaningful than art conceived out of a desire to sustain oneself financially.

Well hello there again.

Consternation at the so called 'purity' of art is contrary to the spirit of art itself. Arbitrarily slapping on a 'purity-level' based on the nature of the artistic conception is both shallow and pretentious.
Just my two cents

Hello there fellow TSRian, how's life been treating you lately?

Haha, now that's a really sucky deal.. Abysmal sadness on the one end and only 'mild contentment' on the other. I think probably it's just easier to pretend to be sad rather than to be happy as well - probably it just takes less effort to try to imagine being depressed than to feel bubbling over with exuberance.
I say that writing a happy poem is harder, of course I haven't actually ever tried it.. I will think of a subject.

Ah, that sounds rather good fun - except the drama bit of course. It sounds like we might cross over courses a little bit then, ours is a 3 way split between the English, history and archaeology departments but we will be spending most of our time with you lot, I think. We spend a third of second year in Norway, hopefully digging up old Vikings and really getting to grips with what remains of Viking culture. Quite a lot of history which is good, but we're also doing a lot of the linguistic stuff - at least I hope we are. Viking literature is absolutely where it's at!

Haha! Yes, I think we are AQA too. Had to learn so much for the exam this year, the religion bashing bit should go ok I think! Yeah, what sort of stuff is your course covering?

He'd probably love it if he got the chance. That's a good point about writing for fun.. I did a computing course at university because I liked to code, but then when they make you code to deadlines and on projects you're not interested in it definitely sucks the fun!
I just read your DA entry, it is weird why writing sad is easier than writing happy! I don't know if that's how you find it, but it's always been like that for me. Maybe sad subjects have the better words?

Yeah you're right about the routine, I tried to get into the habit of doing it after I got home from work. The only writing that really stuck though was keeping a diary/journal, and writing short reviews after finishing a book. My friend started writing around the same time I did and now he has publishers following him on Twitter, lol, though I think he has a talent for it.
Does writing tie into your course or what you want to do?
